Happy World Teachers' Day to all Teachers and Future Aspiring Teachers!👩‍🏫🧑‍🏫

a home can be found in any place—
in the spaces between questions asked and answered, in the pause
before a voice lifts from the page.
it’s there, too, in the hum of a classroom emptied for the day,
chairs stacked like silent monuments to all we don’t yet know.
a home can be found within the arms of anyone we’ve ever met,
but more often in the gaze that holds us
when we are lost, when we stutter through a thought and the teacher
waits, as though to say, ‘keep going, it’s yours.’

a home, I believe, is built from every bit of knowledge
passed down, a careful stitching of what is known
and what is dreamed.
and when they speak, these teachers who never tire—
their voices curl like smoke from an ember
they keep lit inside them, a fire we carry long after
we leave the room, our backs turned but still warm.
because a home is not just a place, is it? it’s a becoming—
a transformation that starts when someone sees you
and says, ‘yes, you can.’

they give, not expecting the return,
only hoping that what they’ve given reaches a place beyond
their own knowing, a kind of map made of words
and gestures, leading us to the places they may never step.
but still, they point, and still, they smile,
the light from the window catching the edges of their hair,
silver and soft like a promise:

go on—this is only the beginning.
