Vehicular accident in Castillejos leaves 1 dead, 5 injured

Castillejos, Zambales- A Victory Liner bus and a Toyota Fortuner collided along the National Highway in Barangay Del Pilar of this town on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the Castillejos Municipal Police Station and witnesses during the incident, the sports utility vehicle was northbound when it counter-flowed to the other lane that ended up ramming the public utility bus head on, killing one passenger and leaving four others injured including the driver. Said incident took place at 4:20 o'clock in the afternoon.

The driver of the silver metallic Toyota Fortuner was identified as Dante Paulo Ramos, a 66 year-old retired government employee and a resident of West Tapinac Olongapo City.

Also on-board the said vehicle were three unidentified passengers and a twenty-one year old nursing student identified as Juliana Ramos Darem who was immediately declared dead-on-arrival at the San Marcelino District Hospital.

Authorities identified the driver of the passenger bus as Arnold Escoto Atencio, 36 and a resident of Capas, Tarlac. Both drivers and the passengers of the SUV were brought to the hospital for treatment and observation.

The authorities are yet to estimate the amount of damage incurred from the collision while citizens applauded the Castillejos Emergency response team and the PNP for a swift action on the road mishap.
