THANK YOU, JOSENIANS! | Teatro de San Pedro Calungsod extends its heartfelt thanks to Rev. Fr. Raul Murillo Buhay and the University of San Jose-Recoletos Balamban Campus for warmly welcoming us and graciously inviting us to share our mission of using theatre as a means of evangelization. From the moment we arrived, the generosity and openness of the Josenian community made us feel truly at home.

Tonight, we presented โ€œMga Dula Sa Pagtuo,โ€ a collection of stories rooted in faith, offered as a reminder of Godโ€™s presence, especially in the midst of the challenges and uncertainties many of us continue to face. Through each scene, we hoped to reflect the quiet strength of belief, the call to trust, and the grace that carries us through difficult times. We are deeply grateful for the attentive hearts, warm applause, and shared moments of reflection that made this evening meaningful.

May the stories told on stage continue to inspire hope and strengthen our journey of faith beyond the theatre. Daghang Salamat, Josenians! Adelante! Mabuhi ang Sugbuanong Pinulungan! Mabuhi ang Sugbuanong Teatro! To God be the glory!

The moment of excitement and anticipation swept through the air as Teatro de San Pedro Calungsod (TSPC) performed their "Dulo sa Pagtuo" on December 17 at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus. The theater opened with gleaming lights that slowly warmed the once-dark surroundings of the covered court. The audience, filled with eager faces and hushed whispers, waited in anticipation for what promised to be a spectacular performance.

As the lights brightened the stage, the energy of the performers immediately captured everyoneโ€™s attention. Every movement, line, and expression reflected passion, discipline, and teamwork; proof that dedication and unity can transform simple performances into meaningful art. The covered court turned into a living stage where stories were not only told, but felt.

Beyond entertainment, the play carried inspiring lessons that resonated deeply with the audience. Each scene reminded everyone of the importance of faith, love, and responsibility, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own choices and values. The performances showed that even in moments of struggle, hope remains present, and that growth begins when one learns to listen, forgive, and act with compassion.

As the show came to a close, the applause was more than a response to talent, it was an appreciation for the lessons shared. Teatro de San Pedro Calungsod proved that theater has the power to inspire, teach, and unite, leaving the audience not only entertained, but uplifted and motivated to carry these lessons beyond the stage.

Balamban, Cebu โ€“ On December 12, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ran their campaign against illegal drugs at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban campus, specifically at the grade school AVR, to educate the senior high school and BS Criminology students about the dangers of illegal drugs.

The campaign began with jail officer 1, Mary Apple O. Alcoser, introducing what medicines and illegal drugs are and the phases of addiction, followed by the different types of drugs, signs that a person is a drug abuser, and the effects of illegal drugs. The second speaker, Jail Officer Pretch B. Lazarito, came in next to talk about the different reasons as to why people abuse drugs, which consisted of: family problems, peer pressure, curiosity, frustration, weak personality, desire to escape from reality, boredom, environment, and association with drug users.

Afterwards, the BJMP conducted an inspirational talk on why joining them would be a great decision. They showcased a video presentation of their training, proceeding to show the students what they do in the jail and how the jail inspires the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) to become better people instead of tormenting them.

The campaign had given the students insight into how important it was not to use illegal drugs, preventing any unwanted consequences and encouraging a better lifestyle for the future of the youth.

On December 10, as Christmas approaches, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, held the opening of Pasko sa San Jose.

With warm opening remarks by Rev. Fr. Raul M. Buhay, OAR, students soon heard joy, play, and laughter as they watched Jingle performances by the senior high school students, role plays of Joseph and Mary unfolding in preparation for the afternoon shift performance, and Kindergarten 2 students dressing up as little angels for the opening prayer.

Students and staff wore Santa hats, ear muffs, and red or green clothing to embrace the Christmas season. Contests and more events would soon begin as the days come closer to Christmas.

Despite all the challenges and hardships we have faced throughout the year, the Christmas spirit continues to be with us as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. The Christmas lighting and gift-giving season has now begun! So wear your Santa hats, and bring your caroling bellโ€”maybe even dress up as the Grinch or a Santa elfโ€”and let us remember to have a memorable Christmas this year!

On December 4, a special program began in celebration of National Book Week at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, where josenians gathered at the school's GS covered court for the program proper.

Event emcees took the stage first during the program to energize the event, which officially commenced with a prayer followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Immediately after, Mrs. Rowena C. Tomarong, the school's Academic Coordinator for elementary, delivered her welcoming remarks. The formal introduction of judges by Ms. Alyssa Dagohoy and the criteria for judging by Mr. Jade Butaya followed.

The event was just getting underway as elementary students arrived in stunning cultural attire, showcasing tradition through woven fabrics and carrying a sense of pride in their every step. High school representatives were right behind them with their own partners, their flowing fabrics carrying stories embedded in their designs.

But celebrating this event wouldn't be complete without a presentation of our very own culture. Thus, in the midst of the final judging, grade 3 learners performed the paru-parong bukid folk dance with graceful movements to honor Filipino culture.

Afterwards, the awarding ceremony for the winners of the previous contests for National Book Week began. With the theme "LACE-UP: Librariesโ€”A Hub for Cultural Exploration and Unity through Partnership", students displayed their creativity and skills through various challenges. Ms. Joanna Amodia and Ms. Rea Lei Bas called the winners to the front with the following results:

When the event had concluded, Josenians learned to appreciate stories and culture beyond the pages of books. Students became more knowledgeable and respectful of the traditions and history showcased through their costumes and the competitions they participated in. Thus, marking this event as another successful step in developing Josenians beyond their academic pursuits.

๐…๐‹๐€๐’๐‡ ๐ˆ๐ ! Earlier today, the University of San Jose โ€“ Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, carried on Day 2 of the 3-day clean up operation at Nangka National High School.

Led by the same team as Day 1, the volunteers kept the momentum going as they worked together to further improve the schoolโ€™s surroundings.

With two days now completed, the Josenian community remains committed to making a meaningful differenceโ€”proving once again that when many hands come together, positive change continues to grow.
