EHRA-mazing pupil!
By Ehra Xyrelle Irada

Since COVID-19 strikes, pupils could no longer be outside their home. Pupils get easily bored because they play, they cannot mingle with other children and most of all they cannot go to school. So some focus on gadgets and keep playing with it.

Sometimes, studying is not their priority because of their gadgets.
But for “small but terrible” 11 years old grade 5 pupil, boredom is not on her vocabulary because she has a lot of things to do at home. This new normal, she have her own way to break the ice over the effects of the new face of education.

“This pandemic, children are easily bored with the setup at home. We are under modular learning delivery so I have to do my module simultaneously with my household chores. I have to look up my 6th month old sister, be a seller of our mini-store and a student. All of those things ease my boredom while at home.” stated Ehra, a grade 5-pupil.

“At the start of the day, I have to wake up early to help my mother prepare our breakfast. After helping my mother, I need to be a baby sitter for my little sister until 6:30 in the morning. Then I will prepare my things to do my modules in each subjects. I divided my number of hours for each subjects as listed with our Weekly Home Learning Plan. I have to do my modules with myself because my mother have to take care of our baby.” exclaimed Ehra.

In the afternoon, she have to focus look also at their store while doing her module. She have to be a seller and at the same time a student while doing it simultaneously.
“Exhausted but happy.” as she smiled at me. Those two words described her as a young one but taking all the responsibilities that she have as of today was so meaningful. Being small in height as a grade 5 pupil doesn’t really matter at all.

“I am young, yes, yet I really feel so big with all my accomplishments everyday. Today, some children have a lot of freedom to do what they want. For me, it is more than freedom because I use my time wisely. Boredom no more, with happy thoughts on everything I do, I am amazing” said Ehra happily.
Ehra is a good example of pupil, a daughter and a citizen this time of new normal. Her talents, her positive vibes really inspired other pupils like her. Let us be EHRA-mazing!

It’s a No!
By Amaya Hope L. Balitaan

“Almost 85% of the parents said No to face-to-face classes based from the result of our survey to parents last November 19” stated by TES school principal, Mrs. Jenny-vi B. Dimaano.

It means that parents, still, are not in favour to implement face-to-face classes in the school on the next school year.

Parents are not yet move on with the effects of pandemic. They are afraid that their children’s life might be risky if they allow them to join the pilot face-to-face classes if ever the entire region will implement it. They also insisted that the threat of Omicron variant is present although the country do not have a record yet.

Based from the data released by Palakat Batangas City, almost 18 active cases and 10 suspects were recorded since December 6 of this year. This proves that parents cannot be blamed by saying “No” for face-to-face classes because the city still have active cases and suspects. Other near barangays like Tabangao Ambulong also recorded 1 active case so parents are really protecting the lives of their children against COVID-19.

With the gathered data disseminated to the parents, they are informed that not all teachers are 100% fully vaccinated because one of the personnel was pregnant. It was confirmed by Dimaano that only 94% of the school personnel are fully vaccinated on her virtual general assembly with parents last September 15. This data gave another reason for parents to vote for No during the survey since teachers are not yet ready to mingle to their pupils for not all are 100% fully vaccinated.

Parents have the right to say No for the pilot face-to-face classes for now because of their reasons and only one goal-to protect the lives of their children against COVID-19 and the new variant Omicron spreading on the other countries.

This issue is another call for our government and DEpEd to pursue their actions this pandemic. Parents, teachers and especially learners like us should be protected. Let us help the government by following safety health protocols, support their programs against the COVID-19 and have discipline on taking our actions. All of these things will help us to make our No to YES!

Music therapy improves mental health
By Liana Antonia E. Gonzales

Based from DOGO news, America’s Top Young scientist, Sarah Park, wants to use music therapy especially for those struggling with mental health. Playing violin since she was 4, the 13-year old noticed its positive effect on those around her, especially her grandmother, who suffered from a mental health illness.

Park, a middle schooler of Jacksonville Florida, was known for her invention Spark Care+ which requires participants to respond to a series of questions based on the Hamilton Anxiety and Depression Scale, designed to assess the person's mental state.

Inspired by Park’s invention, TES pupil also proved that music is a good therapy this pandemic. Since pupils also experienced depression and mental health, Lois Ancel, a grade four-pupil also agreed on this matter. The 10-year old pupil plays ukulele since pandemic.

“I really felt bored and depressed while doing my module since pandemic strikes. I have to do my module the whole day and it was a hard part for me. I couldn’t adapt easily with the effect of new normal. So I have to think of recreational activity that I love most which is playing musical instrument” said Lois.

Her mother Ea also noticed the mood swings of her child. But when she allowed him to play instrument, the stress was lessen. He had another alternative way to break boredom, stress and depression.

He was so moody this pandemic. He didn’t want to do his module and always complaining. But when he asked me to have him ukulele to play, I supported him. Playing instrument was his hobby while singing. As I noticed with him, he controlled his mood now unlike before and started to go on with his module.” stated Ea, a parent of two.

TES “Trip to Read” strengthens reading goal and implementation
By Liana Antonia E. Gonzales

Trip to Read or Byaheng Pabasa of Tabangao Elementary School was intensified as school reading program after achieving District 2 Gawad Tagumpay’s School’s Best Reading Implementer last November 15.

The school principal, Jenny-vi B. Dimaano initiated to pursue the reading program for the whole school year to come up with a better result and maintain the success of it. Through the collaboration of teachers, more volunteers are invited to engage with the program. Volunteers also suggested to donate more reading materials to utilize during the program.

“Trip to Read as school reading program served as an accomplishment so we decided to boost it and continue its purpose and goal which is to reduce the number of struggling readers. We have to upgrade it through continuously implementing it because it was intended to run only for 20 days as part of Brigada Pabasa. So pursuing it as a permanent school reading program was better to sustain its goal.” Dimaano stated.

TES school program Trip to Read (Byaheng Pabasa) was designed as Brigada Pabasa Project as part of Brigada Eskwela which was launched before the opening of classes. The said program involved Brigada volunteers, teachers and even parents to work collaboratively to help those struggling readers. It was a 20-day program which was implemented for 25 recipients. The concept of the program was volunteers together with the teachers would visit every sitio through jeepney which served as a reading pantry for volunteers and pupils. The said vehicle was also initiated by volunteers to utilize not just for transportation but also a reading site for the pupils, volunteers and teachers. Reading materials were produced by the teachers for their pupils and assisted volunteers during the implementation.

Through the initiative of the School Reading Coordinator, Mrs. Marilyn L. Espina, the project with the cooperation of other teachers was successfully launched and implemented. It was monitored by the school reading committee to come up with reliable and valid data and results with the utilization of localized monitoring tool for reading.

Gawad Tagumpay higlights the best performance of schools of District 2 this school year and awarded schools and teachers’ accomplishment spearheaded by District 2 Supervisor, Dr. Lea C. Aquino.

A Blessing
By Amaya Hope L. Balitaan

Tabangao Elementary School recorded 30% of the school enrolment are malnourished this school year. With this data, the school was very thankful for being one of the recipient of the local government’s feeding program.

As one of the recipient of SBFP, parents and pupils considered the program a blessing because of the food package that they have received every Friday for two months. Almost 150 beneficiaries were benefited by the said program which was started last November.

TES parents and children were supplied by milk, fruits, eggs and vegetables to sustain the needs of their body and avoid malnutrition.

“We were very thankful for the local government and even the school for having this kind of feeding program. It was very timely because many families are suffering from poverty especially this pandemic. We were blessed that our needs, specially the nutrition of our children are given an emphasis.”, stated Jennifer Almario, a parent recipient of two.

“As one of the beneficiary of the SBFP, I was so happy to receive food packs every Friday. It really helped me as a learner to go on our module every day. I am so thankful to the school, and teachers who worked together to give us our food packs.”, said Carla, a grade 6 pupil recipient.

Through the unwavering support and collaboration of our local government and Deped, School Based Feeding Program is considered 100% success. Kudos to all who pushed this program. It was totally a BIG BLESSING for all!
