Several progressive groups and supporters, members, consumer-owners, and employees of Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Nordeco) simultaneously staged peace rallies at Freedom Park, Roxas Avenue, Davao City, and at the Trade Center Pavilion in Tagum City on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025.

Several groups in Davao City and Davao del Norte staged protests against a bill seeking to expand Davao Light's franchise into areas currently served by Nordeco. Concerns include potential higher electricity rates, job losses, and the undermining of rural electrification efforts.

Stressing that work and responsibilities in the Department should not be thought of as burdensome, Department of Davao (DepEd-Davao) Regional Director (RD) Allan G. Farnazo encouraged education leaders earlier today to think of strategies to increase student performance in national assessments such as Early Language Literacy and Numeracy (ELLNA) and National Achievement Test (NAT) during the 104th Regional Management Committee Meeting at Bulwagan ng Karunungan, Provincial Capitol of Davao del Norte.

DepEd-Davao recognized divisions with outstanding performance in the ELLNA and NAT assessments, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and strategic planning to improve student outcomes. TRUMP WANTS US TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF GAZA AND REDEVELOP IT AFTER PALESTINIANS ARE RESETTLED ELSEWHERE

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he wants the U.S. to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere.

“We will own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site,” Trump said a start of a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump added the U.S. would level destroyed buildings and “create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”

The comments came after Trump earlier suggested that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be “permanently” resettled outside the war-torn territory. | via AP

Sun Star Davao

Sun Star Davao is Davao Region's most sought after community content provider in both print and online. It is part of the Sun Star news network in the Philippines. Sun.Star Davao started as a bi-weekly newspaper Peryodiko Dabaw in December 1985 by Elpidio G. Damaso as the so-called alternative press during the end days of the Marcos dictatorship. It started publishing five times a week the following year and was relaunched as Ang Peryodiko Dabaw on September 7, 1987, marking the entry of new investors and its use of desktop publishing, while its Davao City competitors were still using letterpress. It became Sun.Star Davao in 1995 when the Sun.Star Daily of Cebu, under the leadership of its erstwhile chair Atty. Jesus B. Garcia, envisioned setting up a network of community newspapers that will redefine newspapering in the country. Soon after, Sun.Star Davao became the first community newspaper available online, way ahead of its affiliates in all other areas in the country and way before the Sun.Star News Network (Sunnex) was established. With the establishment of Sunnex, the online presence of the Sun.Star Network has been turned over to this affiliate as Sun.Star Davao focuses on its published products that include the Sun.Star Davao newspaper, the Sun.Star Davao Superbalita, and the Davao yearbook, being a content provider, and interacting in social media.
