“GINTONG TALA: Star of Hope, Lighting the Lives of Fisherfolk”

The parol entry is a design concept that represents the naturally vibrant colors of the province—green and yellow—and draws inspiration from the flourishing fishery industry in Nueva Vizcaya.
Various recycled materials, each with a symbolic meaning are combined to construct the parol.
Displayed with pride, the anchor, which stands for the Bureau's unwavering steadfastness in upholding its mandate to consistently assist and support marginalized fisherfolk in the hope of a prosperous and better tomorrow.
The fish (Tilapia) and fishing net interlaced on the center represents bountiful harvest and symbolizes abundance, success and prosperity in the landlocked province of Nueva Vizcaya. Just like the deep and vast ocean, the jellyfish and stingray shape, symbolizes unity, harmony and cultural diversity. Holding it up are the Bakki/kawayan and ropes, which signifies the strength and solid ties between PFO Vizcaya and its fisherfolk.
PFO Nueva Vizcaya is transforming not just ordinary materials into extraordinary and spectacular work of art but as well as empowering the lives of fisherfolk.

LOOK | Today, November 16, 2022, the DA-BFAR R02 orients about 16 market workers of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino Province on Fisheries Administrative Order No. 195, 259 and other food safety protocols for fish and fishery products.

The FAO No. 195 or the 𝑅𝑢𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑒𝑔𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝐺𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐼𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐹𝑟𝑒𝑠ℎ/𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑑/𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑧𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐹𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝐴𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑠 was effectively implemented on October 25, 1999 in line with the government's “intent of adopting a flexible policy towards the attainment of food security; in response to the emerging trends in the trade of fish and other aquatic products in domestic and international markets; in recognition of the need to ensure food safety on imported fish and fishery/aquatic products.”

The orientation aims to inform the market vendors on the prohibited imported frozen/chilled fish and aquatic products such as but not limited to pompano, whole round squid, salmon head and belly from being sold in the local markets. Said products should only reach Institutional Buyers (IBs) such as canneries, restaurants and fish processing plants as stated in the order.

Said orientation activity was graced by Dr. Emma L. Ballad, Head of the Regional Fisheries Inspection and Quarantine Section (RFIQS), Mr. Sherwin D. Buguina, Head of the Fishery Law Enforcement Group (FLEG), Dr. Jefferson K. Soriano, Focal Person on Food Safety, Mr. Leo S. Palolan, Provincial Fishery Officer of Nueva Vizcaya, Mr. Christopher B. Casco, Provincial Fishery Officer of Quirino and other BFAR staff.
