CANADIAN Embassy Rep With D.A 11 Visit Cacao Farm.

Davao City: Canadian Embassy representatives together with the Canadian government delegations visited and had dialogue activity to DA and MEDA partner cacao FCAs in Davao City.

The MEDA's Resilience and Inclusion through Investment and Sustainable Agriculture (RIISA)-Project successfully spearheaded a farm visit in Davao last March 3, 2023 with Canadian Ambassador, David Hartman and Harjit Sajjan, Minister of Int’l Development in Canada. The delegation visited MEDA’s partner FCAs which is also a DA assisted beneficiaries.

Delegations from Canada had a farm tour at Gran Verde Farm in Barangay Upper Lacson, Calinan, Davao City owned by Ms Lizabel ‘Wit’ Holganza wherein she showcased the diverse cacao farm activities and nature preservation in her farm. They also had the opportunity to witness the demonstration of the transformation of cacao beans into chocolate organized by Ms Wit.

MEDA and the Canadian delegations had a dialogue with the cacao farmers on the key challenges in the cacao sector wherein invited representative cooperative-partners in Davao City and Davao de Oro.

Malagos farm owned by our very own cacao matriarch, Ma’am Cha Puentespina hosted as luncheon meeting for the canadian delegation and partners. They also toured at the renowned Malagos Chocolate Museum and amused with the bean to bar experience.

Present also during the activity is Councilor Marissa Salvador-Abella representing City Government of Davao and Davao Region Cacao Council Chairman, Mr. Dante ‘Toto’ Muyco. DA XI team was represented by Mr. Marvin Auxillo and Mr. JP Matuginas.

HAPAG KAY PBBM

On March 1, 2023 at Rizal Park, Manila, President and Agriculture secretary, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., spearheaded the simultaneous grand launching of the merged project of DILG's- Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay sa Barangay and DA's - Green Revolution 2.0- Plants for Bountiful Barangays Movement, wittily coined as HAPAG- KAY- PBBM. This is in support to the administration's resolve to address the issues of food supply and prices.

On his keynote speech, President Marcos affirms the government's support to local communities, public and private organizations in turning urban, peri-urban and ruraled areas into patches of green edible gardens as this would give access to affordable, safe and nutritious food to every Filipino. With the fusion of the two programs, President Marcos notes that this can be an opportunity to rethink and rework our agricultural supply system. He then encourages everyone to work together for the quick and effective promotion of urban agriculture.

After his speech, President Marcos with Key Officials conducted HAPAG KAY PBBM Walk into the Urban Garden and Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita stationed at Km 0, Burnham Green, Luneta Park.

Conducted also on the same day is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between DA and DILG on the partnership on development of capacitation of barangays to produce fruits and vegetables at home and at communal locations in assistance to the government's goal of achieving food security.

In Davao region under the HVCDP Program targeted 40 Gulayan sa Barangays to be established this year in coordinations with BLGU, LGU and DILG in support to HAPAG KAY PBBM to produce own food and achieving food security.
