Remrel Dizon, an aspiring online freelancer, is a returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who aims to continue earning while in the comfort of his home and at the same time get to spend more time with family. Remrel has spent at least two decades being employed in a private company in Palau, an island country in the Pacific. His job included doing the payroll, receivables and payables, maintainin
g the books of the company, costing of company products and administrative assistant work. As a long-tenured employee, Remrel has demonstrated that the work environment is stable and secure. This improves the morale of other employees especially the new ones who are seeking stability. During his years of service with the company, Remrel developed extensive knowledge of the company operations and the way things are done, as well as skills that made him very dependable at work. Remrel has become an important figure in the company. He has not only earned the respect and trust of his co-workers but also that of his employers. He has been given salary increments and generous bonuses as well. As Remrel became familiar with his job, he was able to spare some time to help co-workers in the restaurant and bakery whenever there are huge orders for big events. Contrary to some opinions that staying with one company for a long time may prevent you to grow, Remrel’s familiarity with the day-to-day operations of the company has allowed him to do activities even outside the four walls of his office. Remrel’s predictable schedule in his regular job contributed to the improvement of his well-being as he was also able to do coaching task for a basketball team. This other responsibility, which he was also passionate about, has further improved his planning skills, communication skills, leadership and discipline. Aside from being fun and empowering, coaching also helped Remrel improve his analytical thinking skills, allowing him to think fast for solutions when challenges arise whether in sports or at work. With all the knowledge and skills Remrel acquired throughout the years he was working abroad, he is well-honed to venture into different tasks. At present, Remrel is joining training by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to gain more knowledge about social media managing.
