Seventeen—and another five—years later, I still get asked the same question: "What's the difference between podcast and radio?"
And I still answer it the same way I always have; that both are *PRIMARILY* audio content format types that are produced similarly, but it would take more effort to know the basics to be able to distinguish a crocodile from an alligator. (No idea why I would be saying the latter, but it somehow explains the former better for everyone asking anyway.)
But there is one thing I am sure of: Unless you know what you're doing, and you know where you're going, you *NEED* a producer (a.k.a. it could be us, darling).
If there's something about how podcasts and radio shows are broadcasted and distributed, they are (and will be) on the same page as music.
I call it, "audio consumables"; another content type commonly used to either entertain or inform a specific type of learner: AURAL.
And also unfortunately, these types of content are double-dipping within the same market-audience sauce as musical artists. And just like any digital content, platforms are now oversaturated with audio content types.
There are over 2.4 million shows with 5, 6x the number of episodes in each major production, so having at least someone knowledgeable, skillful, and/or experienced (a producer) involved in your show's early stages (concept & development), he/she/they would be able to help you distinguish and guide your brand of podcast and radio apart from your competitors.
Also, I'm just posting this to bring back my "credibility" as an Executive Producer-Presenter for podcasts, radio, and live events. 💅 As y'all know, I may BE SEEMINGLY KWAY-ZEE at times, pinching imaginary ni***es in thin air—literally, who *DOES* that?—, but now, I have finally become IT. (What. A. Journey!)
I know the discipline,
I respect the discipline,
and I breathe the discipline.
And like experience, it comes with age and density.
And weight! I still have a "neck" in this photo, so I better be advertising that I used to have the "common, Tinder goods".
(Well, used to.)
