Mexican coffees tend to be lighter bodied and mild, with subtle flavours. There is potential for them to be outstanding: the 2019 Cup of Excellence saw six coffees break through the 90-point threshold. Cruz José Arguello Miceli’s Gesha won with an impressive 93.07 points.

Mexico grows mostly shade-grown Arabica coffee, with Robusta making up only 3–4% of the country’s crops. 35% of Mexico’s coffee is grown at 900 m.a.s.l., conditions that – in Mexico’s relatively cooler climate – are favourable for higher-quality coffees.

A new lot has arrived from La Loma, a farm that has been creating new flavors time and again with its innovative refining process.

This lot is a "Whiskey Barrel Natural" lot, which means that the cherries were actually aged in whiskey barrels.

The coffee cherries, selected only for their high sugar content, are fermented with a "starter culture" made of microorganisms and a small amount of whiskey.
After resting for 20 days in the cellar,
the cherries are aged for 30 days in oak barrels used in the production of whiskey.

The result is a rich aroma reminiscent of Dark Rum, sweet flavors reminiscent of Vanilla and Chocolate, and a refreshing taste of Melon.
