THE BLIND LEADING THE LOST
“He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.” -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
The circus in Congress and the Senate is no longer just an insult—it is an outright betrayal. While we toil, bleed, and sacrifice for this country, our so-called leaders squander not only our hard-earned money but our trust, our future, and our dignity. They’ve turned governance into a spectacle of greed and indifference, leaving 119 million Filipinos adrift, like the blind leading the lost.
Let’s call it what it is: a ruthless betrayal. When Congress slashed billions from education, they didn’t just cut numbers on a spreadsheet—they ripped opportunities away from our children. They stole dreams from students desperate to escape poverty through learning. They sabotaged a future where Filipinos could compete on the world stage.
How dare they? Article XIV of our Constitution demands that education receive the highest budgetary priority, yet these legislators gutted it without shame. With every peso they diverted, they condemned another child to illiteracy and hopelessness. Our nation’s ranking as the world’s lowest in Math, Science, and Reading is no accident—it’s a crime.
Then there’s PhilHealth, a lifeline for millions of Filipinos. Congress’ decision to give it zero funding in the 2025 budget is not just reckless—it’s heartless. Imagine the anguish of parents who can’t afford a doctor’s visit for their sick child, the despair of a breadwinner struck down by illness with nowhere to turn.
PhilHealth’s reserves are not “excess funds” for Congress to plunder—they are the lifeblood of our healthcare system, built from the sacrifices of Filipino workers. Yet lawmakers treated it like a piggy bank, justifying their theft with half-truths and lies. The Universal Health Care Act mandates that sin taxes fund PhilHealth, but they broke that law too.
This isn’t just mismanagement. It’s cruelty, plain and simple. And while they strip us of healthcare, they demand higher contributions from those who can least afford it. They have the gall to call it governance—it’s robbery in broad daylight.
The “Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program” (AKAP) is nothing but a political bribe dressed up as charity. That P26 billion is not ayuda—it’s ammunition for election campaigns, a cynical ploy to keep reelectionists in power. They will dole it out like scraps from their table, while millions of us, the true owners of that money, fight for crumbs.
Do they think we’re fools? Do they think we don’t see their schemes? Every peso spent on AKAP is another peso stolen from education, healthcare, and development. It’s another slap in the face for every struggling Filipino.
What’s most heartbreaking is our silence. We, the people, who bear the brunt of their betrayal, remain passive. Why are we not in the streets, demanding justice? Why do we allow this cycle of corruption and cruelty to continue?
Is it fear? Apathy? Exhaustion? Whatever the reason, our silence makes us complicit. When we stay quiet, we tell them it’s okay to rob us, to violate our Constitution, to treat us as pawns in their selfish games.
Even our Supreme Court, the supposed last line of defense against this madness, has been cowed. They are too afraid of congressional impeachment to do their job. What hope do we have when justice itself is silenced?
This isn’t governance. It’s betrayal. It’s theft. It’s a mockery of everything our heroes fought for. But it doesn’t have to end this way.
We can fight back. We can demand accountability. We can make it clear that enough is enough. Let’s hold these so-called leaders to their oaths, force them to honor their promises, and remind them that their power comes from us, the people.
If we remain silent, they will destroy this nation piece by piece, one stolen peso at a time. But if we rise, if we find our voice, if we stand together, we can take back what is rightfully ours: a future built on integrity, justice, and hope.
The question is, how much more are we willing to lose before we act? Let this betrayal ignite a fire within us. Let this anger turn into action.
The time to fight for our country is now!
