𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | Tabing places second in USC councilor race

Riena Mae Tabing, an incoming fourth-year student, secured second place in the recently concluded WVSU-University Student Council Elections 2026 councilor race after garnering 1,642 votes, according to the official results released by the University Student Electoral Committee on May 12.

With her victory, Tabing became the second student from the College of Dentistry to run for and win a seat in the University Student Council (USC).

Tabing ran under LAKAS alongside USC Chairperson-elect Rian Philippe Jose and Vice Chairperson-elect—and current USC Chairperson—Shalene Margrete Joy A. Cachuela, who are set to lead the new roster of student leaders for Academic Year 2026–2027.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽. Dental emergencies shall stand no chance against these future dentists from DMD 3A, who attended a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training earlier today, May 11, at the COD Building, led by volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross.

A requirement for their Anesthesiology course, the training featured an overview and demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), preparing students to respond to emergencies such as cardiac arrest in both clinical settings and everyday life.

𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗨𝗛𝗢𝗠 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵

Project YUHOM, an oral health outreach program, successfully engaged more than 40 children on April 18, at Sitio Igang, Brgy. Igcocolo, Guimbal, Iloilo.

Led by first-year Doctor of Dental Medicine students from West Visayas State University as part of their National Service Training Program (NSTP), the initiative aimed to strengthen awareness on oral health through interactive and child-friendly learning activities.

The event featured toothbrushing demonstrations, educational skits, and games conducted after each speaker segment, keeping the children actively involved throughout the program.

According to event chairperson Irian Jyrah Tanangonan, the turnout exceeded their expectations, as they had initially expected less than 40 participants.

Distribution of oral health kits to the beneficiaries followed before the event culminated.

The event concluded with smiles from both volunteers and participants, reflecting its goal of promoting healthier and happier communities.

𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐔𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝗪𝗩𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗢𝗗 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗜 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Following the initial release of results for the WVSU Aptitude Examination (WVSU-AE), the West Visayas State University-College of Dentistry officially opened the applications for the second phase of screening for its Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program.

The application process started last April 16 and shall last until Apr. 27, 2026.

In a Facebook post, the college instructed the applicants to wait for their results to be e-mailed before forwarding it to the college's admissions e-mail address ([email protected]).

Only applicants who chose the DMD program as their "first priority" during the WVSU-AE and who qualified for the college's cut-off score shall be considered for the next level screening.
