THE TRUE & PROPER WEDDING

This is a reminder to all couples that in the Catholic Church we do NOT require you to have all that expensive grandeur. You do not need to spend thousands of Pesos for designer gowns, red carpet, matching entourage outfits, the nave decorated with flowers, etc.

The basic requirements for a Catholic Wedding are:

- At least one of the spouses is a baptized Catholic as evidenced by a baptismal certificate. The Catholic Church allows mixed marriages where one of the spouses is a non-Catholic. This must be discussed with the parish priest of the Catholic spouse beforehand;

- The couple must be a woman and a man who are free of any impediment (e.g. no prior valid marriages) that would prevent marriage;

- The couple must be psychologically mature and capable to consent to the marriage, knowing and understanding the nature of Catholic;

- The couple must freely express their resolve to get married and irrevocably give and accept one another in marriage;

- The wedding must be held in a Catholic church in the presence of a Catholic deacon/priest/bishop not impeded/censured by the Church and in the presence of two other witnesses.

If you want to have a big and grandeur wedding, as long as you have the means for it, then go ahead! But if you can't then that's perfectly fine!

The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is a solemn ceremony where the couples would make their vows to each other and before God; that from that moment on they will be one and nothing can separate them. That's all that matters.

The Negros Island Region Act is now a law! President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act (R.A.) No. 12000 today, June 13, 2024, at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacaรฑan Palace.

We thank President Marcos Jr. for his support of our dream of a separate administrative region for Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

We are indebted also to the support of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and our kasimanwa former Senate President Migz Zubiri, and the dedication of all Negros and Siquijor congressmen, and our champions in the Senate, especially our kasimanwa Senator JV Ejercito, who all worked together to shepherd the NIR bill.

This will bring government services closer to the people of Negros Island and Siquijor, and facilitate integrated development planning towards inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in the region.

Tomorrow is history unfolding for the people of Negros, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to sign the law establishing the Negros Island Region tomorrow, June 13.

The establishment of NIR will bring government services closer to the people of Negros Island and Siquijor, and facilitate integrated development planning towards inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in the region.

We hope that DILG will immediately convene the Technical Working Group that will iron out the institutional arrangements for the transition.
