Mateo 14, 13-21

Kumain silang lahat at nabusog.

GOSPEL 8-7-23

Matthew 14:13-21

When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” He said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over– twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL 8-6-23
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Matthew 17:1–9

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Jesus comes to us in whatever circumstances of change we find ourselves, touches us, and says, “Get up, be raised” It's the promise that though life has changed, it has not ended. New life is hidden in the midst of change, even when cannot see it.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 8-5-23

Matthew 14:1-12

Herod the tetrarch heard of the reputation of Jesus and said to his servants, “This man is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why mighty powers are at work in him.”

Now Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, for John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Although he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, for they regarded him as a prophet. But at a birthday celebration for Herod, the daughter of Herodias performed a dance before the guests and delighted Herod so much that he swore to give her whatever she might ask for. Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and the guests who were present, he ordered that it be given, and he had John beheaded in the prison. His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. His disciples came and took away the co**se and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: The example of John the Baptist leaves no middle ground for his followers, either they are for him or against him… his demand is obvious and without compromise. Hence, we must make the right choice and let us ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit to fill our heart and mind with love and truth of GOD.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 8-4-23

Matthew 13:54-58

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.” And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Many of these people would have known Jesus from His youth, and they know His earthly family. They made the mistake of thinking that they knew everything about Him, they had come to their conclusions. But what they did not know is that Christ is transformed by GOD at His right age. It is baffling to record that, for a period of thirty years, the Son of Man did not appear to be anything other than a man. In bringing our lives before GOD, we ask GOD to enlighten us, to help us can look at our situations afresh. When we come to conclusions, it may be difficult to go forward.

GOSPEL 8-2-23

Matthew 13:44-46

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: When we discover the Kingdom of GOD we receive the greatest possible treasure – the Lord Himself. The man who finds the treasure does not simply take it. Instead, he hides again, sells everything he has, and buys the field in order to get the treasure it contains.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 8-1-23

Matthew 13:36-43

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Lord Jesus, take possession of our world – our hearts and our lives – so that ‘the evil one’ may not have any power over us.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

To GOD be the Glory forever🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 7-19-23

Matthew 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Jesus is basically saying that only those who are childlike can encounter GOD. This is because those who are childlike are free from bias. Those who are childlike are humble. So often it is ourselves, specifically our pride that prevents us from knowing GOD. Jesus sets our minds on things above. GOD always remains faithful, able and good. We can trust Him and it benefits His children to be grateful. Also, a thankful heart is a contented heart.

GOSPEL 7-13-23

Matthew 10:7-15

Jesus said to his Apostles:
“As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. Whoever will not receive you or listen to your wordsB go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet. Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of S***m and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: I pray, Lord, that I may not cling to material things instead more to your providential presence in my life and every decision I make. Help me to place all my hope and trust in you – for your love and generosity are never outdone.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 7-10-23

Matthew 9:18-26

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, “My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples. A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.” Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.” And from that hour the woman was cured.

When Jesus arrived at the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion, he said, “Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they ridiculed him. When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand, and the little girl arose. And news of this spread throughout all that land.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: The local official takes one more step closer to full depth of belief. He is content to plead for healing for a person (his daughter) who doesn’t even happen to be present – a request for ‘long distance’ healing. And so he is held up to us as a unique model of believing.

Thank You, Lord🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

GOSPEL 7-8-23

Matthew 9:14-17

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth, for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse. People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Jesus invites us to live the present and follow His teachings. We should focus on His teachings to avoid confusion and we should not waste so much time and energy feeling sorry for the missed opportunities of the past, or getting anxious about the future. Yet the present is all we possess, so let us be grateful for what we have now and live it as fully as we can.

Mateo 9, 1-8
