Scriptures for Working Moms
Consider these pieces of scripture when you are struggling with mom guilt, worry and anxiety, understanding your calling or purpose and trusting Godβs plan for your life and that of your family.
1. Isaiah 40:11
HE IS LIKE A SHEPHERD FEEDING HIS FLOCK, GATHERING HIS LAMBS WITH HIS ARM, CARRYING THEM AGAINST HIS CHEST, GENTLY LEADING THE MOTHER SHEEP.
The message: you donβt have to strive for perfection or some ideal work/life balance as a mom called to build a business or a career because you have a God who fills in the gaps. You arenβt doing this on your own.
2. Jeremiah 29:11
FOR I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU, DECLARES THE LORD, PLANS FOR PEACE AND NOT FOR EVIL, TO GIVE YOU A FUTURE AND A HOPE.
The message: God isnβt asking you to figure it all out; heβs asking you to trust that He already has.
3. Romans 8:28
AND WE KNOW THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.
The message: Your purpose? To do good. To serve using your unique gifts and talents as only you can because you were created on purpose, with purpose. And as you pursue the work youβre called to, you can trust Him. We know that in all things (both good and bad, pleasant and unpleasant β everything) βworks together for the bestβ (strongest translation), βfor those who love God.β Everything that we meet in life, everything, without exception, works together for our best. This means there is just as much purpose in our hardest days as working moms as on the days that feel lighter and more pleasant.
4. Colossians 3:23
WHATEVER YOU DO, WORK HEARTILY, AS FOR THE LORD AND NOT FOR MEN.
The message: In all your work, the work of motherhood, the work of marriage, your business or career, remember who you called to this work to glorify Him. What might change if you looked at folding laundry, making dinner, cleaning the floors, writing a blog post, responding to an email or serving a client as an opportunity for worship? If you struggle with parts of the work involved in any of the hats you wear, consider this perspective as it can bring joy to the mundane.
5. Proverbs 3:5-6
TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING; IN ALL YOUR WAYS SUBMIT TO HIM, AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT.
The message: You arenβt supposed to have all the answers or know all the things. With each day, each decision, each moment of uncertainty, trust God. Donβt try to figure everything out on your own. You were never meant to.
