𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐒 & 𝐁𝐁𝐌 𝐃𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐌𝐀: 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐆𝐔𝐎 𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐑𝐔𝐆 𝐒𝐌𝐔𝐆𝐆𝐋𝐄𝐑?

They celebrated too early, as Indonesia arrested Alice Guo. But they may not be prepared for this curve ball.

In exchange of Alice Guo, Indonesia demands the extradition of Gregor Haas, an Australian citizen, caught in the Philippines last May 2024. Haas is facing the death penalty in Indonesia for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of shabu from Mexico to Indonesia.

Why is this a dilemma for Risa Hontiveros? This is where the woke, to use the words of wokes, will choke.

Risa Hontiveros prides herself as an anti-death penalty girl. The poster girl of International Human Rights in the Philippines. The Philippines is a signatory to the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Risa Hontiveros is a strong advocate of the Second Optional Protocol.

In 2017, Hontiveros issued this statement against death penalty:

"It is a cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment, which has a disproportionate impact on the poor and little guarantee that innocent people would not be sentenced to death. It will also violate the country's international obligations, particularly the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights aiming to abolish death penalty."

It is known in international human rights law that it is against the Second Optional Protocol to "deport or extradite persons to a country in which they are facing criminal charges that carry the death penalty, unless credible and effective assurances against the imposition of the death penalty have been obtained" (s𝙚𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙧. 38 𝙤𝙛 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙚 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙉𝙤. 36 𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚 6 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨).

There is a reason why foreign drug smugglers want to be in the Philippines. They can challenge their extradition to countries where drug trafficking is punishable by death.

Since Haas is an Australian citizen, Australia will not allow the Philippines to deport Haas to Indonesia because Australia is an anti-death penalty country. Australia is known to be a country that uses its diplomatic capital to protect its citizens from death penalty in other countries, including its citizens accused and convicted of drug-related offences. So these idiots celebrated too soon. The Alice Guo problem has now become a complex international relations issue among the Philippines-Australia-Indonesia.

Risa Hontiveros is now faced with this dilemma: the human rights of an Australian drug smuggler or Alice Guo?

The Barangay Kapitolyo Eco-Solid Waste Management (SWM) Center, located behind the Iloilo Sports Complex Covered Gym, has emerged as a vital learning hub for environmental sustainability.

The center showcases innovative upcycling practices, transforming PET and glass bottles, old tires, and other recyclable materials into useful items. Additionally, it promotes composting of biodegradable wastes.

The center also serves as the venue for the 4Bs (Basura-Baylo-Baligya-iBangko) Day, where recovered recyclables are stored and later sold to Justin Junkshop, a key partner in the program.

The proceeds from these sales are then deposited into the Iloilo Provincial Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative, contributing to the community’s economic and environmental well-being.
