A REFRESHER TRAINING FOR BRGY NUTRITION SCHOLARS

COMMUNITY NEWS: A refresher training was provided for barangay scholars which aims to re-introduce the barangay nutrition situation and different techniques on proper data monitoring, scheduling, ex*****on, and conducting weighing activities in different communities.

[BCD PIO RELEASE] In preparation of the Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus 2023, the Urban Basic Services Division of the City Mayor’s Office, scheduled a training for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) at the Bacolod Government Center Masskara Hall.

Spearheaded by Ms. Lora Maria Teresa Clarin, Officer-in-Charge of UBSD, OPT Plus is the annual weighing of all preschoolers, 0-59 months old or 5 years below, in the community to identify and locate the malnourished children in the barangays, and those indigents will be channeled to different programs offered by the city such as feeding, nutrition and livelihood programs.

Following the OPT Refresher is the conduct of actual OPT starting December 2022, and this nutrition activity is geared towards achieving the requirements of the National Guidelines and Timeline on Operation Timbang Plus.

AN ILONGGO BAGGED THE TOP 1 SPOT IN THE RECENT PHYSICIAN LICENSURE EXAMINATION

Justin Adrien Zent "Jaz" G. Togonon bagged the Top 1 spot in the recently announced October 2022 Physician Licensure Exams (PLE).

At 3 A.M. today, his father excitedly woke him up to tell him the good news. Togonon scored 89.00% landing him the top spot in this year's PLE. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Thursday announced that 3,826 out of 5,958 examinees passed the Physician Licensure Examination taken last October 2022.

The 24 year-old Ilonggo board passer from Tigbauan, Iloilo, says he is proud to be an Ilonggo despite finishing his studies at the University of Philippines -Manila.

TOP 10 PERFORMING COLLEGES IN THE RECENT PHYSICIAN LICENSURE EXAMINATION

These universities were among the top-performing colleges in the October 2022 Physician Licensure Examination. The official results include the list of passers, top examinees, performance of schools, oath-taking schedule, and registration requirements, among other important announcements.

The October 2022 Physician board exam was conducted on October 21, 22, 28 & 29, 2022, at testing centers located in the National Capital Region, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legaspi, Lucena, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

THE MISS UNIVERSE QUEENS AND THE NEW OWNER OF MUO

The first-ever Miss Universe Extravaganza was presented by the new owner of the Miss Universe Organization, Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, at Siam Pavalai Royal Grand Theatre, Paragon Cineplex, in Bangkok, Thailand on November 7.

MUO President Paula Shugart and CEO Amy Emmerich also attended the event. Marking their esteemed presence on stage was Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova, Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza, and reigning Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu. Miss Universe Spain 2018 Angela Ponce was also present at the event.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas releases a statement on November 10 regarding Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez's speech in the recently concluded Masskara Festival about Bacolod City's developments.

“The development of Bacolod is important to the region. Iloilo city will always be supportive of all its developmental efforts. We should continue to reinvent and develop otherwise we become irrelevant.” says Treñas.

Benitez also released his statement today in his official FB page saying that he is a friend to the Iloilo Mayor and he admires the leadership of Treñas.

1 DEAD IN A FOOD POISONING CASE IN AJUY, ILOILO

The Department of Education (DepEd-6) is now investigating a reported food poisoning incident in the town of Ajuy, Iloilo.

A student from Pili National High School passed away as a result of the incident, while several others were hospitalized.

DepEd-6 released a statement saying that they had already assigned their Legal Unit and they are now "conducting further investigation on the case."

Moreover, the school is currently working with the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Ajuy together with the Schools Division Office of Iloilo so they can plan a course of action regarding any subsidies that they can offer to affected students.

Ricky Ann Angel Bacacao of Barangay Malayu-an, Ajuy, who passed away, "was first rushed to a hospital on November 4, but was not hospitalized [admitted],"

The deceased student was initially taken to Sara District Hospital, where the health workers recommended hospital admission, but he refused and left, according to DepEd-6.

The report said, "The learner's condition deteriorated a few hours later, and he was taken to Barotac Viejo District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

After experiencing nausea and vomiting, four DepEd personnel and fifteen additional pupils were taken to the hospital.

The learners and their adviser had lunch in their classroom, where students brought a variety of food, according to the incident report from the Schools Division of Iloilo, the Department of Education said.

The local government unit (LGU) of Ajuy, in the meantime, committed to covering the victims' medical costs and offering support to the victim's families.

BCD PIO RELEASE: Bacolod City aspires for a peaceful transition to fully modernized jeeps thus, a series of separate meetings have started between the LGU, modernized and Traditional jeepney drivers and operators.

Modernized jeepney operators are encouraging traditional jeepney drivers to shift to modernized as currently, they are in need of drivers from Bacolod City. The city also sees that for a smooth transition, traditional jeepney drivers may either apply for consolidation to be given a probational authority to operate until March 31, 2023 as Interim operators or fully shift to modernized by applying for the available routes as a cooperative.

The traditional jeepney operators are still appealing to the national government, with the help of Mayor Albee Benitez, to allow them to purchase only the Euro IV engine, the one used for modernized jeepneys, so they can assemble their own modernized jeeps.

DENGUE CASES IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL

According to a report from the Provincial Health Office, the number of dengue-related deaths in Negros Occidental has increased to 29 as of the 29th of October.

From January 1 to October 29, PHO reports that Hinigaran topped the list of dengue-related deaths with 4 victims, followed by three each in Himamaylan City, Calatrava, and Murcia, two in Isabela and the cities of Talisay, Sagay, and Silay, and one each in Toboso, La Carlota City, Manapla, Victorias City, Pontevedra, Bago City, La Castellana, and EB Magalona.

The most dengue cases were reported in La Carlota City out of the 31 local government units (LGUs) in the province.

According to the data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), La Carlota City had 392 cases as of October 29 and one death.

There were 4,964 dengue cases in Negros Occidental as of October 29; 45 of those cases were brand-new, and 29 people died.

The following LGUs also reported a three-folds of dengue cases between January 1 and October 29 of this year:

JUST IN: Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas suspends the Local Public Transport Route Plan or LPTRP ordinance of Iloilo City until the end of the year unless an approval of the amended version of this ordinance is passed.

As per Regulatory Ordinance No. 2022-027: An Ordinance Adopting and Approving the Local Public Transportation Route Plan (LPTRP) of Iloilo City Providing Policies and Guidelines for its Implementation and for Other Purposes.

"I am suspending the ordinance on the LPTRP up to the end of the year unless our amended plan is approved by the board earlier. I am asking the government officials to keep quiet in the meantime until the board has decided on the matter. As [a] local chief executive, we need to adjust according to the unique situation that we have. A law is made to serve our people and not otherwise. A government official who does not keep his mouth shut does not serve our people." Treñas says in a statement from Panay News.

TASK FORCE BAHA - A SOLUTION TO BACOLOD'S FLOOD PROBLEM

In a facebook post on November 3, Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez highlighted the decloggiong operation of the city's task force against flood or "Task Force Baha".

Benitez captioned, "Pagkatapos ni Paeng, sige-sige na sa liwat ang aton Task Force Baha sa declogging activities para masabat ang aton problema sa baha. Periodic ini nga pag-ubrahon sang aton nga team, headed by Councilor Pao Sy, para sa maintenance sang aton mga drainages."

Meanwhile, Benitez also reminds the citizens to be mindful of proper waste disposal.

"Gina-remind ko ang tanan, ulan man ukon init, indi kita malipat sa paghalong sang aton palibot, mangin responsable kita sa pag haboy sang aton mga basura."

ANDREA TORRES PRAISED FOR HER DEPICTION OF "SISA"

Andrea Torres' nearly six-minute acting in GMA's "Maria Clara and Ibarra" gathered praise over a scene showing Sisa slowly losing her sanity delivering the line, “Crispin! Basilio! Mga anak ko, nasaan na kayo?”

“Ay grabe sasabog ang puso ko. Sobra kong naappreciate,” she told fans. “Lalo na pag sinasabi niyo na ‘di na lang basta baliw si Sisa sa paningin niyo. That’s the best,” Torres said after learning of the compliments she received online.

Torres gave justice to the role by giving it context in such a way that Sisa was not just a "baliw" in the story but a mother who lost her children, losing her sanity as an effect.

“Andrea Torres owns the role of Sisa. She changed an entire generation’s perception of who Sisa is. She’s not just a mere BALIW (crazy person) for the boomers, millennials [and] Gen Zs. She was a mother — loving [and] amiable. She represents the unfortunate, the ridiculed [and] the brave,” one said.

“I’ve seen so many takes of Sisa’s cry for Crispin and Basilio while descending into madness from previous Noli [Me Tangere] films [and] plays, but Andrea Torres’s might be my most favorite take so far. Hell hath no fury like a mother whose child has been scorned,” another viewer, , tweeted.

“Andrea Torres owned tonight’s episode. She gave justice to the role Sisa. I can feel her emotions. Everything about this scene was perfectly executed,” another netizen, , praised Torres.

“Maria Clara at Ibarra,” is a GMA tele-drama that is inspired by the country's National Hero's book, El Filibusterismo. The twist of this story is an Isekai-like take on the protagonist which you as the reader must see for yourself... we don't want to be a "spoiler".

MAGICAL PICKS FOR YOU!

THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL

"The School for Good and Evil" is a great work of art by Paul Feig. However, it doesn’t spell anything new to the table.

The concept itself seems like a combination of Disney Descendants, Harry Potter, and Alice in Wonderland. Descendants of fairytale characters and ‘muggles’ (a.k.a. “readers”) are transported into a dream-like magical school that upheld obnoxious black and white rules to follow.

It gives me a feel that the characters also didn’t feel like they were given the right exposure or that some scenes could have been emotionally grasped better. However, the movie adapted from a children’s book by Soman Chainani, would really suit the fairly younger age group that are still discovering themselves. Then this makes as a perfect movie for them.

We also can’t take for granted the great CGIs and the character designs they produced to depict the magical world of fairytales. The way they casted their magical powers made it look like one of those superhero movies. The setting is supposedly medieval and a lot of the principles that time were exactly black and white. It was either you are rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, or good or evil. No in-betweens. It’s a good reflection of how much has changed through time because of the contrasting principles the main characters upheld than the rest of them. Even those that were in the school for Good don’t seem to realize how they were no different from those in the school for Evil.

All in all, this movie is not that bad. In fact, it was fun how the characters portrayed their roles, and the modern principles it depicted. Sophie was also humorously relatable. So, this movie gets a score of three out of five.

HOCUS POCUS 2

The Sanderson sisters are back in 2022! They might put a spell on you if you watch their sequel, Hocus Pocus 2.

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, a.k.a. the original Sanderson sisters, reunited to give us our deserved sequel to the classic 1993 Hocus Pocus.

It was such a treat when the original trio still portrayed their characters majestically in the new movie. The sisters were devious, cruel, and always in sync, but their close relationship as a sisterhood is further emphasized in this sequel. It makes one to be fond of their relationship despite their destructive ambition. We are also introduced to their backstory which gives us more depth into their characters and gives us an idea that they were not the only witches in the world.

There is a main character in the sequel, and the Sanderson sisters are the obvious villains. However, the fondness and attachment to the Sanderson sisters’ classic characteristics overlaps the protagonists’ character and story. It felt like the protagonists were just extras in the movie trying to be main characters. The Sanderson sisters are just too iconic!

Overall, this sequel of such classic witchery gets a 3 out of 5 score. The movie felt like a short cartoon episode, but we respect it being a remarkable classic. The hype is mainly because of our childhood witches, the Sanderson sisters.

SCARCITY OF BASIC NEEDS IN ANTIQUE
Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao stated that the Quick Response Fund will be used to rent a barge to deliver dry goods and gasoline throughout the province.
This comes after a string of gasoline station closures in the province were reported due to impassable bridges in Iloilo.
Around P8 million of the province's QRF will be used and will be available to Antique entrepreneurs for free. According to Cadiao, separate barges will be used to deliver dry goods and gasoline.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry - Antique, stocks of noodles, sardines, coffee, canned meat products, milk, and bread are running low in Antique due to bridge damage in Barangay Oyungan, Miag-ao, and Barangay Lugta, Laua-an, which has hampered deliveries from Iloilo and Aklan, respectively. If bulk buying continues, the agency estimates one week before supplies run out in major retailers.
DTI-Antique advises that stocks from Iloilo be transferred from truck to truck across the Oyungan Bridge, but this will incur additional costs for manpower and hauling. Until now, only light vehicles have been permitted to cross the bridge.
The Antique Provincial Government, municipal and barangay LGUs, and private donation drives to purchase the majority of basic commodities in bulk to be distributed as relief goods to Bagyong Paeng victims.
Meanwhile, President B**g B**g Marcos sent DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos and other cabinet secretaries to Antique to assess the province's current situation.
