𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | Calbayog Declares State of Calamity Amid Rising Dengue Cases

The Sangguniang Panglunsod of Calbayog, in its session on August 21, 2024, has officially declared the entire city under a state of calamity through Resolution No. 433, Series of 2024. This declaration comes after the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council recommended urgent action following a dengue outbreak, as identified by the Local Health Board.

Over the past 33 weeks, Calbayog has recorded 422 cases of dengue—a staggering 508.43% increase from the 83 cases documented in the same period last year. Alarmingly, 249 of these cases emerged in just the last five weeks, between July 14 and August 17, 2024, representing 59% of the year’s total cases.

The outbreak has already claimed two lives during morbidity weeks 32 and 33, adding to the growing concern among public health officials.

Residents are strongly advised to implement preventive measures, including the removal of potential mosquito breeding sites, and to seek medical assistance immediately if they exhibit symptoms of dengue.

Malacañang has rescheduled this year's observance of Ninoy Aquino Day to August 23, marking it as a special non-working day. This gives us an extended academic break leading up to National Heroes Day on Monday, August 26.

According to Proclamation No. 665, s. 2024, the adjustment is designed to offer us a longer weekend to promote domestic tourism, all while preserving the historical significance of the commemoration.

𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗟 | 𝗛𝗬𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗 𝘃𝘀. 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟

With the Collegiate Supreme Student Council (CSSC) Election just around the corner, a new debate has taken the center stage. As technology continues to advance, a crucial decision for the Christi Regians has set to be made, should we move forward with a hybrid voting system or stick to the traditional methods we've used for years? Each method offers certain advantages and drawbacks, making it essential to carefully consider both sides before making a choice.

A hybrid voting system or HVS, is a combination of online voting and traditional ballots. One of the main advantages of this method is its ability to make voting more accessible and convenient. For students who might have tight schedules or a day with no scheduled class, online voting offers a convenient alternative. This ease of access aims to lead the election with higher participation, ensuring that a larger number of the students has a say in the upcoming election.

Flexibility is another key advantage of the hybrid voting system. It allows students to choose the voting method that suits them best, whether they prefer the convenience of online voting or the experience of casting a ballot personally. For those students who are considered tech-savvies, voting online can be a quick and simple process.

Furthermore, counting and organizing of votes will be easier and much more efficient when it comes to online voting.

However, the hybrid system isn’t without its drawbacks. Security is a major concern, as digital voting platforms could be prone to hacking or fraud. Protecting the integrity of the election requires strong cybersecurity measures – “May nangyari ngang dayaan noong National election, sa school pa kaya”— as mentioned by a college coordinator. Additionally, not all students may feel comfortable with online voting, potentially creating a barrier for some. For instance, students who are not well-acquainted with technology, those in areas with slow internet connections, and the potential scenario where students need assistance regarding the format and layout of the online forms used for voting could present hindrances.

Online voting is nothing new in executing elections. In fact, during the 2022 CSSC Election amidst the pandemic, the COMELEC launched the first-ever online voting for the election. By utilizing the internet and Google Forms, Christi Regians cast their votes online. However, for a first attempt at online voting, errors and challenges were unavoidable. A number of votes were considered null and void due to duplication of email addresses and casting multiple votes for a candidate. With this history of fraud, there is concern that similar issues could arise again if the Hybrid Voting System is used for the upcoming election.

On the other side, Traditional Voting Methods offer a tried-and-true approach that many students trust. This method carry a sense of responsibility and participation that can make the process feel more meaningful.

Unlike HVS, security is a strong point for traditional voting. With paper ballots and in-person voting, the risk of cheating and tampering are minimized. The controlled environment of a polling station helps maintain the election’s integrity, reducing the chances of fraud. Additionally, traditional methods are familiar to most students, making the process straightforward which reduces mistakes.

However, traditional voting does have its downsides. Accessibility can be an issue, especially for students with packed schedules or those who don’t have a class schedule during the election. The need to be physically present at a polling place could discourage some from voting, potentially lowering turnout among students with busy schedules.

As the CSSC election draws near, deciding between a hybrid voting system and traditional methods is more than just a matter of convenience or efficiency—it’s about shaping the future of how Christi Regians participate in the democratic process. Both approaches have their advantages and drawbacks, and the choice will depend on what we prioritize -- the convenience and accessibility of digital platforms, or the security of in-person voting.

The CKC COMELEC plays a vital role in this decision. By giving clear information and helping students understand their options, they can ensure that everyone makes an informed choice that reflects the collective needs of the students.

Ultimately, whether we adopt a hybrid system or continue with tradition, the most important thing is that every student has the chance to participate in the upcoming election. Our vote is our voice, and it’s essential that we, Christi Regians, all make it count.

𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Today, August 14, 2024, under the leadership of Dr. Rowena R. Diaz, the Office of the Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) convened a comprehensive meeting with all student organizations. The meeting brought together groups from the Institute of Teacher Education (ITE); Institute of Accountancy, Management, Computer, and Information Studies (IAMCIS); Institute of Nursing, Allied Health, Social, and Behavioral Sciences (INAHSBS); as well as other non-institutional organizations like the College Supreme Student Council (CSSC) and the school’s college student publication, The Scepter. The primary focus was on this year’s planning for the institutional program and the highly anticipated CSSC Election 2024.

The meeting’s agenda included several critical components. Firstly, the Institutional Orientation Program was discussed in depth, laying out the groundwork for the upcoming academic year. This program aims to ensure that all students are well-acquainted with their environment, resources, and the opportunities available to them. Following this, a detailed discussion was held on task assignments, covering technical aspects, registration, Zumba session, EMCEE responsibilities, and the coordination of intermission numbers.

In addition to these, a significant part of the meeting was dedicated to the application and renewal of registration for academic, non-academic, and religious organizations. This segment is crucial as it ensures that all student bodies are officially recognized and can operate effectively within the institution. The collaborative efforts of all attendees and their commitment to the institution’s success promise an engaging and fruitful academic year for all the Christi Regians.

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 | Starting today, August 12, all students at every level must wear the prescribed uniform and follow proper grooming standards. This follows the guidelines outlined in the student handbook under "General Guidelines on Wearing Prescribed Uniform and Proper Grooming at All Levels."

New, first-year, and transferee students who do not yet have their school uniforms are required to wear a plain white shirt until they can wear the prescribed uniform by Friday, September 13, 2024. Students undergoing on-the-job training must wear their institutional uniforms when entering the school premises.

Additionally, P.E. and NSTP uniforms should only be worn during scheduled P.E. or NSTP classes.

Christ the King College’s Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced its new members yesterday through an official Facebook post by the Collegiate Supreme Student Council (CSSC).

The newly appointed team, composed of students from various institutes, will be responsible for enforcing and implementing the CKC election code and guidelines. The team is led by the new COMELEC Chairman, Angeilyn P. Antivo, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, and is supported by new commissioners from different departments.

This newly formed CKC COMELEC will oversee the upcoming Collegiate Supreme Student Council Election (eleCSSCion) scheduled for August 27, 2024, ensuring a fair and just election process.

Moreover, the COMELEC urges all students to actively participate in the election process, either by voting or by running for a position. They believe that student participation is key to shaping the college's future and building a strong sense of leadership and responsibility within the Christ the King College.

This in-service training was provided to all teaching personnel in preparation for the upcoming classes, centered around the theme '𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙜𝙮: 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩.'

We have witnessed the hardships and journeys of our fellow Christi Regians paying off in the most special way – all in a single day. On June 10th, 2023, the class of 2023 bid farewell to their Alma Mater, Christ the King College. 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦| The night was filled with sparkling dresses as attendees entered the royal-themed setting. Administrators, clinical instructors, student nurses, and the 100% passers of the recently held Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE) attended the event. 𝙁𝙊𝙇𝙆𝘿𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀 𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙋𝙀𝙏𝙄𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 | 𝙃𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙇𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏𝙎 As the final beats echoed through the gymnasium, cheers erupted, recognizing the winner — Unit 1 showcased their best performance. Participants donned traditional Filipino attires representing different regions and cultures of the Philippines. The rhythmic footwork and intricate hand movements mesmerized the audience, transporting them to a celebration of heritage and identity, embracing a Christi Regian value.
