PBBM: Stronger BARMM means stronger Philippines

COTABATO CITY—President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. asserted that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is an integral part of the success and development of the whole Philippines.

"The Bangon Pilipinas is incomplete without a Bangsamoro rising along within it [...] A stronger BARMM means a stronger Mindanao. A stronger Mindanao means a stronger Philippines, bringing us closer to achieving our agendas," he stressed during the 17th Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB) meeting on February 8, in Pasay City.

President Marcos and BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim mentioned that they are “one” with the interventions on implementing the peace accords and uplifting the lives of the Bangsamoro amidst plans for the secession of Mindanao from the rest of the Philippines.

“We are acting with dispatch not because of the deadlines that we have set for ourselves but because people battered by war for years should not be denied their destiny to live in peace,” Pres. Marcos said.

The President further shared that the success in bolstering the economy of the Bangsamoro region through active collaboration with different agencies increased investments and employment across the BARMM.

Chief Minister Ebrahim remarked, “The paramount objective for the Bangsamoro government remains – the establishment of an autonomous region that is functional, ready, and thriving in an ever-changing and competitive society.”

“In alignment with the national government’s vision for a Bagong Pilipinas, rest assured of our unwavering partnership and commitment, In Shaa Allah,” he added.

Among the triumphs mentioned were the exchanged diplomatic notes with the Japanese Government for the acquisition of $6.8 million worth of construction equipment for road network improvement and disaster quick response operation in BARMM; signed guidelines of service contracts that guarantee energy security; and the Bangsamoro Board of Investments’ (BBOI) generation of Php3.3 billion worth of investments, which will employ 1,927 workers, during the last quarter of 2023.

Mohagher Iqbal, the IGRB co-chair, stressed that the strides made through effective and productive leadership ensured success in finding political solutions to the decades-long armed conflict in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

“While in many parts of the world, the most seasoned of political leaders are scrambling to end the wars in their midst, we, in the Philippines and the Bangsamoro, are reaping the fruits of our sincerity, mutual esteem, and determination to make the lives of our people better,” Iqbal underscored.

He also emphasized that what seemed unthinkable and amounted to bureaucratic nightmares are now realities that have become normal and par for the course of Bangsamoro governance.

Under Section 2, Article VI of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), the IGRB aims to coordinate and resolve intergovernmental relations issues between the National and the Bangsamoro government through regular consultation and negotiation.

IGRB Co-chair Secretary Amenah Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) stated that the concerted efforts of both parties resulted in making Mindanao exemplify peace and development in the entire Philippines.

“We will not leave our future vulnerable to threats that will undermine the developments that we have painstakingly pushed,” Pangandaman continued.

“Rest assured that we will continue to endeavor to turn Mindanao from a land of promise into a land of promises fulfilled,” she said. (BIO/PIA Lanao del Sur)

Cebuana Lhuillier Elevates Commitment to Empowering Filipinos Through Alternative Learning Program

Jean Henri Lhuillier and Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. (CLFI) reaffirm their dedication to enhancing the lives of Filipinos through their impactful initiatives. At the forefront of this commitment is the Alternative Learning Program (ALS), a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd).
The company recognizes the imperative role of education in shaping competent and productive individuals. To achieve this, the Foundation has strategically positioned ALS Community Learning Centers (ALS-CLCs) across the country.

CLFI has successfully established 155 ALS-CLCs across 70 provinces and reached 60,000 learners, marking significant progress in its mission to address educational gaps and empower learners from various regions. But beyond these impressive figures, the ALS boasts a commendable 63.36% passing rate, a testament to its holistic approach and program offerings.
This success is fueled by the program’s comprehensive curriculum, coupled with the unwavering dedication of ALS educators, who receive full support from CLFI. The Foundation ensures that educators are equipped with the necessary resources and assistance to deliver quality education, further enhancing the impact of the program.

One of the ALS educators who exemplifies the positive impact of this support is Evie Madolid, an ALS Educator from Malabon. Madolid expressed deep gratitude for the invaluable assistance received from Cebuana Lhuillier, which fosters an environment where educators can inspire and guide learners effectively.
He said, “I’m very thankful to Cebuana Lhuillier for extending their help to the program, where they provided laptops, projectors, and other supplies that we can use to enhance the quality of our teaching."

“I feel so proud of my students and feel so fulfilled. They expressed their gratitude, saying that ALS has given them another chance to fulfill their dreams. Some of my students have reached out to me, sharing the good news of their achievements. I have a student who is now a police officer; some have become my co-teachers; others are now working abroad; and some have even started a small business. Finally, I can say that they really are successful,” he added.
This testament underscores Cebuana Lhuillier’s commitment not only to the learners but also to the educators, who play a pivotal role in shaping the success stories emerging from the ALS program. By providing comprehensive support, Cebuana Lhuillier ensures that ALS educators can continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of their students, creating a ripple effect of positive change within communities.

“Education has always been deeply personal advocacy for me. I believe that it holds the key to unlocking the full potential of individuals and communities alike. To achieve this, it is essential to prioritize the empowerment of educators. They are the backbone of our education system, guiding and inspiring the next generation of changemakers. At Cebuana Lhuillier, we work tirelessly to ensure that they are equipped to deliver the highest standards of education,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.

Cebuana Lhuillier continues to be a beacon of hope, championing education and empowerment through its ALS program. By addressing the unique needs of out-of-school youth and adults, the company is making significant strides in shaping a brighter future for communities across the Philippines.

WORK CAN MAKE ME HAPPY

By: Klaus Doring

Some of the squishiest aspects of a job are also the ones that make it most rewarding: the values held by your company and your co-workers. Research has shown, for example, that all over the world job satisfaction depends on a sense of accomplishment, recognition for a job well done, and work-life balance.

Employees who see their work as worthwhile are nearly 2.5 times happier than others – with research by Robert Half finding that it’s the biggest driver of happiness for people in the marketing and creative fields.

Of course, no employee is happy at work every single day, and even jobs you are passionate about can sometimes be frustrating or tedious. But if your career is something you generally enjoy and feel proud of, you are more likely to feel happy at work.

What makes people happy at work? There are seven major factors that make people happy: having a sense of purpose, feeling valued, the availability of wellness programs, feeling engaged, working in a collaborative environment, having flexibility, and being in a positive workplace culture.

Doing a job we enjoy and find satisfying can provide a meaningful focus for our lives, as well as bringing in an income. Our standard of living hinges on the money we make, while employment often contributes to our self-image and self-esteem. Work-related problems can affect our physical, emotional and mental health.

Employees tend to be happier and more hardworking when they are in a good working environment, for instance, being happy to work in a good working relationship. Group relationship is important and has effects on employees’ absenteeism and turnover rate.

Does work make you happy? Not so much if you’re in the developed world. Believe it or not.

“Why am I never happy with any job?!”: There are surprising reasons: You’re looking for happiness in all the wrong places. You’re looking for a job that makes you rich, not happy. You have a “good job” that you hate — but that you just can’t quit.

But wait, are you saying I’ll never be happy with any job??? Nope. In my turn I was happy with most of my jobs — seriously — even when things weren’t perfect. And it really came down to making sure my values matched the organizations and that I got the “perks” that were most important to me.

As a retiree at the age of 70, I have stayed in the Philippines now since 1999. I still enjoy writing, translating, and teaching. I just can’t sit in my tropical garden or on the beach under some palm trees.
