On November 30, 2023, we stepped into our own pink world as the MalaCAS Dance Troupe, adorned with charm from head to toe, danced the โnightโ away to a medley of tunes from Barbie (2023) and other iconic songs like the Macarena. As they swiftly drifted through the air, the performers skillfully conveyed the essence of being a woman through the art of dance.
Their performance proved to the audience the hardships of living in an imperfect world, discovering what one is made for. However, they also underscored our power to break free from a patriarchal society, shattering boundaries, defying unrealistic standards, and embracing the freedom to be anythingโjust like Barbie.
The MalaCAS Dance Troupe worked hand-in-hand to successfully come up with a fantastic performance, driven by a shared passion to win the competition from the outset. During their preliminary planning stages, Mr. Benedict Tanig was recognized as the mastermind behind the Barbie concept of woman empowerment, in which he incorporated its magic into their production. Thus, despite facing a more limited practice time frame compared to the previous year, as mentioned by Mx. Essen Tungol, they managed to pull through.
As expected, their dedication bore significant fruit, as they clinched the coveted โBest Dressedโ award among the 13 contestants in the Honorian Best Dance Crew competition. Mr. Masaki Takaoka, a fellow member of Sapiens Multimedia and the MalaCAS Dance Troupe, emphasized that their joint effort in finding the perfect outfits further manifested that candidly, students of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) are the epitome of the adage โbeauty and brains.โ
In terms of other placements, the iNTLX dance crew from the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) emerged victorious as the competition champions. Following closely, the dance troupe representing the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), known as CEA All Stars, secured the 1st runner-up position. Subsequently, CCS Encrypt of the College of Computing Studies (CCS) achieved notable success by obtaining the 2nd runner-up title and earning recognition for the best choreography among all participating colleges.
From all CAS students, a heartfelt congratulations to the MalaCAS Dance Troupe! Your outstanding performance and achievement have shone brightly, showcasing not only talent but also dedication and hard work. Each step, each move, and each effort contributed to your well-deserved success.
