IF YOUR THEOLOGY MAKES YOU MORE RUDE, UNFORGIVING, AND PRIDEFUL, CHECK YOUR HEART.
Theology essentially is the study of God. It is the study of the Word of God and how it can be applied to our lives. The aim of theology (and all Bible study) is to see our sinfulness and to see the greatness of God. In the end, right theology will lead to right living -- which means, correct theology will lead to maturity, and ultimately, Christ-like character.
Now, tapatan tayo. Heart check. Wag mong isipin yung ibang tao habang binabasa mo ito. Just reflect. This is between you and the Lord.
You have the right theology? Great! Praise God for that.
Now, let's check your
- speech? Is it gracious? Is it "seasoned with salt?" (Colossians 4:6)
Baka naman right theology -- pero rude magsalita.
May the Lord give us the RIGHT words in the RIGHT time in the RIGHT forum as we become channels of grace and truth through words.
- social media posts. Yes, kasama rin ang FB. Are we good ambassadors here? Are we sowing more of His words and truth, or are we sowing anger and hate?
- family. Baka naman you had the right theology -- pero napabayaan na ang family. Isa sa mga requirements ng pagiging elder ay good family relationships (see 1 Timothy 3)
- finances. Baka naman good ang theology -- pero pagdating sa finances, di maayos.
- relationship with others. Baka naman may "superiority complex" na tayo. Baka naman may "holier than thou" or "self-righteous" attitude na tayo. Or baka unforgiving tayo.
At the end of the day, theology must humble us. Humble us that we are sinners saved by His grace, not by our own efforts. Sa Diyos ang lahat ng kapurihan!
