HIV cases are on the rise, but it is no longer a life sentence. With proper treatment, which is available for free at all HIV hubs, people living with HIV (PLHIV) can lead healthy and fulfilling lives, just like those who are HIV-negative.

Through consistent treatment, PLHIV can achieve an undetectable viral load within 1-3 months. This means they cannot transmit the virus to others.

Unfortunately, those who avoid testing due to stigma and fear of judgment are often the ones unknowingly spreading the virus.

PLHIV can pursue regular jobs, work abroad, and even join the crew of ships or cruise liners.

Yes, HIV is no longer considered a terminal illness:

Treatable:
HIV is now a chronic disease that can be treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART). ART is a combination of at least three drugs that prevent the virus from replicating.

Long life expectancy:
People with HIV can live long and healthy lives if they get and stay on treatment.

Undetectable viral load:
If someone with HIV has been taking effective treatment and their viral load has been undetectable for at least six months, they cannot pass the virus on through s*x. This is called undetectable=untransmittable (U=U).

Access to testing:
Testing is widely available in most countries, and some countries offer self-testing.

Preventative treatments:
There are also preventative treatments available, such as PrEP and PEP. PrEP is 99% effective with daily use. PEP is a post-exposure prophylaxis medicine that prevents HIV after a possible exposure, but it must be started within 72 hours.

End the stigma. Get tested.
