"IT MIGHT TARNISH THE IMAGE OF THE ENTIRE MEDIA"

Ikinalulungkot ni dating Kapisan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Aklan Chapter President at ngayo'y Malay SB Member Alan Palma ang kontrobersiyang umaalingawngaw ngayon sa industriya ng media sa Aklan.

Ito ay matapos ideklarang persona non-grata sa buong Aklan media ang brodkaster na si Carlo Asturias dahil sa kanyang mga samo't-saring panloloko at pang-i-iscam na kinakaharap ngayon.

Ayon kay Palma, nakakalungkot na dahil sa nangyaring ito ay mababahiran ng negatibong impresyon ang media at maaaring magbago ang tingin ng tao sa mga media.

Idineklarang person non-grata ng Aklan Media Integrated Alliance (AMIA) ang pinatalsik na broadcaster na si Carlo Asturias.

Ito ay dahil sa samo't-saring panloloko at pang-i-iscam na kinakaharap niya ngayon.

Ayon sa AMIA hindi nila gusto ang paglapastangan at paggamit ni Asturias sa kanyang pagiging mediaman upang makapanloko lalo pa at karamihan ng kanyang mga nabibiktima ay mga taong dumudulog sa media upang magpatulong sa kanilang kinakaharap na mga suliranin.

Members of the Aklan Media belonging to the Aklan Media Integrated Alliance declared dismissed broadcaster Carlo Asturias "persona non-grata" of Aklan Media due to his notoriety of using his media profession to take advantage of the p through his various fraudulent activities.

Following is the copy of the Resolution titled "Resolution declaring Mr. Carlo Asturias as persona non-grata in the Aklan Media":

RESOLUTION NO. 03, SERIES OF 2022

RESOLUTION DECLARING MR. CARLO ASTURIAS AS PERSONA NON-GRATA N THE AKLAN MEDIA

WHEREAS, as we express our deep concern over the notoriety of Mr. Carlo Asturias who is using his being a mediaman to take advantage of the people through his various fraudulent activities;

WHEREAS, we are unanimous in our observation that the notoriety of Mr. Carlo Asturias, which has long been a problem in the Aklan media industry and his journalistic caprices, is already incorrigible;

WHEREAS, despite the efforts of his media colleagues for him to make amends, Mr. Carlo Asturias went on with his unacceptable and journalistic notoriety, which continues to nourish a system of bias, a situation that is damaging the Aklan media industry;

WHEREAS, we believe that it is a corollary duty of Aklan Media to police its ranks of misfits and scalawags or those who use the enormous power of the press to deceive and swindle people for his own personal gain;

WHEREAS, as we aim to cleanse our ranks and impose a system of self-regulation, set up codes and guidelines on our own based on the ethical standards that a journalists has to possess;

WHEREAS, as we step up the fight against AC-DC or Attack-Collect-Defend-Collect kind of journalism or a kind of journalism where a journalist attacks a person in order to collect money from that person’s rival or enemy. In the process, the same journalist then defends the person originally attacked, for a fee; and

WHEREAS, it is our belief that Mr. Carlo Asturias’ temerity of spewing biased opinion and his personal advocacy to malign, insult and destroy the image and goodwill of the Aklanons, the mainstream media organization of Aklan should improve the enforcement of discipline and self-regulation at industry level;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that we, members of the Aklan Media Integrated Alliance, stand in solidarity with our colleagues in condemning this notoriety of Mr. Carlo Asturias and thereby declare that he is no longer welcome to be a part of the media industry in the province of Aklan as he is slowly destroying the honor, reputation, and respectability of mass media practitioners in this part of the country; and

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED FURTHER that copies of this Resolution be furnished to all media entities in the province of Aklan.

AT THE MOMENT:

Repacking of relief goods is ongoing at the Todo Media Broadcast Center headed by Operations Manager Katodong Lilia Dela Cruz and Chief of Reporters Katodong Jujet Reyes.

Initiated by Radyo Todo, the Todo Bulig Program for the victims of the massive flooding in Brgy. Loctuga will take place tomorrow morning in partnership with the Aklan Provincial Police Office, Philippine Eagles Club (Aklan Golden Salakot), Aklan Media Integrated Alliance, Journey Church, 1st Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the Local Government of Libacao.

Spawned by Typhoon Paeng, the flooding in Libacao left 4 dead, 10 totally damaged houses and a number of partially damaged ones, and affected around 60 families in the area.

AMIA CALLS ON AKLAN LEGISLATORS TO COMMIT TO END ATTACKS VS JOURNALISTS

KALIBO, Aklan--Expressing its concern on the prevailing impunity for attacks and violence against members of the Fourth Estate, the Aklan Media Integrated Alliance (AMIA) has called on Aklan legislators to support to the commitment to end all attacks and violence against journalists.

In a resolution passed on Thursday, the Aklan media group urged both the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan and the Sangguniang Bayan of Kalibo to be vocal in condemning the assassination of broadcast journalist Percival “Lapid” Mabasa and support in the strategies to help address the growing crisis involving journalists and media workers.

Mabasa, a fiery radio commentator and whose family has deep roots in Aklan although born and raised in Manila, was gunned down on Oct. 3 by motorcycle-riding assailants in Las Piñas. He is the second journalists to be killed under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and among the 197 Filipino journalists killed since 1986.

The resolution had asked both the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan and the Sangguniang Bayan of Kalibo to “stand in solidarity with journalists around the world in condemning this act and to demonstrate its political will needed in urging the authorities to investigate and prosecute this crime with the full force of the law.”

“It’s now hightime for our legislators to champion a resolution and be vocal in condemning this issue at the national level and call for an end to the impunity for crimes against journalists as it is one of the pressing issues to guarantee freedom of expression and access to information for all citizens,” it said.

“If violence and attacks against journalists are not properly investigated, this impunity will only embolden the perpetrators of the crimes involving journalists and at the same time will create a chilling effect on society, including journalists themselves. On the other hand, AMIA believes that justice systems that vigorously investigate all threats of violence against journalists will send a powerful message that our society will not tolerate attacks against the right to freedom of expression for all,” the statement further read.

In what appeared to be a shocking development on the killing of broadcast journalist Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa, the newly-organized Aklan Media Integrated Alliance (AMIA) urged the Department of Justice for a deeper investigation to bring the perpetrators and mastermind to justice.

FOLLOWING is the letter of AMIA to Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla relative to the mysterious death of the alleged middleman in the gruesome murder of our colleague, Percy Lapid.

Dear Secretary REMULLA:

We would like to begin by sending our heartfelt condolences to the families of our colleague in the media, Mr. Percy Lapid, whose recent death has again shocked the media fraternity to the core, clearly showing how dangerous the journalism profession in the country today.

It is even more heartbreaking for us, members of the Aklan media, considering the fact that Mr. Lapid, Percival Carag Mabasa in real life, has deep roots in Aklan, so in a sense he is one of our own who earned acclaim as a hard-hitting broadcaster known all over the country. His remarkable footprint as a critic whose voice inspired many people to stand up for what is right even at the cost of his life, making him a giant of his craft and the causes he was fighting for.

Having said this, we are terrified by the recent development wherein the only person who served as “middleman” in the devious transaction that led to the death of our colleague has been declared dead under mysterious cause right inside the National Bilibid Prison where he was in detention.

We are alarmed that this may led to another “useless death” or Percy Lapid’s death could become another case that faces a blankwall or be included in the long list of “unsolved crimes” involving journalists in the country.

It is imperative therefore that authorities under your stewardship must use its considerable force and influence to get to the bottom of this case and seek ways to identify the person or persons behind the killing of Percy Lapid. This matter, indeed, has to be a subject of a much fuller investigation to unmask the mastermind behind this gruesome murder.

The media has been at the forefront of all our epochal struggles. Even at a hostile climate, many journalists of this nation have taken and are taking into the frontlines at great risk to their personal well-being and safety to advocate for truth, fairness, justice, and democracy. And many, among them, are paying the price including the ultimate price of death just like what happened to our colleague, Percy Lapid.

May we not forget that we have a democracy today, which we owe largely because of the sacrifices of the media, especially those that have departed. These are sacrifices that should never be forgotten. And these are the sacrifices that should force the authorities to deepen its investigation and motivate them further to leave no stone unturned until all the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Please make us believe there is justice in this country.
