5.0 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗜𝗕𝗝𝗢, 𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Libjo, Dinagat Islands, on the evening of February 2, 2025. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the quake was recorded at approximately 11:43 PM.

The earthquake had a depth of 104 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. PHIVOLCS also noted that aftershocks are expected following this tremor.

The shaking was felt at Intensity IV in Libjo, Loreto, and Tubajon, while Intensity III was reported in Basilisa and San Jose, Dinagat Islands. Intensity II was experienced in Dinagat, Cagdianao, and Claver, Surigao del Norte.

SIBUCO, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE –In order for 40 individuals from Sibuco who have successfully earned their National Certificate II (NC-II) in Driving, a significant achievement facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and local government support.

This accomplishment follows a comprehensive training program made possible by the efforts of Congressman Adrian Michael “IAN” Amatong of the 3rd District of Zamboanga del Norte. The training aimed to equip participants with essential driving skills, enhancing their employability and contributing to local workforce development.

Mayor Joel Ventura expressed his gratitude for the support provided throughout the training process. The scholars completed their training in Sibuco, culminating in an assessment held in Dipolog City from January 28 to 31, 2025. This assessment marked a crucial step in validating their skills and qualifications.

The local government, alongside TESDA, remains committed to providing opportunities for skill development and vocational training to empower the community. With this achievement, the newly certified drivers are expected to positively impact their families and the broader Sibuco community.

This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to promote technical education and enhance job readiness among the youth in Zamboanga del Norte, fostering a brighter future for the region.

TAMPILISAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – Ang Department of Science and Technology Office IX (DOST-IX) mihatag og pondo nga nagkantidad sa ₱1,748,700 ngadto sa Local Government Unit (LGU) sa Tampilisan aron suportahan ang ilang ‘Community Empowerment’ pinaagi sa ‘Science and Technology’(CEST) Project.

Ang maong kalihukan gitambungan pinaagi sa mga ‘key partners’’ nga gipanulohan ni Mayor Norabeth “Bading” Carloto, Engr. Josephine T. Jamolod, MPDC; Barangay Captain Milanio Larato Jr. sa Brgy. Situbo; mga teachers-in-charge gikan sa Situbo National High School ug Situbo Elementary School. PSTO-ZDN ubos sa pagpangulo ni PSTD Nuhman M. Aljani kaniadtong Enero 22.

Pagkahuman sa seremonya, usa ka miting alang sa pagsugod sa proyekto ang gihimo aron masiguro ang epektibong koordinasyon ug implementasyon sa proyekto. Ang miting nagsilbing plataporma aron i-outline ang mga tumong, deliverables, ug mga timeline sa proyekto, aron masiguro nga ang tanan nga stakeholders magka-uyon sa ilang mga paningkamot.

Ang CEST usa sa mga flagship program sa DOST, nga gilaraw aron mapalambo ang sustainable development sa tibuok komunidad pinaagi sa mga interbensyon sa siyensya ug teknolohiya.

Ang programa nagpunting sa lima ka ‘enterventions’ nga naglangkob pinaagi sa CEST entry points sama sa Kabuhayan, Kahimsog ug Nutrisyon, Pagpanalipod ug Konserbasyon sa Kalikupan, Edukasyon, ug Pagpangandam sa Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

SALUG, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – Pinaagi sa pagtuman sa mga saad ug paglantaw sa mga kakulangon sa lungsod sa Salug, duha ka mga multimillion-peso nga proyekto ang opisyal nga gitunol sa duha ka barangay karong adlawa, Enero 30.

Ang mga proyekto, nga gilantaw nga maoy magpauswag sa ekonomiya sa komunidad, ug makatabang sa pag-pakusog sa kalidad sa kinabuhi sa mga katawhan.

Ang seremonya nagpunting sa duha ka dagkong proyekto pinaagi sa pagtukod ug pagpaayo sa dalan paingon sa Trade Industries and Economic Zones nga molagbas sa dalan sa barangay Lipakan ug Ipilan nga mokonektar sa nasudnong dalan paingon sa Biodiesel Processing plant nga mikantidad sa 5 ka milyon ug laing 10 milyones ang gipahat alang sa maong proyekto.

Sa laing bahin, laing multi-purpose building, (barangay hall) sa Barangay Bacong, ang gisubhan sa susamang adlaw diin kini nagkatidad sa 5 milyones.

Kining maong pasilidad ang mamahimong sentro alang sa mga kalihokan sa komunidad ug lokal nga panggamhanan.

Ang maong kalihokan gipanguluhan ni Cong. Ian Amatong, dinuyugan sa mga 3rd District Board Members JR Brillantes, Atty. Leo Nicanor Mejorada, ug Venus Uy.

Apil usab sa mga misaksi sila si Salug Vice Mayor Saul Maraon ug umaabot nga mayor Dra. Ruth Brillantes, kauban ang mga SB members Marichu Acas ug Mercedario Pamil, ug Barangay Chairpersons Donato Palomares (Ipilan) ug Neneng Maravillas (Bacong).

Kining duha ka proyekto ang gi-implementar sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), uban sa Project Engineer Ralph Evangelista nga maoy gitahasan sa pagtutok ug pagdumala sa trabaho.

Ang seremonya giduyogan usab nila ni Alecsi Guile Andrei Khio, usa ka representante gikan sa Department of Trade and Industry, ug ZN ROLL IT focal person.

Gipakita usab ang hugot nga suporta nila ni Vice Governor Atty. Julius Napigquit ug sa umaabot nga gobernador, Dipolog City Mayor Darel Uy, nga parehong nagpadayag sa ilang hingpit nga suporta alang sa mga plano sa pagpalambo ni Cong. Ian nga nagtumong sa pagpauswag sa mga katawhan sa 3rd District sa Zamboanga del Norte.

SIBUCO, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE (January 29, 2025) – The local government of Sibuco, led by Mayor Joel Ventura, has successfully conducted essential road maintenance along the route connecting Barangay Jaitian to Barangay Lakiki.

This significant improvement project was made possible through the allocation of funds from the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).

The maintenance work, which is part of the administration's commitment to enhancing local infrastructure, was overseen by Municipal Engineer, Anwar Kenny Andrew F. Amilasan. The initiative aims to improve accessibility and safety for residents and visitors alike, fostering better connectivity within the community.

Mayor Ventura emphasized the importance of maintaining and upgrading local roads to support economic growth and ensure the well-being of Sibuco's citizens. The completion of this project reflects the administration's ongoing dedication to sustainable development and responsive governance.

SAN PABLO, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR (January 29, 2025)— A magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook parts of Zamboanga del Sur today, with the epicenter located near the town of San Pablo.

The tremor occurred at 12:37 PM and was felt across several areas, including Molave, where an Intensity III level was reported.

Residents in nearby Pagadian City also experienced the shaking, prompting brief moments of alarm. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), the earthquake's strength was significant but not expected to cause substantial damage.

Residents are advised to stay alert but assured that the situation is being monitored closely.

This event serves as a reminder of the region's seismic activity, and residents are encouraged to remain prepared for any future incidents.

I extend my sincerest commendation to the brave and dedicated operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for their exceptional teamwork and vigilance in the successful anti-drug operation conducted on January 25, 2025, at Barangay Central, Dipolog City. This significant operation is a clear demonstration of our shared commitment to safeguarding the future of our city and protecting our communities from the destructive impact of illegal drugs.

The operation led to the seizure of approximately three kilograms of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of P20.4 million, a significant blow to the drug trade in our region. This accomplishment also resulted in the arrest of a high-value target, alias Darwin, a 47-year-old resident of Barangay Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City, and a driver by profession. Alias Darwin now faces charges for violating Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and is currently in custody.

This is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our law enforcement agencies, whose tireless efforts ensure that those who dare to peddle illegal drugs in our communities are held accountable.

LILOY, ZN (January 25, 2025) – A crucial meeting took place recently, bringing together key stakeholders in the agricultural sector to discuss the establishment of a possible coconut processing plant in the proposed Ecozone area of Barangay Kayok, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.

The gathering featured prominent figures including Mr. Bryan Thomas, CEO of Syntegral Global Investor, Congressman Ian Amatong, and several third district mayors including Hon. Roberto “Junjun” Uy (Liloy), Hon. Norabeth “Bading” Carloto (Tampilisan), Hon. Joel M. Ventura (Sibuco), and Hon. Jelster Ed “Jed” Quimbo (Labason).

The meeting also included Vice Mayor Saul Maraon (Salug), PCA Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Manager Ariel Tomong, and mayoralty candidates Dr. Ruth Maraon-Brillantes (Salug) and Mr. Richie Uy (Godod), along with local agricultural experts such as the Municipal Agriculturist of Liloy and an Agricultural Technician from Gutalac.

The event was notably attended by Congressman Ian Amatong, who addressed the gathering with inspiring words, alongside guest gubernatorial candidate Darel Uy.

DIPOLOG CITY (Enero 25, 2025)—Usa ka lalaki ang nasikop sa usa ka hiniusang drug buy bust operation sa mga miembro sa Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), anti-drug team sa Dipolog CPS, Dapitan CPS, PNP- RDEU9 sa may Rizal Ave. corner Osmeña St., dakbayan Sa Dipolog.

Ang suspetsado nga lumolupyo sa Sangali, Zamboanga City, 47 anyos, diin ang pangalan gipugngan pa sa mga otoridad sa pagbutyag samtang gi-validate pa ang mga nakuhang detalye sa mitumaw sa imbestigasyon, ilabina ang mga koneksyon niini sa tibook rehiyon, nagpadayon pa.

Matud pa ni PDEA Regional Director, Maharani R. Gadaoni-Tosoc nga kining ilang nasikop maoy una ug pinakadako dinhi sa Dipolog.

Sa pangutana usab sa prensa nga “dili ba kini maka apekto sa Dipolog City tungod kang halos tanan nga mga kabarangayan, mga drug-cleared naman, siya nagkanayon nga “eto ‘yong challenge sa ating mga LGU, porket nag di-declare na ng drug-cleared ang ating barangays, or municipalities or cities, ay hihinto na tayo. Yong sustainability efforts natin ay tuloy-tuloy. Posible pa rin tayo mapasok ng droga. And it doesn’t mean naman na maraming drug users dito sa Dipolog. Possible na naging ‘transshipment point’ lang itong ating area and then eventually it will be distributed to the whole Zamboanga Peninsula.

Sa kabahin ni COP Edwin Verzon, siya nagpasalamat ug dako sa komunidad ilabina sa ilang “informant” nga maoy naghatag ensaktong detalye sa pagsikop sa suspetsado. Dugang pa niya nga ang Dipolog PNP hugot ang ilang pagsuporta sa mga programa sa adbokasiya batok sa droga ug mga importante nga estratehiya nga gidesinyo aron supakon ang pag-abuso sa droga.

Hinoon, ang suspetsado miyukbo nga malinawon sa dihang gidakop siya sa mga otoridad human siya nagbaligya og tulo ka kilo nga shabu nga nagkantidad og P20.4 milyon sa usa ka tradeoff nga nahitabo sa maong lugar.

Ang seremonyas sa mga proyekto gitambongan sa mga lokal nga opisyal, mga opisyal sa DepEd, ug mga magtutudlo lakip na si Labason Mayor Jed Quimbo, mga barangay chairman, ug mga lider sa komunidad.

Ang mga proyekto, nga gipondohan sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), naglakip sa mga hinungdanon nga pagpamuhat sa mga imprastruktura ug pasilidad sa komunidad, nga naglambigit sa dedikasyon sa lokal nga pagpalambo.

Ang mga mahinungdanong proyekto nga gitanyag atol sa seremonyas naglakip sa: 2-Storey, 4-Classroom School Building sa La Union Elementary School sa Brgy. La Union, ( Php 12,967,500.00); 1-Storey, 2-Classroom School Building sa Osukan Elementary School sa Brgy. Osukan, ( Php 4,987,500.00); Multi-Purpose Building sa Kipit Agro-Fishery High School sa Brgy. Kipit, (Php 10 milyon); Multi-Purpose Building sa Brgy. Balas, (Php 3 milyon); Multi-Purpose Building sa Brgy. Lawigan, (Php 3 milyon) ug ang Road Concreting sa Barangay La Union Farm to Market Road sa Brgy. La Union, (Php 15 milyon).

Si Cong. Amatong, uban nila ni BM Kay Marie Bolando, BM JR Brillantes, BM Leo Nicanor Mejorada, ug BM Venus Uy, mipahayag sa kamahinungdanon sa mga proyekto pinaagi sa edukasyonal nga kalamboan ug sa pagpaayo sa lokal nga imprastruktura.

Ang Vice Governor Atty. Julius Napigquit ug ang gubernatorial aspirant nga si Dipolog City Mayor Darel Uy, nagpahayag sa ilang bug-os nga suporta sa mga inisyatibo sa Team A, nga nag-ila sa potensyal niini sa pagduso sa ekonomikanhong pagpalambo ug sa pagpataas sa kalidad sa kinabuhi sa mga katawhan sa Zamboanga del Norte.
