Today, we honor Gen. Simeon Ola, the last Filipino general to surrender in the Philippine-American War. His defiance stands as a powerful testament, not merely an act of war, but a fierce expression of love. It was a love for freedom, for his people, and for his country that drove him to stand firm against oppression.
Over a century later, our battles have evolved, but our resolve remains unwavering. Today, we confront the soaring cost of living, stronger and more destructive typhoons, rampant corruption, and the pervasive threat of misinformation. Olaโs legacy is a powerful reminder: surrender is absolutely not an option.
His courage inspires us to overcome despair. His sacrifice invites us to come together in unity. His spirit encourages us to continue our struggle, not with violence, but through truth, compassion, and resilience.
Gen. Olaโs fight lives on in us. As long as we choose solidarity over division and hope over fear, the dream of a stronger, freer, and prouder Philippines will never fade.
