House Bill No. 11108, which seeks to declare Cagayan de Oro as the “Whitewater Rafting Capital of the Philippines,” has been approved on third and final reading today, January 14, 2025. The bill aims to officially recognize the city’s status as a premier destination for year-round whitewater rafting. It also proposes including Cagayan de Oro in the Department of Tourism’s national and regional promotion programs to further highlight the city to adventure-seeking tourists.

PROJECT WATCH: Manresa Town as of January 2025

Earthworks are in full swing for the 14.3-hectare Manresa Town, a mixed-use development by Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) located in Uptown Cagayan de Oro. This project will integrate residential, commercial, and lifestyle spaces, creating a vibrant township. Meanwhile, the first residential condominium in the development, named One Manresa Place, will feature three 3 residential towers with 940 units. It will be launched soon.

Laguindingan Airport operations back to normal after Control Tower momentarily loses power, communication due to lightning strike

Laguindingan Airport’s Control Tower momentarily lost power and communication after a lightning strike on Friday night, January 10, 2025, which was successfully intercepted by the tower’s lightning arrester. Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Area Manager Job de Jesus confirmed the incident in an interview with Magnum Radyo. The strike caused a minor delay for a Cebu-bound flight, but airport operations have since resumed without further issues.

VIDEO WATCH: Cellphone snatcher caught in Cagayan de Oro

A few days into the New Year, a man was caught by bystanders after snatching a cellphone along Osmeña Street in Cagayan de Oro City. The incident occurred last Saturday, January 4, at around 10:00 AM. Witnesses reported that the suspect had accomplices who managed to escape the scene. RANDOM SHOTS: RCB, police catch groups having drinking sessions near CDO Convention Center

The Inspectorate Team of Cagayan de Oro City’s Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) issued rdinance violations receipts (OVRs) to several individuals caught drinking at Sitio Taguanao, Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City late Friday evening, January 3. They were found violating City Ordinance No. 5133, which prohibits the consumption of liquor in public places. Acting on reports from residents about minors drinking near the Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center – often leading to littering and brawls, the team intervened. After issuing the OVRs, the individuals were sent home.

VIDEO WATCH: Wife catches cheating husband at CDO mall; videos go viral

The year 2024 ended with heartbreak for a wife who caught her husband with another woman at a mall in Cagayan de Oro. In a now-viral Facebook post, netizen Belle Rico-Buhion shared videos of the incident, stating she traveled to the city on October 11, 2024, to surprise her husband ahead of their baby’s first birthday on October 13. Instead, she was shocked to see him with another woman on the mall’s walkalator. She confronted her husband, who works at a BPO company located in the mall, and slapped him several times outside the establishment drawing attention from the public.

In her post, Belle revealed that she noticed her husband carrying the woman’s bag while the woman, who appeared to be his co-worker, was holding the keys to his motorcycle.

Belle shared that she also confronted the woman, a single mother, who ultimately agreed to end her involvement with Belle’s husband and resign from her job.

A Christmas gift for the elderly – Senior citizens can now avail of their 20% discount on medicines without the need to present a purchase booklet. This after Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa signed Administrative Order (AO) No. 2024-0017, which removes the booklet requirement, making the process more convenient. This amendment updates provisions of AO No. 2010-0032 and AO No. 2012-0007, ensuring easier access to this benefit.

Delivery truck carrying cartons of milk overturns in Alubijid, MisOr

With the busy holiday season bringing an increase in deliveries, vehicle safety is crucial. A driver and his companions escaped injuries when their delivery truck overturned along the National Highway in Lanao, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental Sunday morning, December 22. The accident occurred when one of the truck’s tires reportedly burst. The vehicle was loaded with several cartons of canned milk at the time of the incident.
