MassKara Festival 2024 Grand Salubong motorcade route announced

The Bacolod Yuhum Foundation has officially announced the route for the Grand Salubong Motorcade as part of the 45th celebration of MassKara Festival on Friday, October 11.

More than 60 sponsors will participate in the kickoff event, which will start at 3:00 PM from Araneta Street and culminates at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC).

The motorcade will assemble near the KIA Motors showroom in Barangay Singcang-Airport and will make their way through Gonzaga, Gatuslao, North Capitol Road and Lacson Street.

The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office is advising the public to expect heavy traffic along these routes.

Sponsors are also expected to give away merchandise and candies for spectators.

From Lacson Street, the motorcade will continue along BS Aquino Drive, Hernaez Street in the South Public Market (Libertad) and Lacson-Burgos Street before heading toward Circumferential Road before making its final stop at the BCGC grounds by 5:50PM.

‘Bigger and Better MassKara’

The Bacolod City Local Government, in partnership with the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation, promises Bacolodnons and visitors of a bigger and better MassKara celebration this year.

Headlining the festivities at the BCGC are local pop-rock group Yuya and OPM sensation December Avenue to serenade the crowd with hit songs including “Sa Ngalan ng Pag-ibig,” “Kung Di Rin Lang Ikaw” and “Kahit Di Mo Alam.”

The Grand Salubong will culminate with a dazzling fireworks display at midnight, marking the official start of the 45th MassKara Festival.

2 Former world pool champions among 4,000 athletes to compete in 3rd MassKaralympics this October

Former world pool champions Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante are set to compete in the 3rd Mayor Albee Benitez MassKara 10-ball Open Billiard Tournament at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Activity Center from October 21-25.

“The Magician” Reyes and Bustamante are among 4,000 athletes competing in 18 sporting events for the 3rd MassKaralympics.

Both pool legends will participate in the singles matches. The annual competitions for the 45th MassKara Festival celebration will kick off with badminton matches at the Pohang Badminton Center and Lopues South Square from October 4-6, starting at 7:30 AM.

Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez is expected to lead the tee-off for the golf tournament at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club from October 10-13.

Runners, cyclists, and Zumba enthusiasts will test their limits in the MassKaRun, Bike, and Zumba events on the opening day of the MassKara Festival 2024 at the Bacolod City Government Center on October 12, starting at 5 AM.

A visiting Singaporean team will face off against the country’s top Tchoukball clubs at the BCC Activity Center from October 18-20. Meanwhile, national paddlers will compete in the table tennis tournament at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central from October 13-15.

Cagers from various barangays in Bacolod City will battle it out at the Brgy. Villamonte Gym for the 1st Mayor Albee Benitez 3-on-3 Inter-Barangay Tournament.

“This year is more exciting. We have more games, and we have new sports like Pickleball, 3x3 Basketball, E-sports, Darts, and Frisbee,” said Jose David Diaz, MassKaralympics 2024 Sports Head.

The 3-on-3 basketball event, along with the MassKara Frisbee Cup, National Pickleball Tournament, E-sports, and Darts Tournament, will debut at this year’s MassKaralympics from October 12-25, featuring over 200 competitors.

The 17-under beach volleyball competitions will take place on October 12-13 and October 19-20, while the Open category matches are scheduled for October 21-24. All matches will be held at the USLS Sandbox. Meanwhile, the MassKara Volleyball Cup will take place at Montalbo’s Gym from October 18-21, starting at 8 AM.

Football clubs will compete at the Panaad Park and Stadium pitch and La Provincia Open Field on October 19-20, starting at 7 AM.

The Rhythmic Gymnastics National Invitationals are scheduled for October 13-15 at the BCC Activity Center. Swimming events will be held at the St. John’s Institute Sports Pavilion from October 19-20, while the chess tournament will be held at 888 Chinatown Square Bacolod from October 17-20.

These are the only official events sanctioned by the Bacolod Yuhum Foundation, as specified by David Diaz, coordinator for the 3rd MassKaralympics.

“This will be an action-packed MassKaralympics this October, and we look forward to bringing more fun and excitement to this year’s MassKara Festival celebration,” Diaz added.
