Forty-eight (48) third year Juris Doctor (JD) students of the University of San Agustin College of Law joined a Tree Planting Activity led by law students of West Visayas State University (WVSU) yesterday, December 15. The activity was held at WVSU College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) in Lambunao, Iloilo.

This Tree Planting Activity is regularly conducted by WVSU-CAF as part of a reforestation project under the โ€œHanduman and Carbon Sink Projectโ€ of the Global Business Power Corporation, with which WVSU partnered. This time, third year JD students of the USA College of Law taking the subject Environmental and Natural Resources Law under Atty. Ricardo Escanlar III joined the activity.

There are several Philippine laws related to tree planting and reforestation. RA 115, enacted in 1947, aimed to provide funds for reforestation.

RA 2706, enacted in 1960, established the Reforestation Administration as a separate government agency under the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, tasked with carrying out reforestation projects and initiatives in the Philippines.

RA 3701, enacted in 1963, penalized persons who entered, occupied, damaged or destroyed public forests or forest products without the written permission of the Director of Forestry or his duly authorized representative.

Lastly, RA 10176, enacted in 2011, sought the revival of Arbor Day in all provinces, cities and municipalities for tree planting activities to be held on a specific date every year, at the discretion of the local government unit concerned.

The Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR), in partnership with the Philippine Arbitration Center in the Visayas (PACV) and the USA College of Law, holds ADR Caravan at the USA Fray Luis De Leon Learning Commons today, November 27.

The event aims to promote and encourage the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and aims to thoroughly discuss the importance, purpose, and benefits of the application of ADR among law students and legal professionals. The program features a series of insightful lectures and discussions currently being delivered by the OADR team.

Students from the USA College of Law and the UP College of Law, along with some guests and several USA Law faculty members participated in the program. Also, this ADR Caravan involves accreditation and certification for ADR Practitioners. This event is part of OADR's ongoing efforts to empower ADR advocates and foster a culture of peaceful dispute resolution.

Over 60 participants gathered in Brgy. Nabitasan, Leganes, Iloilo yesterday, November 24, to participate in โ€œCyberpeace: Creating a Peaceful Internet Togetherโ€ - an event aimed to create a safer, more secure digital space for everyone. This program was spearheaded by the Portia Club of the USA College of Law, together with the Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office (SACEO) of the University of San Agustin.

The initiative aimed to equip young people aged 9-15 with essential digital literacy skills and promote responsible online behavior. The event featured a series of insightful lectures delivered by esteemed speakers from the USA College of Law and members of the Portia Club:

๐‘๐ข๐œ๐š ๐Œ๐š๐ž ๐‚๐š๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐จ of JD 2-A, enlightened the young audience on the importance of being ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜, emphasizing the need for critical thinking and media literacy.

While ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ข๐ค๐ค๐š ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐›๐ฎ๐ฅ๐จ, also of JD 2-A, highlighted the significance of being ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—”๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜, urging participants to stay vigilant against online threats and scams.

๐€๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฅ ๐˜๐ฏ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐š๐ of JD 3-C on the other hand, emphasized the power of being ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ด, encouraging young people to build resilience and self-confidence in the digital age.

๐Œ๐œ๐Š๐š๐ฒ๐ฅ๐š ๐†๐จ๐›๐จ๐ฒ of JD 3-A and incumbent President of the Portia Club, underscored the importance of being ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ž๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ, promoting empathy, respect, and positive online interactions.

While ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐‚๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐š-๐“๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ž of JD 2-C, inspired the audience to be ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ, empowering them to stand up against cyberbullying and online harassment.

๐“๐ž๐š๐œ๐ก ๐๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ž๐š๐œ๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ, together with ๐†๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฅ๐ž ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ, originally launched this program titled, โ€œCyberspace: Creating Peaceful Internet Togetherโ€ which aimed to foster respect and sensitivity in both online and offline interactions. It encourages online responsibility and respectful online presence.

By fostering a culture of digital citizenship, the "Cyberpeace" event empowers young individuals to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.

The Blue Initiative successfully held a Legal Aid and Medical Mission at the Ateneo de Iloilo - Santa Maria Catholic School today, November 23.

The event brought together a diverse group of individuals including lawyers, doctors, medical practitioners, volunteers, law student practitioners, clients, and patients.

This mission aimed to provide free legal services such as consultations and drafting of legal documents while simultaneously bringing medical services closer to the community. Lawyers were on hand to assist with a variety of legal issues, while medical professionals offered consultations and treatments.

The Blue Initiative's Legal Aid and Medical Mission turned out to be a resounding success, demonstrating the power of community service and collaboration. By providing essential services to those in need, the initiative has made an impact on the lives of many in the community.

In Photos: To promote accessible justice to communities, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Iloilo Chapter together with law student practitioners from University of San Agustin conducted a Legal Aid at the Municipal Gym of Leon, Iloilo on November 21, Thursday.

Brgy. Officials of the Municipality of Leon participated in the event.

Members of the IBP, together with LSPs, conducted pre-screening sessions before consultations. Concurrently, informative talks are being held on Katarungang Pambarangay, led by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Also, financial assistance from the Office of the Governor was presented by the Liga ng mga Barangay-Iloilo Province.
