SM Malls in Cebu begin sustainable waste management practices with SM GUUN

GUUN Environmental Company Inc., headquartered in Yokohama City, Japan, and with a facility in Consolacion, Cebu, has started to collect non-recyclable and hard-to-recycle wastes from SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM City Consolacion, following the joint venture agreement signed by SM Prime and GUUN Japan earlier this year.

The initiative involves sorting, curating, and formulation to meet chemical limits. This will serve as an alternative to solid fossil fuels like coal, fueling cement kilns, and industrial boilers in paper manufacturing and power plants.

GUUN’s innovative production of “fluff fuel” from non-recyclable waste materials aligns with its mission to “maintain harmony between the earth and society by creating a happy environment for the future.”

SM Prime’s partnership with GUUN aims to implement systematic waste management and resource recovery infrastructure. The joint venture seeks to minimize the landfill impact from both SM Prime and non-SM Prime managed properties, enhancing the material recovery facility operations of the Local Government Units.

SM Prime Holdings Chairman of the Executive Committee Hans Sy, emphasizing a commitment to a positive impact on local communities, shared, “It is exciting for SM Prime to partner with GUUN Japan with a joint mission to bridge the gap between society and the environment in the Philippines through investing in their pioneering solid waste management technology, which will eventually benefit all the communities that SM Prime serves.”

This initiative aligns with the SM Waste-Free Future campaign, SM Prime’s segregation program towards the overall reduction of generated waste and the increase in the rate of recovery and diversion for a waste-free world.

TelAventusMD: Your 24/7 Clinic in the Cloud for Comprehensive Teleconsult Service

Telemedicine has emerged as a revolutionary approach to healthcare, offering unparalleled convenience and accessibility without compromising the quality of patient care.

In response to the changes of patient's preference for immediate and excellent medical care, Aventus Medical Care, Inc. offers the TelAventusMD, a telemedicine platform that brings healthcare directly to your fingertips.

Known as the “Clinic in the Cloud,” TelAventusMD provides 24/7 teleconsultation service through a network of over 100 primary care and specialty physicians.

In addition to medical consultations, the service offers health and wellness counseling and referrals to Aventus multispecialty clinics.

TelAventusMD also provides e-prescriptions, plans of care, referrals for laboratory tests, diagnostic and imaging procedures.

After each teleconsultation, TelAventusMD sends these documents to patient’s email address to ensure they receive follow-up care and medication promptly.

This service uses an automated follow-up process to ensure continuity of care. Physicians schedule follow-up consultations within the TelAventusMD system. These are noted in the patient’s plan of care.

A list of patients requiring follow up daily consultations is generated daily and the triage staff contacts these patients to confirm their next appointment.

Aventus prioritizes the security and privacy of patient records by investing in security infrastructure. These investments focus on access controls, encryption, audits, secure technologies, and surveillance.

TelAventusMD accommodates various payment methods to ensure accessibility. These include health maintenance organizations (HMOs) such as Intellicare, Avega, and Surehealth. Cash payments can be made through Gcash and bank transfer.

Patients can reach by sending a message to TelAventusMD official page, and through email to [email protected].

They can also get in touch through the Intellicare Agora App or the Avega Agora App.

Another option is through the SelfServeLink by using the URL SelfServeLink - (https://telehealthlink.aventusmedical.com/teleconsult/selfservelink) or via QR code.

TelAventusMD exemplifies the future of healthcare by combining accessibility, convenience, and quality medical services.

Unveiling the Tatak CPMS brand: Nurturing Beyond Academics

In education, academic excellence often takes center stage. The Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS) marks a significant milestone in its holistic education journey with its TATAK CPMS branding.

At CPMS, the focus extends beyond academics. Yes, children learn the basics but also delve into practical daily living skills, time management, independence, teamwork, critical thinking, and decision-making. They participate in choir performances, musicals, plays, and playing musical instruments, honing their creativity, collaboration, and adaptability.

The CPMS holistic approach also focuses on practical application, providing a different motivation for the students, explained CPMS President Marivic Bathan. CPMS is preparing the children for the future through a holistic approach: an experiential, hands-on, multi-sensorial, child-centered, self-directed, developmental approach, she added.

Ms. Bathan said the school launched the new branding during a recital dubbed Tatak CPMS: The Hakuna Matata Journey to showcase the creative skills and talents the students developed and honed, to recognize and celebrate those students, employees, teachers, and administrative staff who embody the core values of the school, and thank the parent volunteers who have significantly contributed to the positive impact on the entire CPMS community throughout the school year.

“It is not merely a performance. It's a celebration of the process, the Hakuna Matata journey each member of the CPMS community undertakes throughout the year. It's about recognizing the progress and growth of each student, parent, family, employee, consultant, and partner through the rich, varied, relevant, minor, and major encounters and experiences in CPMS. This is how we are propelling to becoming a CREATIVE INTENTIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY,” she pointed out.

The performances include plays, choir singing, Rondalla, Arnis, and a cultural dance. During the preparation for the recital, students applied the knowledge and skills from school. It is in providing them opportunities like this that they further learn time management, dealing with pressure, and collaboration with schoolmates and teachers, Ms. Bathan said.

The significance of this journey goes beyond the stage. It allows children to shine, discover their potential, and develop essential life skills. Through practices, challenges, and unwavering support, they become confident and responsible individuals ready to face the world.

Through Tatak CPMS, the school showcases the essence of holistic education. It's about preparing children for the complexities and ambiguities of the 21st century—building emotional intelligence, resilience, and grit.

What sets CPMS apart is its commitment to inclusivity. Children of diverse needs are given equal opportunities to participate, contribute, and excel. The school's philosophy revolves around nurturing intrinsic motivation, cultivating natural interests, and fostering a sense of accomplishment beyond mere medals or accolades.

Ms. Catherine Cusi, who has a child enrolled at CPMS expressed appreciation for the school’s holistic approach to education. She also welcomed the holding of the recital.

“The recital, which is entitled Hakuna Matata, is a strong expression of the creativity of Montessori education,” Ms. Cusi said. “I've been with this school since 2013, and through the years, it established its core values, its I-CREATE principles. And I'm fortunate and grateful for Teacher Maribeth, for the CPMH team,” Ms. Cusi said.

She added that all the children were given freedom in creativity, in expression, and arts. “I strongly believe that, through the strong foundation, they could express their thoughts and feelings. The Montessori education has equipped and prepared the youth for a better future” Ms. Cusi said.

CPMS also presented awards to students, employee circle officers, parent volunteers, and service awardees.

The Employee of the Year award was given to Teacher Jackelyn Alfar-Fajardo, the CPMS Montessori Inclusion Director. She is honored and celebrated for her exceptional dedication, profound impact, and unwavering commitment to the school community.

The TATAK CPMS Awards were also given to ICREATE Awardees, EXCELLENCE Awardees, Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) delegates, and CULTURE BUILDERS.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Bathan explained the significance of Tatak CPMS. “The impact of TATAK CPMS: The Hakuna Matata Journey has been profound and transformative. We have seen our children—and even the adults—grow in self-efficacy and self-confidence.”

She added that this collective journey enriched lives and strengthened the community spirit.
“By complementing and contributing to each other, we have achieved greater learning and growth. CPMS is evolving into a vibrant, creative, and intentional learning community. Hakuna Matata means no worries for the rest of your days—let’s continue this journey with joy and confidence. Let's carry this fulfillment, joy, and gratitude forward.”

Cebu Chamber espouses collaborations and partnerships in promoting Cebu as investment destination

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Jay Yuvallos calls for support from and collaboration with industry captains and various organizations to promote Cebu as an investment destination.

Yuvallos made this statement during the recent general membership meeting when the turnover and induction of Officers, Trustees, and Members were held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Cognizant on the Chamber’s vision as engine of Cebu’s business growth, Pres Jay underscored the commitment to boosting Cebu’s economy through deliberate partnerships and purposive collaborations among and within the members companies, fostering synergy with various groups, sub-cultures and communities for a globally competitive Cebu and its people.

Steadfast is our commitment with a clear vision to be the engine of Cebu's business growth towards global competitiveness through advocacy, strategic linkages, and fostering synergy. We are dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of our members and even beyond, propelling Cebu and its people into the global economy,” he said.

The current CCCI board has adopted a leadership agenda: LEAD, he said. “This agenda reflects the chamber’s mission and vision, which is clear to address the challenges we face and will continue to face as business leaders”.

The “L” refers to launching the Cebu brand ‘Invest in Cebu: Prosper in Paradise’ in June. This brand was decided after a series of consultations with branding experts and focus group discussions and interviews of various industry players and line agencies, the CCCI president explained.

“E refers to the engaging the whole community on a deeper level to ensure that every member’s voice is heard and value, fostering an inclusive environment for dialog and collaboration. Engagement is key,” he said. “A’ refers to active partnerships and ‘D’ means focusing on developing an innovative and creative culture in all business sectors and sub-sectors to add value through out-of-the-box thinking, embracing new ideas, overcoming challenges, and seizing opportunities.

The Cebu Chamber also plans to create legacy projects such as a showroom for small and medium businesses and the Cebu Investment Development Concierge Center (CIDCC). The proposed SME showroom will be set up at the Ground Floor of the Cebu Chamber Centre, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City.

Meanwhile, Immediate Past President Charles Kenneth Co expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support and steadfast dedication of our esteemed members, invaluable partners, and the entire CCCI team.

“Together, we have forged a path towards remarkable progress, laying the foundation for a future brimming with promise and prosperity for Cebu post-pandemic,” Mr. Co said.

He also cited various achievements during his term as CCCI president such as the flagship project: Cebu Business Mobilization (CBM) 2023.

“Under the vibrant theme "Cebu 'ta Bai! Moving Forward, Shaping the Future," showcased our strengths in tourism, entrepreneurship, creative entertainment, and ICT-BPM,” Mr. Co said.

Senator Raffy Tulfo, who inducted into office the new set of Cebu Chamber Officers and Board of Trustees, recognized the chamber’s collaborative, competitive, compassionate and inclusive characteristics in making Cebu’s economy thrive and prosper.

Since its inception in 1903, CCCI has seen Cebu through everything, from change of colonizers to wars, calamities, political revolutions, and a pandemic, Senator Tulfo said. He added that CCCI helped Cebuanos overcome various challenges by providing an ecosystem for economic growth and development.

“This includes a good working relationship with government agencies. CCCI kept the lines open with crucial government agencies and local government units that can address your concerns,” the senator pointed out.

A Meet and Match with Members session was also organized an hour before the GMM as avenue for networking and identify business opportunities for companies with similar interests, expand knowledge and professionalism and establish relationships with fellow business leaders and organizations.
