"The Pen is mightier than the sword"

As 2025 is nearly in the house, let's not forget this significant date of December—the death of our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

Jose Rizal played a big role in our country's fight against Spanish Colonial rule. He wrote the two biggest books in Philippine history named "Noli me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" to wake filipinos and fight Espanol.

JOURNey of hardships and dedication

“Journalism is a work in progress, and not everyday is as good as the last,” a quotation from The Dispatch, which means journalism is always changing and improving.

Campus journalism is no different from knitting a scarf; it’s a process of careful, patient craft of truth by the aspiring student journalists. A process that requires effort and dedication to fulfill one’s goal. A journey wherein every storyteller has their very own stories to tell. Journey of drought and adequacy, where campus journalists find their comfort in writing, sharing stories that the public should know.

There is no denying that campus journalism is competitive. Student journalists often feel the need to be the best among their peers. Doing their best to capture their judges with their powerful articles. It is full of ups and downs. Sometimes the results don’t come in the way that journalists wanted them to, and sometimes the stars aligned for them. That is why journalism is a process of changing and improving. Changing, because there are moments of success but also failure. Improving, because those moments can teach valuable lessons. Lessons that journalists will carry onto their next JOURNey.

While it lingers through every journalist's mind that campus journalism is a competition, it is also an opportunity for them to enhance their journalistic skills. Pushing their ability to tell amazing stories. Even with all the challenges, campus journalists grow and learn from their experiences. Taking those moments of failure and success as they continue their journalistic desires. Campus journalism is not just all about winning a place; it’s about building their skills, confidence, and determination.

Inner Voice of Triumph

In a field of journalism where campus transformed into a haven for young storytellers, where dreams took flight, talents blossomed, and the spirit of journalism illuminated every corner. Amidst the crowd, siren noise emerged around the covered as Malacampa National High School once again bagged its name in the campus journalism, reclaiming the title that had been longed for, 2nd Overall Runner-Up in the Municipal Schools Press Conference 2024. Made even sweeter as it unfolded on their very own campus.

Months of preparation in this triumphant moment. Malacampa’s young journalists trained tirelessly under the guidance of their coaches, balancing academic responsibilities with their passion for campus journalism. Their commitment bore fruit as they excelled in categories both individual and group, securing a purse of points for the overall ranking.

The Inner Voice School Paper Adviser Kristina Soroten shared an inspiring message on how they mixed their recipe that cooked their success, "Hard work, dedication, passion, and faith. Yan ang meron sa mga campus journalists natin this year." For Soroten, these were the foundations that carried their campus journalists (CJs) in their well-deserved recognition as 2nd Overall Runner-Up.

The road to MSPC 2024 was a bumpy ride. It requires a balance between training and a shared commitment to it. As she added, “Getting ahead on the training schedule is vital to the overall performance of the CJs.” This allows each of the young journalists to enhance their skills and improvements.

Beyond the trophies and certificates, Soroten’s ultimate goal as a School Paper Adviser was to see her students fulfilled and proud of their journey. “Beyond this goal is seeing the student journalists feeling fulfilled, happy, and proud that they are part of this achievement—this MSPC JOURNey,” she remarked, emphasizing the value of experience over the outcome.

Furthermore, MSPC 2024 for MNHS was more than a competition; it was a key for collaboration and the power of stories. The victory serves as a reminder that success is not defined solely by rankings but by the growth and joy found along the way.

The MSPC 2024 JOURNey may have ended, but for Malacampa National High School, this is only the beginning of a brighter chapter in their story in campus journalism.
