𝗚𝗜𝗚- 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱: 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗨𝗽 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘇, 𝗜𝗗𝗖 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝘆 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀

The highly anticipated GIG- God is Good: Rise Up, organized by the West Crew in collaboration with the Iloilo City Government and co-presented by Ms. Raisa Treñas, lit up the West Visayas State University Cultural Center with electrifying street dance performances on August 24.

Dancers from across the region competed in three categories: Inter-District, Inter-School Based, and Crew Overload, showcasing Iloilo's finest dance talent.

In the Inter-District category, Fresh Hoodz claimed the championship title with a dynamic, well-synchronized routine that left both judges and audience in awe. Crept Nusty Crew Iloilo secured the first runner-up spot, impressing with their creativity and energy, while F.TTS Dance Troupe rounded out the top three, dancing their way to the second runner-up position.

IDC Aligmata emerged as the champion in the Inter-School Based category, delivering a powerful performance that highlighted both technical skill and artistic expression. GSU Allstar earned the first runner-up position with a high-energy routine that seamlessly integrated diverse dance elements, showcasing their versatility and creativity. USADA secured the second runner-up spot with an equally energetic performance.

In the highly competitive Crew Overload category, Thy Kingdom reigned supreme, winning the championship title with a captivating routine that combined intricate choreography with seamless teamwork. A-Town claimed the first runner-up position, demonstrating their versatility and passion, while StreetKingz Fam impressed the crowd and judges alike with their moves and stage presence, earning a second runner-up finish.

The event was a celebration of talent, culture, and community spirit, with dancers and supporters from across the region coming together to "Rise Up" and demonstrate the power of streetdance as a form of expression and unity.

West Visayas State University’s College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts, and Recreation (WVSU-COP) students made history on August 21, 2024, by being declared the first-ever Grand Champion of the Saot Ilonggo competition. The students further celebrated their victory by performing their award-winning folk dance at the 87th Iloilo Charter Day Mayor's Dinner, held at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, August 23.

The Mayor's Dinner was one of the highlights of the Charter Day festivities, featuring the Ten Outstanding Ilonggos Award (TOIIC) ceremony. After the awards presentation, the WVSU-COP students were invited to perform "Sala Ti Alat," a folkdance originating from Camiling, Cabangan, Zambales. This dance, rich in cultural significance, symbolizes the joy of a prosperous fishing catch and embodies the essence of communal festivity. The performers rhythmically moved in harmony with a symbolic fish container, capturing the spirit of celebration.

They once again showcased their artistic excellence, embodying the essence of traditional stories and fostering unity through cultural celebrations.

SPORTS UPDATE: 𝗖𝗢𝗣 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗸𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼 𝗝𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗖 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀

Demonstrating exceptional skill and determination, the College of Physical Education, Culture, Arts, and Recreation (PESCAR) Taekwondo jins representing West Visayas State University (WVSU) La Paz Air Force, brought home a series of medals from the Taekwondo Kyurogi event at the 2024 National Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Games, held at City College of Tagaytay, Tagaytay City, August 22.

April Joy Gabayoyo, a third-year student in the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED), delivered a remarkable performance in the Welter Heavyweight category. Gabayoyo’s agility and precision in executing powerful strikes earned her a hard-fought silver.

Meanwhile, in the Bantamweight category, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences-Fitness and Sports Coaching (BSESS-FC) student, Nicole Aspera, displayed her technical prowess and quick footwork. Her efforts culminated in a well-deserved bronze medal, contributing to the success of the team.

Another bronze medal was secured by Jodi Anne Valenzuela, a third-year Bachelor of Performing Arts—Dance (BPEA) student, who competed in the Featherweight category. Valenzuela’s strong defensive strategy and explosive attacks showcased her athletic ability and secured her place on the podium.

These victories bring immense pride to both the college and the university, celebrating the individual accomplishments of these cadets and student-athletes. The resilience and skill of these PESCARian Jins have highlighted the strength and excellence of the College of PESCAR, making them standout performers at the 2024 National ROTC Games.

West Visayas State University’s College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts, and Recreation (WVSU-COP) has once again demonstrated its excellence, securing the title of the first-ever Champion of the Saot Ilonggo: Iloilo Traditional Folkdance Festival with two special awards, held at the West Visayas State University Cultural Center, August 21.

In a spirited competition against nine other groups, PESCAR students captivated the audience with their exceptional talent and dedication to folkdance. Their interpretation of “Sala Ti Alat,” a dance that symbolizes the joy and celebration following a successful fishing expedition. Characterized by dynamic twirls, graceful movements, and vibrant energy, the performance resonated deeply with the festival's theme, earning the group not only the championship title but also two special awards: Best in Staging and Best in Performance.

Professor Liberty Porras, the trainer and choreographer, played a pivotal role in guiding the students to victory, with additional support from coaches Professor Jon Kristoffer Deguma and Ms. Febrah Mae Tacorda. Their collective expertise and dedication were evident in the polished and immersive performance.

This victory adds to WVSU-COP's impressive track record, following their previous wins at both the RASUC-VI and PASUC National Culture and Arts Festivals.

Peter Mines Molina, a fourth-year Bachelor of Physical Education student from the College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts, and Recreation (PESCAR) at West Visayas State University (WVSU), achieved a remarkable feat by winning the bronze medal in the 200-meter men’s final of the athletic events at the National Championships for the 2024 Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Games, held at Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite, on August 20.

Molina, representing the WVSU-La Paz Air Force, showcased his speed and determination in a highly competitive field. Competing against some of the nation's top ROTC cadets and student-athletes, Molina’s third-place finish not only earned him a spot on the podium but also brought pride to his college and university.

His achievement highlights the growing strength of WVSU's athletic program, particularly within the College of PESCAR, which continues to produce top-tier athletes who excel on the national events.

The University Dance and Cultural Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Irong-Irong Dance Company and K-Code, held auditions for the academic year 2024-2025 on August 19 at the Dance Studio, Hometel Third Floor Building.

Professor Liberty R. Porras, Director of the University Dance and Cultural Affairs Office and adviser of both dance organizations, along with the respective organization officers, spearheaded the audition which attracted nearly 120 auditionees eager to join the dance groups.

The Irong-Irong Dance Company, renowned for its dedication to developing and enhancing students' creative talents, showcased a variety of dance styles during the auditions. Auditionees demonstrated their skills in Folkdance, Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Modern Standard (Slow Waltz), and Latin-American dances such as Samba and Cha-cha-cha.

Conversely, K-Code, a newly established group focusing on K-pop, aimed to provide a platform for students to display their talents, learn from each other, and spread the joy of K-pop dance covers. The group’s auditions featured energetic and dynamic choreography, with auditionees performing to popular K-pop hits and showcasing high energy and enthusiasm in their attempts to join this group.

The auditions for the Irong-Irong Dance Company were judged by a distinguished panel, including Professor Liberty R. Porras, Dr. Jemuel B. Garcia Jr., Professor Ryan L. Puljanan, Professor Noel P. Mondejar, Ms. Febrah Mae Tacorda, and Mr. Russel John Jalbuena. For K-Code, the auditions were assessed by Erbert Pasco and John Paul Bayasca, both Bachelor of Performing Arts-Dance students with significant experience in K-pop choreography.

The audition concluded with a sense of excitement and anticipation as the judges deliberated over selecting the most promising dancers. It not only showcased the impressive talent within the university but also highlighted the diverse opportunities available for students passionate about dance.

Cadets and student-athletes from the College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts, and Recreation (PESCAR) of West Visayas State University (WVSU) representing the WVSU-La Paz Air Force are set to showcase their athletic prowess at the National Championships for the 2024 Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Games with competitions held at various venues throughout Cavite Province and Tagaytay City, starting August 18-23, 2024.

The College of PESCAR delegation, consisting of highly skilled and dedicated athletes, is set to compete in various disciplines. Among them, John Patrick Caquilgan (BPED 4-A) will participate in the Men's Long Jump and the 4x100m Relay, while Peter Molina (BPED 4-A) will contest the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m Relay events. The team also features skilled competitors in Taekwondo, with Nicole Lyndly Aspera (BSESS-FC 4-A), April Joy Gabayoyo (BPED 3-A), and Jodi Anne Valenzuela (BPEA 3-A) ready to take on the challenge. Furthermore, Marian Manguhom (BPED 2-A) will compete in the Girls' Shotput, and Kenneth Sobredilla (BSESS-FC 2-A) will participate in both the Men's Shotput and the 4x100m Relay.

These student-athletes are part of a larger contingent representing the Armed Forces of the Philippines, with participants from across the nation affiliated with the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The preparation and guidance provided by the College of PESCAR faculty have been instrumental in the athletes' readiness. Coaches and assistant coaches, including Dr. Christopher Jaspe, Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, Professor Rocky Penuela, and Ms. Ma. April Lyn Alba, have played pivotal roles in shaping the team's performance.

The National Championships for the 2024 ROTC Games serve as a vital platform for promoting patriotism, sportsmanship, leadership, and character development among cadets and student-athletes. These games also contribute to the overall strengthening of the ROTC program.

In the first episode of #𝗗𝗬𝗡𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗸𝗮, 𝗗𝗬𝗡𝗔𝘇𝗮𝘂𝗿 with our reigning 𝗠𝘀. The College of PESCAR has proudly earned the champion title for the Best Booth Award at this year’s IMBUKADA: Freshmen Orientation Orgs Fest, marking a remarkable back-to-back victory for the college-based organization, August 16.

This year, the College of PESCAR’s winning booth drew inspiration from the 2018 Filipino fantasy comedy film Fantastica, directed by Barry Gonzales, starring Vice Ganda. Echoing the magical alternate universe depicted in the film, the booth featured a captivating carnival theme inspired by Perya Wurtzbach.

The success of the booth is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the PESCAR Student Council and Student Support Group, along with the contributions of several dedicated student organizations. These include Teatro Tayo, Irong-Irong Dance Company, MahaLIKHA, Panayana Cultural Group, Himig Kanluran sa Visayas, WVSU Rondalla Ensemble, WVSU Band, Dynamics Publication, and the PESCAR Sports and Wellness Club.

The triumph at IMBUKADA underscores the College of PESCAR’s ongoing commitment to showcasing vibrant student talent and fostering a supportive and engaging campus environment. The back-to-back accolade reaffirms the college's reputation for excellence and creativity, setting a high standard for future events.

NEWS: 𝐏𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐑 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲

Clad in vibrant shades of purple, the PESCAR Freshies joined fellow first-year students from various colleges at the University Cultural Center for the much-anticipated IMBUKADA: University Freshmen Orientation, August 16.

IMBUKADA, organized by the University Student Council, is a cherished tradition that welcomes new students with a lively and engaging program. The theme for this year’s orientation, “Bida Ka, Taga-West! Ang Unang Kabanata sa Makulay na Paglalakbay,” perfectly captured the spirit of the event, reflecting the vibrant and colorful journey awaiting the freshmen.

During the orientation, the PESCAR Freshies contributed significantly to the dynamic atmosphere as they embarked on the initial phase of their academic lives. The program provided an introduction to the university's vision, mission, and core values, setting the stage for the students' future endeavors. The event also featured performances, presentations from key officials, including messages from the administration and various offices, as well as a showcase of the Type A and Type B uniforms representing each college.

Following the orientation, the excitement continued at the Orgs Fest held at the WVSU Jubilee Park. Various student organizations gathered to greet the freshmen with creatively themed booths inspired by famous Filipino movies. This year, the College of PESCAR’s college-based organizations and support groups collaborated on a standout booth inspired by the 2018 Filipino fantasy comedy film Fantastica, directed by Barry Gonzales. The booth, echoing the film’s magical alternate universe, featured a carnival theme from Perya Wurtzbach, highlighting the university’s dedication to celebrating cultural and artistic talent.

The Orgs Fest allowed Taga-West freshmen to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the university’s student organizations. The PESCAR booth, in particular, embodied the college’s role as a center of talent and cultural stewardship.

As the freshmen explored the different booths and activities, the day showcased the strong sense of community and rich cultural atmosphere at West Visayas State University. The IMBUKADA orientation and Orgs Fest combined to create a memorable beginning to the academic year, giving new students a glimpse of the lively and supportive environment awaiting them.
