𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 | Pursuant to Memorandum No. 2024-004, released by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA), Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) has reinstated the implementation of the blended learning modality for the first semester.

Asynchronous learning for both undergraduate and graduate levels will take place during Week 8 (September 30 to October 6, 2024) and Week 12 (October 28 to November 3, 2024).

During these periods, with no in-person classes, faculty members will conduct asynchronous activities such as video lectures, discussion forums, quizzes, and interactive assignments that promote self-paced learning and collaboration, tailored to their respective course objectives.

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗢𝗠 𝗗𝗔𝗬 | Out of 180 countries, the Philippines stands at 134th in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index. Press freedom teeters on the edge of crisis as the archipelago grows increasingly perilous for journalists—silenced, maltreated, and oppressed. These dangers, like knives at their throats, gravely restrict the delivery of truth.

On this day, we stand with the vanguards of truth in observance of National Press Freedom Day. Yet, beyond this day of recognition, we must never forget the relentless struggles the press continues to endure. We must rally to defend these indispensable voices, whose role is crucial in the pursuit of justice and enlightenment. With their unwavering courage, the voices of the people will continue to resonate and never be silenced.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | They say bad music brings rain, but yesterday at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), the downpour seemed to be out of joy. Even the sky appeared entertained by IPAG’s day three performance, “Panag-uyon”, held on August 29, 2024, along the old SET building hallway. This was part of the week-long event 'IPAG in the Frames: An Exhibit,' marking the 47th Theater Season of the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG).

Panag-uyon highlighted traditional musical forms like "Kalilang" and "Madal Tahaw" through spectacular performances that enthralled the audience throughout. The precision with which each piece was performed demonstrated the performers' expertise and dedication to their craft. A dynamic and immersive atmosphere was created as the music filled the hallway, bringing people into the chorus of a transcending art. Though modest in size, the hall deepened the experience, amplifying the music's full depth and resonance.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | One of the most striking aspects of a performance is the layer of stories that wreathe its delivery, each unfolding in unexpected ways. This variety extended not only to the themes but also to the spaces where the art came alive. On August 28, Wednesday, the second day of IPAG's 47th Theater Season, the audience was treated to a bold, immersive experience that transformed an ordinary hallway into a living, breathing stage. Held in the SET Hallway at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), the performance defied expectations, drawing the crowd into a world where the boundaries of the theater were redefined. The walls of the hallway became part of the story, leaving the audience eager to see what would happen next.

Several actors opened the play, captivating even those unfamiliar with performance art. Each emotion, gesture, and word was a work of art as they seamlessly picked up on each other’s cues, leaving the audience to expect the unexpected. The play’s twists and turns surprised both the audience and the performers, who wove their roles together without a script to them.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | Art is often seen as something confined within frames—visuals hung on walls, performances staged within a set space. But on the opening night of their 47th Theater Season, the MSU-IIT Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) shattered these boundaries with their immersive performance, “Kamulo.” Held on August 27, 2024, in the SET Hallway, the evening wasn’t just about performing within frames—it was about breaking free from them. As the rain poured down outside, IPAG’s artists stepped beyond the conventional limits of their craft, reframing the way we experience art.

The night proved that even rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of IPAG’s performers or their commitment to artistic innovation. The collaborative nature of the performance, along with the guild’s dedication to pushing boundaries, was on full display. “Kamulo” was more than just a season opener—it marked the beginning of a bold journey in reframing not only their art but also the way audiences experience it.

Continuing through its 47th Theater Season, IPAG’s upcoming performances will delve deeper into this process of reframing through dialogues, music, and cultural vignettes. The performers didn’t merely entertain; they redefined what it means to perform by embracing risks, collaborating across disciplines, and welcoming unpredictability. Moving forward, each performance will serve as an invitation to see the world anew—proof that when art is reframed, it has the power to transcend boundaries and leave a lasting impact that resonates far beyond the final bow.

The online voting for the KASAMA General Elections 2024 will commence today. The eBallot will be available from 8:00 AM on August 28 and will automatically close at 9:00 PM on August 30, 2024. To ensure confidentiality and prevent election fraud, the eBallot will be integrated into my.iit.edu.ph.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | With their advocacy to anchor on friendship as a tool for peace, Project Amihan: Young Peace Weavers’ first initiative, a three-day Digital Storytelling Workshop, came to a close on August 26 at Alan Sr. Residences in Iligan City, featuring a focused critique of the participants’ video outputs and a reflective session on the entire workshop experience.

The workshop outputs—short videos created by each pair of friends, partnered during the application process—leveraged the humor of popular culture to craft their advocacy videos aimed at capturing the media consumer’s attention.

Zailla Althea Alarde, a Psychology student from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), also shared her thoughts on the friendship and bond that developed during the event, expressing her hope that this connection would not only persist but continue to grow.

Reflecting on the activities from day one to day three, Alarde reminisced about the experiences they shared. She reiterated, “Even now, on our last day, our friendship continues to grow. I hope it doesn’t end here, even outside of this event. We should continue to be friends despite our differences”.

The event concluded with Project Leader Antonio quoting Professor Sittie Pasandalan’s words from her lecture on the first day: “If you can imagine it, you can create it.” Antonio reinforced the importance of persistence, noting that while creating a project might have challenges, it is crucial to return and reaffirm its initial purpose.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Following the success of their first learning session on Social Media Management last July, the MSU-IIT NMPC Youth Cooperative partnered with the MSU-IIT Indigenous People Student Advocates (MIPSA) to deliver their second session entitled “Indigenous People Inclusion and Mainstreaming” on August 24 at the MSU-IIT NMPC Head Office, Pala-o, Iligan City.

The workshop focused on advocacy building, allowing participants to recognize grassroots issues affecting Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and their respective communities, and to brainstorm solutions and feasible initiatives.

In attendance were selected representatives from various youth groups within Iligan City and MSU-IIT, with CASSayuran, the official college publication of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) among the participating organizations.

As students of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), we are primed and oriented in the front seat of social issues and the plight of living in a rapidly evolving society. As subjects of abject knowledge-passing, it is an imperative that we materialize learnings into the values concrete in our lives: it is with this purpose in mind that the Editorial Department of CASSayuran conducts this year's Opinion Poll for the CASS Executive Council Candidates to guage how they manifest these values as aspirants for the positions. As they aim to lead our community, may this initiative provide the foundation from which they will ground their leadership in the months ahead.

As the exercise of our right to vote lie imminent, with the election commencing tomorrow, we must first assess who we are voting for. Know more about our candidates' stand on issues that concern the college, university, and beyond.

Today, on National Heroes Day, we remember not just the names etched in our history books, but the countless acts of bravery, sacrifice, and love that have guided our nation through its darkest hours. These heroes, both celebrated and unsung, sacrificed their lives not for recognition, but for the freedom and future of the next generations. Our brave heroes have devoted their energies to stand in the frontlines, sheathing their minds and swords to challenge the oppressors and set our lands free. Their acts of valor were driven by a deep and unwavering commitment to the dignity and worth of the Filipino people.

In honoring their sacrifices, we are reminded that the spirit of heroism lives on within each of us. It is our commitment to truth, justice, and the betterment of our society that gives our heroes’ deeds purpose and meaning. As we face the challenges of our time, let us draw strength from their example and strive to live up to the ideals they fought for. Today, we are called not just to remember, but to carry their legacy forward with pride and responsibility. Joined by distinguished speakers from across the country namely, John Marwin Elao, Paolo Miguel Ordonio, and Mark Anthony Artis, the discussion unveiled layers of perspective from their different fields into a unifying goal of peacebuilding.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | “𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩.”

As part of its advocacy to leverage friendship as a tool for peace, Project Amihan: Young Peace Weavers was launched with a three-day Digital Storytelling Workshop, the first in a series of initiatives, aimed at sharing stories of friendship to promote cultural understanding and reduce stereotypes particularly in Iligan, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur.

Set to last from August 24 to 26 at Alan Sr. Residences in Iligan City, the twenty participants chosen to join were from different ethnic and religious backgrounds across Iligan City and the Lanao Provinces. Prior to their selection, participants had been screened in pairs with a friend of a different background through a joint online application.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | Makibahagi. Makibaka. Maki-anek.

Warming the path to a better world with sparks of well-intentioned passion, the MSU-IIT Youth Chain of Peace (MYCOP) has blazed the trail for Mindanaoan youth-led organizations as one the honorees for the 21st Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards — National Awarding Ceremony held on August 19, 2024 at the Manila Metropolitan Theatre.

With Project PLAY+ (Peace Leadership Academy for the Youth), MYCOP is breaking cycles one at a time by forefronting the act of play as an act of peacebuilding, comprehensively integrating peace concepts into games, borne out of the well-heard conflict lines among Mindanaoan youth who aspires for a better, and more peaceful Mindanao. The project implores youth leaders to participate in activities articulated in modules like “Transforming Organizational Conflicts” and a work in progress named “Transitional Justice: Dealing with the Past, Healing, and Reconciliation,” capacitating them on the competencies of being a peace leader.

“Makibahagi. Makibaka. Maki-anek sa mga gawain natin dito sa Mindanao and the peace process here,” Gelogo urges everyone to be part of MYCOP’s effort. He clarifies that they are not solving the peace process in the community because it is not their job, but they do their best to do something meaningful that comes from the volition of doing good, which does not have to be grand. MYCOP’s development, in partnership with TAYO, will pursue a new chapter to leverage what they can do in Iligan and other areas like the Municipality of Nunungan, which they believe best needs their help, among many spaces they aim to pe*****te like Lanao del Norte and even BARMM.

In the spirit of their earnest gamble for a distant utopia of peace, MYCOP’s commitment perseveres as they walk greater lengths, carrying concrete values despite their tender age. It is efforts like these that spark the glimmer of hope towards nation-building that knows no age nor accolades; the flattery of a trophy, as young protégés of community work, have never veered the direction of their feet whose steps lead to bigger paths for a better future.

“𝗞𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗸𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘆𝗮.”

True to CASS’ mantra, the College of Arts and Social Sciences Executive Council (CASS-EC), along with the Psychology Society, Political Science Society (PSS), and the MSU-IIT Historical Society (MIHS) exemplified the embodiment of this principle as they were recognized as recipients of the Gawad Serbisyo Award last August 16, for their exceptional service and initiatives for the student body throughout academic year, 2023-2024.

Through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services (OVCSS) and the Office of Student Development Services (OSDS), this awarding ceremony was hosted by the Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA), led by outgoing President Chester Laurie Tagacay, a fellow CASS Arachnid who also received the Gawad Serbisyo award in recognition of his service and commitment.

𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙, 𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙.

It has been 41 years since the martyrdom of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., who stood as one of the shining beacons in the fight against dictatorship. In his life, he held his principles in an iron grip– refusing to settle with tyrants, yet still advocated for a non-violent resolution. With his body, he carved out a symbol of resistance while in captivity. In death, his unmodified cadaver laid as an unrepenting reminder to Filipinos of not only his tragedy, but also his unyielding drive to witness his country’s liberation.

Even well past forty years, Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. still is upheld as a leading figure against tyranny. While he may not have seen the culmination of his work, his influence on recent political movements is undeniable. As the Filipinos now face our own battles against injustice, oppression, and corruption, may we always remember his spirit and character– for we all struggle and must fight as one.

Celebrating sixty-four (64) newly registered Psychometricians from the College of Arts and Social Sciences, the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology garnered an overall performance rate of 85.33% in the recently concluded Psychometricians Licensure Examination, held last August 11-12, 2024.

Fifty-eight (58) out of 65 (89.23%) of these examinees are first-time takers, while 6 out of 10 (60%) retook the licensure exam.

Overall, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) bares the addition of 7,478 new Psychometricians.

The heat of the sun peaks through the trees lining CASS’ lawn, casting dappled light on a sea of fresh faces. There's an air of excitement and nervous energy, the kind that could only mean one thing: a new chapter in life begins. For some, it is the start of a journey they've been dreaming of for years, for others, it is the beginning of a path they're just beginning to carve out. But whether they stride across campus with confidence or with the careful steps of a new explorer, one thing is certain–these freshmen are ready to embark on an adventure like no other.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | The College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is reveling in the recent success of two students who recently captured spotlights in major pageants. Political Science Society's Crystal Mae Domocol is the new Miss Kiwalan 2024. Meanwhile, Sherrilyn Villanueva from the Literature, Language, and Culture Society is Miss Acmac Charity 2024. Their victories on August 13 and 14, 2024, showcased the caliber of talents that thrive within CASS.

Crystal Mae Domocol achieved a long-held ambition by competing to become Miss Kiwalan 2024. This dream was driven by a desire to inspire others and represent her community, but she was always hindered by self-doubt. Allowing her reservations to get in the way held her back from fully committing to pageants. But there was something different about this year. She was prepared to face her fears, as she thought this was her time. With those around her, Crystal bravely gave herself over to the exhilaration. "With courage and determination, even the most daunting dreams can be realized," she adds, reflecting on her experience.

On the other hand, Sherrilyn Villanueva's drive to become Miss Acmac Charity 2024 was motivated by a clear sense of purpose. Sherrilyn was no stranger to the spotlight, having placed second runner-up in the Miss Acmac pageant in 2022. However, her ambition for a title was not the only reason she entered the pageant. Sherrilyn was driven by a deep desire to uplift her community, especially to the impoverished children and youths living in her remote purok. "My participation in the pageant is inspired by this goal of serving my community and making a positive impact," she explains.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘨𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵? Some say out there in the streets, but last night, the gathering of these felines is no longer a mystery, an answer is finally found, as this year's Acquaintance Party opens the stage for another whimsical event for these pawsome crowd, at Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), as the cats returned.

Organized by the Kataastaasang Sangunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA) under the theme, "The Cat Returns", this pounce of cats in the gymnasium is straight from a magical Ghibli movie, paired with the convergence of clothing styles from several categories like cottagecore, laid back, campus vibes and being extra. Seasoned with a hint of fun activities, enough to rile up the energy and bring out the heat for the rest of the night.

This has become more than just an annual event and tradition for the students themselves. Moonlit nights like these have never felt so special, as they resonate with the youth, the freedom, and the feeling of being alive amidst the rat race of college life. What a feeling indeed, for the cats to return and until the next time, remain once more.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | To officially acknowledge the achievements of student-athletes over the past academic year, the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) held its first-ever Outstanding MSU-IIT Athletics Recognition (OMAR) Awards, a ceremony celebrating athletic excellence and honoring the contributions of the university’s sports community, the MSU-IIT Cats, on August 15, at the Institute Gymnasium.

Following their impressive success as the overall 1st Runner-Up at the 7th MSU System Athletic Association (MSUSAA) Unity Games held last June at MSU-General Santos City, this awarding ceremony was organized not only to showcase the CAThletes’ stories of hard work and dedication but also to motivate them, reaffirming the institute’s full support of their endeavors.
