Super Typhoon Pepito maintained its strength as it continues to threaten Aurora province and Northern Quezon, state weather agency PAGASA said Sunday.

In its 11 AM advisory, PAGASA said Pepito was located 120 kilometers east southeast of Baler, Aurora, packing winds of 185 kph and gusts of up to 230 kph. It is moving northwestward at 20 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 is still raised over the eastern portion of the Polillo Islands, including the municipalities of Burdeos, Patnanungan, and Jomalig. They are expected to face typhoon-force winds with speeds of 185 km/h or higher in the next 12 hours, posing extreme threat to life and property.

According to PAGASA, there is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge with peak surge heights exceeding 3.0 m in the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Ilocos Region (western coast), Isabela, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Marinduque, and Bicol Region.

A gale warning was also hoisted over the eastern and western seaboards of Luzon.

Super Typhoon Pepito could make landfall over Aurora this Sunday afternoon and then cross northern Central Luzon and southern Northern Luzon.

Pepito is forecast to weaken into a typhoon after its landfall and while crossing Luzon.

The cyclone will reach the West Philippine Sea on Sunday evening. It will leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday.

READ: Passi City Mayor Stephen A. Palmares has released a statement dispelling misleading campaign materials that falsely claim his support for resigned police captain Charlie Sustento Jr. in the upcoming May 2025 elections.

In his statement on Thursday, Palmares expressed disappointment over the circulating posters, which he asserted falsely depict his endorsement of Sustento.

“These materials are entirely misleading and do not reflect my official stance,” the mayor clarified. "Nor do they represent the position of Vice Mayor Elyzer C. Chavez and our administration,” he added.

Mayor Palmares reaffirmed his loyalty to the candidates of his political coalition, NP-LAKAS-PFP.

The official slate includes:

- Governor Arthur "Toto" Defensor Jr. for Governor

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul defeated former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson via unanimous decision in their highly anticipated professional bout on Saturday (Philippine time) in Arlington, Texas.

According to reports, the fight wasn’t close on the judges’ cards, with one giving Paul an 80-72 edge and the other two calling it 79-73.

With the victory, Paul improves to 11-1 in his professional career and becomes the sixth fighter to defeat the Hall of Famer in his career.

“First and foremost Mike Tyson, it’s such an honor,” Paul told Tyson after the match.

“He’s the G.O.A.T. I look up to him, I’m inspired by him, and we wouldn’t be here today without him. This man is an icon and it’s just an honor to be able to fight him,” he added.

Tyson was asked after the fight if he felt like he proved to the world that he could go the distance, despite his age.

“I didn’t prove nothing to anybody only to myself. I’m not one of those guys that looks to please the world. I’m just happy with what I can do,” Tyson said.
