DEPED AURORA CONDUCTS SCHOOLS DIVISION TRAINING ON MATATAG CURRICULUM FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS

OCTOBER 14 – Private school teachers, practice teachers, and instructors of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in the province of Aurora gathered at Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) Main Campus Covered Court to participate in a five-day training on MATATAG Curriculum.

The training officially began with the singing of the Philippine national anthem and an opening prayer. It was followed by the audio-visual presentations of Bagong Pilipinas Hymn and Aurora Hymn.

Participants marked the significant event with inspiring messages from Dr. Charlaw G. Quiben, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Curriculum and Implementation Division (CID) and Dr. Virginia Sacramento, Principal III of Basic Education Department (BED) of MCCB.

Mrs. Rosalind P. De Mesa, Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in English, expounded the “General Shape of the MATATAG Curriculum” and Dr. Jonalyn O. Colado, Education Program Supervision (EPS) in TLE, elaborated the “21st Century Skills in the MATATAG Curriculum.”

In the afternoon, participants were divided in accordance with their respective specializations. A resource speaker was assigned in every learning area to facilitate the detailed discussion on MATATAG Curriculum while also providing a set of activities for active participation and application of the key knowledge.

In accordance with the Schools Division Memorandum No. 280, series of 2024, the training was a support for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) MATATAG agenda, particularly in making the curriculum relevant to produce competent, job-ready, responsible, and active citizens. It highlighted the conduct of five-day live-out training for private school teachers and practice teachers from Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) on the MATATAG Curriculum, wherein it aims to provide professional development support to the concerned personnel and ensure that they have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the said curriculum.

BS CRIMINOLOGY PROGRAM HOLDS PINNING AND SEND-OFF CEREMONY FOR CLASS MASIDLAK 2024-2025

Amidst the relentless rain, BS Criminology Program of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) held pinning and send-off ceremony with the theme “Future Criminologist: Called to Serve for Justice and Lasting Peace,” October 12.

The first part of the program commenced with a paraliturgy led by Mia Jeselle Paulo, fourth year criminology student and president of Student Body Organization (SBO). Afterwards, Class Masidlak 2024-2025 of MCCB graced the ground with their silent drill exhibition and ceremonial parade. Proud parents were present and participated in the pinning ceremony, witnessing the moment where fourth year criminology students officially became criminology interns. Interns performed an entertaining dance, elevating the mood of the momentous event.

The second part of the program started with opening remarks from Mrs. Roselyn V. Obar, Program Dean of BS Criminology. Mrs. Obar challenged the interns to uphold integrity in exercising their duties and responsibilities. “We are confident that you will continue to represent our institution with honor, commitment, and dedication to the service of society,” Mrs. Obar emphasized during her speech.
Rev. Fr. John Anthony C. Losbañes, Secretary to the Executive Vice President, gave a short message and described the event as a powerful reminder of commitment and dedication to serve the community. Mrs. Heraldine S. Villamora, College Affairs Officer, also expressed her heartfelt message encouraging interns to let Carmelian spirit guide them to act with humility, seek truth with courage, and build peace with unwavering faith.

PMAJ Emilio B. Sison, acting chief of Provincial Operations and Management Unit (POMU) of Aurora Police Provincial Office, the guest speaker of the event, delivered an impactful and inspiring message addressing the main responsibilities of the interns. “As you embark on the path that requires both intellectual rigor and unwavering empathy, you must bear in mind that you are not just students. You are the future advocates of justice, stewards of truths, and voices for the voiceless,” PMAJ Sison highlighted in his speech.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to PMAJ Sison, to 307 Community Defense Center 3rd Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG), and to TSg Randy M. Molina, PA for rendering his service as trainer of criminology interns of MCCB.

Mr. Lowie M. Baoy, Internship Coordinator, gave closing remarks wherein he extended his greeting to the Class Masidlak 2024-2025. It was followed by a photo op which concluded the program.

BS CRIMINOLOGY PROGRAM HOLDS WELCOME AND RECEPTION RITES

The Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BS Crim) Program of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) held welcome and reception rites for first year BS Crim students at MCCB Extension Campus, August 27.

The program started with an opening prayer led by Ms. Asia Supremo, Peace Keeper Officer (PKO), followed by the singing of the Philippine national anthem.

Opening remarks were given by Mrs. Roselyn M. Vicente-Obar, Program Coordinator of BS Crim, wherein she gave her warm welcome to first year BS Crim students. Mrs. Obar read a quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” which she used to inspire freshmen as she emphasized that the event marked the beginning of their journey as Criminology students of MCCB.

Inspirational messages were delivered by Mr. Christian Evangelista and Mr. Lowie Baoy, BS Crim instructors, as they both extended their welcome to the freshmen and highlighted the importance of the reception rites.

The first part of the activity proceeded with the orientation proper conducted by Mrs. Obar where she discussed criminology and its nature, its goals and objectives, and the new curriculum of BS Criminology program. Souvenirs were given to first year students followed by the pledge of commitment led by Mr. Vaugn Andrei Carrasco, BS Crim Departmental Governor.

The highlight of the event started with Mr. Baoy introducing the set of activities for the reception rites which included warm-up exercises and obstacle course. Under the extreme heat of the sun, the reception rites were conducted with different physical activities with the assistance of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) students which tested the strength and endurance of BS Crim freshmen. The reception rites were also assisted by the fire officers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Baler.

As the event came to end, closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Jessie Dela Vega, criminology instructor. Mr. Dela Vega congratulated everyone and left a message to first year Crim students: “It is only the start of your journey, and before you quit, you should think about why you started because at the end of the day, you can make a positive impact to the society.”

The activity formally concluded with a closing prayer led by Ms. Megan Alcantara, PKO President.

The welcome and reception rites of BS Criminology program were spearheaded by the Peace Keeper Officer (PKO) Club with the guidance of their program coordinator and instructors.

MCCB WELCOMES NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

The Higher Education Department (HED) of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) officially started the new academic year with a welcome ceremony, August 12.

The event commenced with an opening prayer and the singing of the national anthem followed by the oath taking of new elected officers led by Mr. Steven Melvin II V. Delante, Program Coordinator of Bachelor of Arts (AB). Executive level officers of the previous academic year officially ended their reign as they turned over their positions and handed over their projects to the new set of executive level officers. Mr. Jay Mark Carbonel, former Student Body Organization (SBO) President, delivered a message wherein he extended gratitude to teachers and to his co-officers. He also encouraged students to lead and to have the courage to get out of their comfort zone.

Mrs. Ameurpina DL. Costa, officer of Student Affair and Discipline, graced the program with her welcome remarks. Mrs. Costa expressed her gratitude to the new students who chose to be part of MCCB family.

Mr. Delante presented the MCCB administrators, HED faculty and staff. Program Deans and Program Coordinators were also called to greet and share words of encouragement.

Mr. Delante warmly welcomed freshmen and old students. He reminded them to enjoy their journey as college students and do not dwell too much on pressure. Further, Mr. Delante advised the students to do their best in their studies and make their families and loved ones as their main sources of inspiration.

Mrs. Florabell B. Aragon, Program Dean of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), expressed her gratitude for the effort of BSBA students in promoting and campaigning their program which resulted in the increase in the number of BSBA students this year.

Mrs. Maria Myla V. Carrasco, Program Coordinator of Bachelor of Office Administration (BSOA), encouraged Carmelians to embrace opportunities that lie ahead and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. She also reminded everyone to celebrate success as a testament of collective effort. “I wish you all a fulfilling and rewarding academic year. May this be a year of learning, discovering, and personal growth,” Mrs. Carrasco mentioned as she ended her message.

Mrs. Roselyn Vicente-Obar, Program Coordinator of Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BS Crim), welcomed everyone especially the criminology students. She explained that MCCB is not just a place to study but a community for growth and discovery of passion. “Make the most of your time here. Let this year be unforgettable,” Mrs. Vicente-Obar emphasized.

On behalf of Mrs. Rosalinda C. Abulencia, Dean of Teacher Education Program (TEP), Ms. Eddie Lyn P. Lumasac, member of HED faculty, welcomed all Carmelians especially the education students whom she addressed as catalysts of change. She emphasized that their decision to invest on education and pursue this path reflect their commitment to honing themselves and fostering growth among themselves to be ready for the challenges. As she ended her speech, Ms. Lumasac left this message: “Bear in mind, Carmelians, that every challenge is an opportunity, and every effort contributes to our shared journey.”

Governors of each course program were given the chance to share their experiences to impart lessons and inspire their fellow students. They also led the giving of tokens to freshmen from their respective programs.

MCCB court was filled with excitement and joy as governors encouraged students to join various games during the program. Performances from representatives of each course program elevated the atmosphere, adding to the thrill of the event.
One of the highlights of the event was the video presentation of each program which showcased various student activities and programs held in the previous school year.

Tokens of appreciation were given to early bird and to the student with the best uniform.

Ms. Mia Jeselle Paulo, new SBO President, gave her closing remarks, encouraging everyone to participate in the upcoming events of HED.

The welcome ceremony officially ended with a closing prayer led by Mr. Ian Charlie Resueño, Vice for Internal Affairs.

Higher Education Department (HED) of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) held a baccalaureate mass at San Luis Obispo Parish (SLOP), June 14.

The graduating class of 2024, together with HED instructors and personnel, gathered to celebrate a holy mass presided by Rev. Fr. John Anthony C. Losbañes, Assistant Parish Priest of SLOP and Secretary to the Executive Vice President of MCCB. In his homily, Fr. Losbañes emphasized the deeper meaning of gratitude and appreciation, reminding the students of the things, experiences, and people they should be grateful for. Also, he highlighted the spiritual and moral values the Carmelian graduates should carry with their hearts as they prepare and move forward in life.

The mass concluded with Fr. Losbañes blessing the graduating students, wishing them success and joy in their future endeavors.

After the ceremony, students, faculty and staff gathered for a photo op, capturing the memorable milestone for the class of 2024.

MITING DE AVANCE 2024

Student Council candidates laid down their plans and advocacies during the Miting de Avance, June 4.

Student Commission on Elections (COMELEC) commenced the activity through an invocation led by Claire Serqueña, COMELEC Secretary. John Robert Dela Torre, COMELEC Chairman, gave a warm message and expounded the main purpose of the Miting de Avance.

Aspiring student leaders from departmental level and executive level were introduced and given the opportunity to present their platforms. An open forum followed which tested the candidates’ critical thinking, leadership skills, and preparedness in the responsibilities they will take if their fellow Carmelians chose them as their leaders.

Mrs. Ameurpina DL. Costa, Officer of Student Affairs and Discipline, gave her closing remarks to conclude the event.

HED WELCOMES STUDENTS FOR SECOND SEMESTER

The Higher Education Department (HED) of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB), through the lead of Student Body Organization (SBO), held a welcome program for the students of second semester, February 15.

Jethro Fernando, SBO Business Manager, led the opening prayer followed by Mrs. Ameurphina DL. Costa, Student Affairs and Discipline Officer, who gave a warm welcome message. Mrs. Heraldine S. Villamora, College Affairs Officer (CAO), introduced the faculty members of HED. Governor of each course program shared inspirational messages to their fellow students. Ms. Lorraine Gonzales, students from Teacher Education Program (TEP), gave an intermission number.

To continue with the program, Ms. Ethel Catipon, SBO Treasurer, and Ms. Allyea Aquino, SBO Auditor, presented the financial report for the first semester. After the parlor games, Mr. Jay Mark Carbonel, SBO President, gave closing remarks where he expressed his gratitude to all his fellow SBO officers and encouraged his fellow students to continue striving for their dreams.

Ms. Diana Rose Gatita, SBO Vice President for External Affairs, led the closing prayer which formally concluded the program.

MCCB HOLDS SYMBOLIC PINNING AND SEND-OFF CEREMONY FOR CLASS 2024 TEACHING INTERNS

With the theme “Future-ready Pre-service Teachers Moving Forward in a Changing World,” the Teacher Education Program (TEP) of the Higher Education Department (HED) of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) held a symbolic pinning and send-off ceremony for pre-service teachers, February 12.

The first part of the program commenced with a holy mass presided by Rev. Fr. Rio Mar S. Sindac, O. Carm.

The second part started with the entrance of pre-service teachers from Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) together with their parents and guardians. Ms. Bea Deryll Bautista led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by a welcome remark from Mrs. Heraldine S. Villamora, College Affairs Officer (CAO). Mrs. Villamora expressed her hopes for everyone, especially for the pre-service teachers, and encouraged them to embrace the Carmelian Spirit of Prayer, Compassion, and Prophetic Action as they practice their future profession outside the walls of their institution.

Ms. Criscella Rose C. Abanda introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Marcelo L. Gonzales, Principal I, and an alumnus of MCCB. Mr. Gonzales gave an inspiring and insightful message to the pre-service teachers and shared some tips on how to become an effective teacher. “We, who choose to be teachers, let’s strive for the best. We are the people who shape the different classes or courses that exist here in the world,” Mr. Gonzales stated during his speech.

After the awarding of certificates and token to the guest speaker, Mrs. Rosalinda C. Abulencia, Dean of TEP, presented the determined and future-ready MCCB pre-service teachers. The pinning of pre-service teachers followed by a moment of silence for candle lighting ceremony.

The event continued with an invaluable message from Rev. Fr. John Anthony Losbañes wherein he emphasized that a teacher should not only be a guide to the students but should also possess a heart that knows how to love and embrace the needs of their students.

Ms. Carla D. Castillo delivered the words of response in which she encouraged her fellow pre-service teachers to push themselves beyond their limitations and work together in their commitment to a noble journey of teaching and lifelong learning. “Resilience is not just something we teach; resilience is something we embody. It is something we must embody,” Ms. Carla stated.

Ms. Rianne Faith T. Soriano and Ms. Carmela Delos Santos led the Teacher’s Pledge and The Teacher’s Prayer. Ms. Shane Irish Cuento led the singing of the Carmel Hymn.

The event formally concluded with a photo op.

The symbolic pinning and send-off ceremony for pre-service teachers this year was spearheaded by the members of the Junior Faculty Club (JFC) of TEP.

SDO, TEIs HELD ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE AT MCCB

The Schools Division Office (SDO) with Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) of Aurora held first Round Table Conference at Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) Extension Campus, February 2.

Representatives from different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Aurora offering teacher education program/courses attended the conference which included Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) (Maria Aurora Campus), Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB), and Mount Carmel College of Casiguran (MCCC). The general purpose of the event was to strengthen collaboration and generate agreements.

The event commenced with an opening prayer led by Dr. Ferdinand E. Romano, Program Coordinator of the College of Education and Graduates Studies of Wesleyan University- Philippines (WUP) (Maria Aurora Campus). It was followed by welcome remarks given by Rev. Fr. John Anthony C. Losbañes, Secretary to the Executive Vice President (EVP) of MCCB.

The round table conference proceeded with the statement of purpose presented by Dr. Dante G. Parungao, Career Executive Service Officer (CESO) V, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS). Afterwards, the round table conference mechanics were given by Dr. Charlaw G. Quiben, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Curriculum and Implementation Division (CID).

The conference proper was started by Dr. Vivian M. Carpio, Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) and Focal Person on Practice Teaching (PT). She stated that the partnership between TEIs and the Department of Education (DepEd) was commendable. Furthermore, Dr. Carpio led the discussion on issues and concerns regarding practice teaching wherein suggestions and recommendations were given to address these matters. Another point of the discussion was the proposed Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) regarding practice teaching which, according to Dr. Carpio, must be done effectively and collaboratively.

After the first part of the discussion, brainstorming of ideas and open forum were done where representatives of TEIs expressed their thoughts on the issues and concerns that were raised regarding practice teaching. They also brought light to some problems and issues they encountered or experienced on practice teaching and came up with common ground.

The conference proper continued with the presentation of the Special Needs Education (SNED) Program of SDO which was elaborated by Dr. Melody Oreña, Special Education (SPED) Supervisor. Dr. Oreña discussed important matters, such as issues and concerns regarding the status of SNED in Aurora. The SNED Action Plan for year 2024-2025 was presented as a way to address the issues.

The conference concluded with a closing remark given by Dr. Erleo T. Villaros, OIC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (ASDS), in which he stated, “We are hoping that this initial conference that we had will be meaningful, so eventually we will help students to be productive in the community.”

The event officially ended with a closing prayer led by Dr. Oreña.

HED’S OUTREACH PROGRAM BENEFITS IP STUDENTS

With the theme “Pamaskong Handog Mula sa Puso,” faculty and student leaders of the Higher Education Department (HED) of Mount Carmel College of Baler (MCCB) conducted an outreach program to the indigenous students of Bayanihan National High School in Maria Aurora, Aurora, December 20.

The activity started with a prayer led by Ms. Isabel Alcantara, Governor of Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) program. Mrs. Shiela Tulod, Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) teacher, gave welcome remarks wherein she expressed her gratitude to MCCB for choosing the IP students of Bayanihan National High School as beneficiaries of the outreach program. “This kind of event is really significant and remarkable to us and to our IP students,” Mrs. Tulod stated during her speech. Moreover, Mr. Mariano A. Quiñones, Research Coordinator of MCCB, gave an inspirational message wherein he explained the importance of diversity and IPs. Mr. Quiñones concluded his speech by emphasizing the following words: “Kayo ang larawan ng tunay na Pilipino na hindi dapat mawala dahil kayo ang tagapagdala ng lahing kayumanggi.”

The activity continued with cultural presentations from IP students. The first performance was given by the Egongot where they showcased their rich cultural song and traditional dance called Tagem. The Igorot followed with the enthralling presentation of their dance called Pattong. Afterwards, various parlor games were played in which all IP and HED students participated.

As the highlight of the activity, Noche Buena packages were given to IP students. HED faculty handed bags of grocery items to the beneficiaries of the outreach program. To show their gratitude and appreciation, thanksgiving dances were performed by Egongot and Igorot students. A fascinating unity dance was led together by the two groups of IP dancers where HED instructors and students were invited to join. That moment was shared with smile, laughter, and enjoyment.

In the last part of the activity, Mrs. Maria Myla V. Carrasco, Community Outreach and Extension Program Coordinator of HED, gave a short message in which she thanked everyone for their presence and for making the outreach program possible. Mrs. Tulod gave a closing remark and thanked MCCB once again for giving them the opportunity to experience its “Pamaskong Handog Mula sa Puso.”

The activity formally ended with a closing prayer given by Mr. Jaymark Carbonel, Student Body Organization (SBO) President followed by photo op.
