Now as I have been fielding some questions about who is eligible to register and attend I wanted to make it clear to all those potentially looking to join. To keep things simple, the mechanics are simple.

𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:

𝐐: Can I apply to represent the Philippines as an individual at the APTRC?
𝐀: Absolutely. As long as you rank in the top 30 runners (based on the ITRA Performance Index General on 15th July 2024).

𝐐: Do I need to be a member of a trail running association to represent the Philippines at the APTRC race?
𝐀: Definitely not. There is also an INDIVIDUAL application form available here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd7cTlAUA-BePdIMcZK6zrM_dWWtxBMKkIWt7A9hpC_4dvoGg/viewform

𝐐: How to I register for the APTRC race and represent the Philippines?
𝐀: Fill up the PRELIMINARY APPLICATION for INDIVIDUAL form (link in the above question) on or before 15th July 2024. After receiving preliminary applications, ITRA will make final selections based on the applications received and based on the ITRA Performance Index as of 15th July 2024. Confirmation letters will be sent to individual athletes by 31st July 2024. After receiving the confirmation letter, final registration should be made with a week and before 7th August 2024.

𝐐: Do I need to attend the South East Asian Trail Running Championship (SEATRC) in order to meet the qualification criteria for the APTRC?
𝐀: No. Selection for the race will be based on two criteria only.
1. You made a PRELIMINARY APPLICATION for INDIVIDUAL by 15th July 2024.
2. You are in the top 30 athletes within the Philippines based on the ITRA Performance Index General on 15th July 2024.

I have had a look at the ITRA Performance Indexes for the Male and Female Philippine athletes and there appears to be a lot of duplicate profiles for quite a number of athletes. I would encourage all athletes in this situation to follow the process to "merge" their duplicate profiles. This will possibly (not necessarily) improve your ITRA Performance Index if you have race results of a high standard spread across multiple ITRA profiles.

See the attached analysis for further information. Share this with your friends, if they happen to be in the top 30 athletes as it would be good to send the strongest team possible to the APTRC.

Back in 2015, the Philippines had a print (and later online) version Running Magazine, aptly titled Frontrunner Magazine Philippines.

I was lucky enough to be a guest writer for this magazine and recently came across this article "MIND YOUR FOOTING" which I think is as relevant now as it was almost a decade ago.
