3 DEAD, 7 MISSING AFTER WAVES CAPSIZED 2 SMALL SEACRAFTS OFF BORACAY

Two motorbancas with 20 persons on board left Boracay island in Malay, Aklan on Monday morning, August 26 and headed for Caluya, island in Antique.

The seacrafts MBCA Ure Mae and an unnamed boat proved no match to the rough sea and capsized. Ten persons on board survived the wreck.

"The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) operations to locate the 7 missing passengers will continue,” a statement from the Philippine Coast Guard and the police said.

Remains of the 3 deceased victims were recovered by their family members in Carabao island (San Jose town), Romblon on Thursday, August 29.

Authorities have yet to disclose the name and other circumstances of victims in the accident..

Mga 41 ka baboy ang ginbakunahan sa Barangay Malapad na Parang, banwa sang Lobo, mga 5 ka tuig pagkaligad nga una nag-atake ang ASF sa pungsod sadtong tuig 2019.

"Katumanan ini sa pangaku sang presidente (sa iya ikatlo nga SONA) nga ipatuman gilayon ang ASF vaccination," siling ni Arnel de Mesa nga assistant secretary sa DA sang sia nagmensahe sa una nga roll-out sang 10,000 ka mga bakuna.

DENGUE CASES STILL RISING IN AKLAN; ILOILO CITY IN 'STATE OF CALAMITY'

KALIBO, AKLAN - There are a total of 1,820 reported cases of dengue in Aklan from January 1 to August 24 this year according to local radio stations here, quoting from reports of the Aklan provincial health office.

Malay town leads the most number of dengue cases with 329, followed by the capital town of Kalibo with 284 dengue cases, and Nabas town with 137 cases covering the reported period in 2024.

The report noted that almost all municipal health offices in Aklan towns have reported cases of dengue in their respective areas, prompting the provincial government to issue regular health bulletins on the 4S strategy against the disease.

Meanwhile, in ILOILO CITY the Sangguniang Panlungsod passed in session on Wednesday August 28 a Resolution declaring a State of Calamity due to the dengue outbreak in various barangays.

The Iloilo city health office has earlier reported that over 900 dengue morbidities with 4 fatalities were recorded from January 1 until August 10 this year.

Affected: ILECO 3 (Ajuy, Sara, Balasan & Estancia Substations) and CAPELCO (Timpas TR2 & Pres. Roxas Substations)

Reason: Load transfer of ILECO 3 from Concepcion to Panit-an Substation and vise versa in order to minimize outage during preventive maintenance activities at NGCP's Concepcion Substation.

Specific affected areas are determined by the Electric Cooperatives. NGCP will exert all efforts to restore power earlier or as scheduled.

COMPLETE ENGINEERING DESIGN OF PANAY - GUIMARAS BRIDGE BY END 2024: MARCOS

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (FMJ) "has instructed officials to complete the detailed engineering design (DED) of Section A (Panay Guimaras bridge) by December 2024 instead of the end - 2025," according to regional director Sanny Boy Oropel of the DPWH in a forum recently.

The DED for section A of the Panay Guimaras Negros (PGN) bridge is ongoing, said Oropel, which consists of 13 kilometers bridge and road links between Leganes town in Iloilo and in Buenavista, Guimaras.

Funding for the DED was sourced from the Government of South Korea through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan amounting to US$56.6 Million (P2.671 Billion) with the Export Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM).

With a shortened timeline for the DED completion, civil works are expected to begin any time in 2025 for section A of the PGN link bridge.

The budget for civil works in both sections A and B of the 32-kilometer PGN bridges link is estimated at US$3.7 Billion or about P189 Billion.

REWARD MONEY NOW P500K FOR HEIST AT ILOILO SUPERMART JARO

Police major Eduardo Siacon, station 9 chief of Jaro district in Iloilo City announced today, August 28 the doubling of bounty money for an informant from P250,000 to P500,000 that could lead to the arrest of suspects in the pre-dawn robbery at Iloilo Supermart Jaro branch on August 27, 2024.

Some P1.5 million in cash have been reported stolen to the police after the robbery.

Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas first offered the P250,000 reward money even as "a group of local businessmen" has put up the same amount, as reported by Aksyon Radyo Iloilo.

The police so far has not referred to any group or person of interest while speculating that the crime pattern follows that of the so-called "termite gang" where local establishments were invaded through provisional underground tunnels.

'REGISTER ANYWHERE PROGRAM' UNTIL AUGUST 31 ONLY - COMELEC

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday said the Register Anywhere Program (RAP) set up in private establishments and government offices across the country would only be until Aug. 31.

The poll body said qualified Filipinos who would like to vote in the May 2025 polls may visit the nearest RAP site regardless of where they reside.

The documents and captured data of the registrant will be transmitted by the recipient RAP team to the Office of the Election Officer of the district/city/town with jurisdiction over the applicant.

All RAP sites also accept applications of deactivated voters due to failure to vote in the previous two elections; transfer of overseas voters back to the Philippines (post to local); of residents of the city/district where the RAP sites are located; and of senior citizens and persons with disability who are new registrants or will update their records.

P2.8-MILLION BILL DEPOSIT REFUNDS RELEASED BY MORE POWER

Between May 2023 and August 2024, some 996 customers met the criteria of having consistently paid their bills on time over the past three years. Of these, 685 customers have successfully processed and received their bill deposit refunds.

Under Article 7 of the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers, distribution utilities are mandated to refund the bill deposit of customers who have paid their bills on time for three consecutive years (36 months) and have no record of service disconnection.

The bill deposit is a necessary requirement for new meter applicants prior to the installation of their meters.

MORE Power reiterates that customers who are ineligible for the refund due to late payments over the past 36 months can still receive their bill deposit with annual interest when they choose to terminate their electric service.

HOPE FOR OVER 100 UNFINISHED PROJECTS UNDER NTF-ELCAC IN ILOILO?

National securiry adviser Eduardo Año said on Thursday, August 15 he was "confident Congress would restore (next year) the Support for Barangay Development Program (SBDP) budget" under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF ELCAC).

In Iloilo the NTF ELCAC funded P720 million for 165 projects in Miagao, Igbaras, Tubungan, Leon and Alimodian in 2022. Of these, only 55 projects were completed, 105 projects were unfinished, and 5 were never started, as disclosed to HilwayNews last year by then acting provincial administrator Dennis Ventilacion.

The Iloilo provincial government has requested in early 2023 for the extension of budget application deadline for another year in order to complete the mothballed projects, but to no avail.

SBDP funded the projects used for basic infrastructure, such as farm-to-market roads, rural electrification, health stations, water and sanitation systems, school buildings, and sustainable livelihood projects in the so-called geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) of the country.

DENGUE ALERT STILL UP: 10 DEATHS, 4,595 CASES FROM JANUARY 1-AUGUST 10

The advocacy on 4S strategy and monitoring of dengue cases has so far reached target areas in Alimodian, Leon, Pavia, Sta. Barbara, Lambunao, Barotac Nuevo and Banate, the Iloilo provincial health office reported over the weekend.

So far the local government units (LGUs) of Oton, Tigbauan, Miagao and Passi City have declared a "state of calamity" due to the prevalence of dengue.

Dr. Alberto Cordero, chief of hospital at the Iloilo provincial hospital in Pototan has been reported by local radio that "28 patients have been admitted and 5 of these are new cases".

Some 30 to 40 persons per day are having themselves checked for dengue symptoms, it was also reported.

AS AFRICAN SWINE FEVER LINGERS, SMALL HOG RAISERS SUSTAIN PORK SUPPLY

The Iloilo provincial government tiptoes on its sentinelling program, an initial step towards repopulation of the local hog industry devastated for over two years by the dreaded African Swine Fever (ASF) disease.

Gov. Arthur Defendor Jr. announced over the weekend the release of P4.28 million intended for 357 farmers in the 6 towns of Btac. Viejo, Di**le, Sta. Barbara, New Lucena, Banate and San Miguel "as trial run" in finding out the status of ASF in areas labeled as pink zones.

Even then the governor noted that many backyard hog raisers have risked repopulating, that resulted in a 84,323 increase of hog heads in August, from 72,320 in January this year.

Still, the total number is 30% off the self-sufficient level, with eleven towns remaining under the red zone, or ASF-infested category.

San Joaquin town in southern Iloilo has recorded the latest cases of ASF resulting in 52 hog deaths. The town borders with Antique, another ASF hard-hit province.

MARCOS NAMES 'KIKO' BENITEZ DIRECTOR GENERAL OF TESDA

Malacañang announced August 16, 2024 the appointment by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (FMJ) of Negros Occidental 3rd district representative Jose Francisco 'Kiko' Benitez direcror-general of the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).

Benitez were "to assume immediately" as replacement to Suharto Mangudadato who resigned from Tesda last July, according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Except for his "unheralded stint" in the Congressional commission on education (EDCOM 2) Benitez had no previous background in the field of technical and vocational education.
