Luna National High School won the First-place Title amongst the 3 participating High School in Luna, Apayao during the 2024 Short Film Festival on Teenage Pregnancy today on January 27, 2025, at Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center Quirino Luna Apayao.

LNHS also won several awards, including Best Script Writer and Best Musical Score. A special thank to Teacher Jhonlee Baletbet, Emmalyn Pedronan, and Meah Joy Espanol for encouraging their students to participate in the short film competition. In addition, Kathleen Gumanab was hailed as the Best Actress and Wayne Gonzales as the Best Actor. A particular appreciation goes out to Sir Nelson Rigor, the medical center head II and his staff for organizing the event.

SNAPSHOTS | LNHS Secures 3rd spot in Sepak Takraw Girls

Santa Marcela, Apayao — Luna National High School Sepak Takraw Girls finished 3rd place after tough losses against Calanasan and Sta. Marcela.

Despite strong efforts from players Precious Gem Roseo, April Aguite and Paula Madlene Uddipa, the team struggled to secure spot for the championship.

Calanasan’s incredible performance led to LNHS’ first loss. On the second game, Sta. Marcela dominated and handed LNHS another defeat. Though they missed out on the championship, LNHS Sepak Takraw Girls’ hard work and teamwork earned them a solid finish.

PAGUTALAN secures victory against FALSARIO in Wushu Boys Championship

Mike Clifford Pagutalan of Luna defeated Jayden Lee Falsario of Kabugao in the 30th lightweight division bout of the championship, securing his spot in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet this year. The match took place at PCS on January 25, 2025.

Lee started strong in round 1 with precise strikes and a tactical approach, but Pagutalan turned the fight around in round 2 with resilience and counterattacks. Showing superior endurance, Pagutalan dominated round 3, securing a decisive victory.

The final decision declared Pagutalan, representing the blue corner, as the winner with a weight of 49.5 kg. Falsario, competing at 52.2 kg from the red corner, was ultimately outmatched despite his valiant efforts. The victory not only crowned Pagutalan as the gold medalist but also solidified his status as a champion heading into the CARAA meet.

Pagutalan credited much of his success to his coach, Arjay Cerezo, whose guidance and training played a vital role in his preparation and performance. Coach Cerezo emphasized the importance of discipline, strategy, and unwavering determination, qualities Pagutalan showcased in the ring.

This win not only propels Luna further into the spotlight but also inspires young athletes in the region as they prepare to send their finest competitors to the upcoming CARAA meet.

Pagutalan’s triumph serves as a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance on the road to greatness.

PAGALA CLINCHES GOLD IN WUSHU BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP

PUDTOL, APAYAO— Roel Pagala Jr. of Luna (red) managed to secure the title as the champion for Wushu Boys Category against Mark Angelo Marciano (blue) of Kabugao in a heated match today, January 25 2025 at Pudtol Central School mini-gymnasium.

After winning two games yesterday which leads Pagala to fight for Luna in the championship of the said event,he again managed to be victorious today.

From the two rounds of the game, Pagala consistently showed his prowess by delivering consecutive powerful kicks and punches to his opponent, seemingly without getting tired, and also showed his great determination to win.

As a result, his impressive display of strength and skill left the judges in awe once again, securing his win in the two-round game.

Although he reached new heights in the game, exhaustion eventually caught up with him, evident in his labored breathing after the match, a stark contrast to his energetic performance in the ring.

Yet, it was his awe-inspiring performance in the game that stole the show, as he showcased his unbridled bravery and unrelenting strength in combat.

This proud young wushu champion from Luna would be among those athletes who will be representing the Province of Apayao on the upcoming CARAA Meet at Benguet to be further trained by Jhonlee De Guzman Baletbet and Arjay Emolotrab Cerezo, proud coaches of Luna National High School.

ROSARIO OUTSCORED SIPSIP IN WUSHU BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP

In a thrilling championship rounds between Lezalde Rosario Jr.(blue) of Luna and Leonard Sipsip (red) of Pudtol , Rosario once again proved his strength by outscoring Sipsip in Wushu Boys category today, January 25,2024 at PCS, Pudtol.

The journey of winning the game was indeed challenging as the young wushu player of Pudtol also managed to equate his score to Luna leaving judges into giving hard decision on the first round of the game.

However, the judges decided to look for the lighterweight to declare the winner for round 1 which gave Rosario a great advantage as he weighs .6 lesser than Sipsip (41.4 kilograms and 42 kilograms.)

As the game continues, Luna didn't give his opponent a chance to overpower him as he exerted more strong punches and very firm kicks to Pudtol.

On the second round of the game, Rosario again managed to have a wider margin of victory as he was declared to be the winner of the said round.

The game ended aknowledging Rosario claiming a Gold Medal as the champion of the bout leaving Sipsip a good experience for the match as well.

The said athlete of Luna would be one to proudly ko represent Apayao on the upcoming CARAA Meet in Benguet to be coached by Arjay Cerezo, and Jhonlee De Guzman Baletbet, both proud coaches from Luna National High School.

Pablo leads Luna District to Glorious Victory in MAG Secondary

FLORA, APAYAO – Barell James Pablo of Luna National High School grabbed the gold medal in MAG Secondary against his opponents from the different district of Apayao, 50.3, held at Dr. Efren U. De San Jose Sports Complex, Flora Apayao on January 25, 2025.

The stage was set, and Pablo took to the Mushroom apparatus with focus. Each move was precise, each transition seamless. His performance earned a stunning score of 19.93, setting the tone for his gold-medal campaign. As he moved to the Bars, his confidence grew. The crowd watched in awe as he executed flawless swings and dismounts, earning 19.87 points. Finally, Pablo approached the Floor Exercise, the last hurdle in his pursuit of victory. His routine, a perfect mix of power and grace, garnered 10.50 points, bringing his total to 50.3. The cheers of the audience erupted as Pablo secured the gold medal, a testament to his hard work and the guidance of his coach, Rejane Bulsao.

The battle for the podium did not end there. Pedrito Jesalva Jr. of Flora District showed his skill and determination. With scores of 12.15 in the Mushroom, 19.73 on the Bars, and 10.00 in the Floor Exercise, Jesalva Jr. earned a total of 41.88 points, clinching the silver medal. Hot on his heels was his teammate, Andrey Jesalva, who scored 14.37 on the Mushroom, 17.03 on the Bars, and 8.97 on the Floor Exercise. His total of 40.37 points secured him the bronze medal and admiration from the crowd.

In the team competition, the Luna District trio of Barell James Pablo, Julleus Perdido, and Kevin Taret proved unstoppable. Their combined total of 121.99 points earned them the top spot, with each gymnast contributing to their well-deserved victory. Perdido delivered an excellent performance, scoring 39.52 points, while Taret’s solid routines added 32.17 points to the team’s total.

Flora District gave a valiant effort, finishing a close second with a total of 120.00 points. Zaldy Cortado led the team with 37.75 points, while Pedrito Jesalva Jr. and Andrey Jesalva added 41.88 and 40.37 points, respectively, to their impressive team score.

Pudtol District rounded out the top three, scoring 97.01 points. The team, composed of Zyril Mar Nippa (39.17 points), Rovick John Bab-ayan (32.78 points), and Jeston Mar Raquedan (25.06 points), displayed heart and determination, earning applause for their efforts.

Tumaneng secured a Spot for CARAA Meet in Taekwondo Boys Secondary

Gabrielli Tumaneng (red) - a representative of Luna National High School for Provincial Meet easily secured his spot for the 2025 CARAA Meet against his opponent Samyr Bayaua (blue) of Conner.

During the start of the match, Tumaneng already showcased his outstanding moves, which greatly intensified the match.

After a 3-minute break, Bayaua was determined to win against Tumaneng. In the middle of the game, they are fiercely as both athletes showed remarkable powers throughout the battle. The game ended with a decision of judges favouring Tumaneng's strength in a score of 14-6.

"I'm so overwhelmed and frustrated during the game, so I think I will not win the gold medal. Then wow, unexpectedly I won, but of course I can't do this on my own. So, thank you to my coach ma'am Meah Español, ma'am Ruth Patayan, Jezreel Gamiao, and Helter Tandi, " Tumaneng's said.

"Despite the hectic schedule of academics and lack of training, we still manage to secure a spot for the CARAA Meet but of course even though we'll win or lose, I'm still proud of my team," Coach Meah Joy Español said.

Pagutalan overpowered Tungpalan in Wushu Boys

Mike Clifford Pagutalan's, (blue) unstoppable storm of punches and kicks made him win a battle against

Pagutalan's power was on full display in the first round, as his punches hammered into Tungpalan, sending shockwaves through his opponent's body.

The change in Tungpalan's movements was a testament to the force of Pagutalan's blows.

A heated match continues as the young athlete of Flora also showed his great defense against Luna which further ignited Pagutalan's determination to continue the fight.

After doing and trying very hard to win against Luna, Flora still wasn't able to secure the title as Tungpalan raised his right hand considering it as a sign of surrendering, giving the spot to Pagutalan as a winner of the game.

PAGALA EXTENDED HIS WINNING STREAK AGAINST CAMAING IN WUSHU BOYS

In an unstoppable momentum, Pagala(blue) secures another title after winning another set of game against Camaing(red) of Conner in Wushu Boys category on January 24,2025 at Pudtol Central School mini-gymnasium.

On the first round of the game, Pagala wasn't able to overpower Camaing as a draw was given by the 3 judges as a result for the said round.

The game started fiercely as both the athletes showed both remarkable powers throughout the battle.

Despite not being able to earn higher points than Camaing, Pagala did not stop and continue to exert stronger and more firm punches together with powerful kicks against his opponent.

As the game go on, fortunately at the second round, the young and strong athlete of Luna showed his impressional skills and unordinary stength enabling him to outscore Conner on this round.

Determined to win, Pagala wasted no time and efforts in reclaiming another victory after winning his previous game.

The game ended with a decision made by the judges favoring Luna, giving Pagala another victorious spot on the said sport.

"His attacks were also uneasy. They are so strong and powerful" Pagala added as the game ended showing that he also had a hard time winning the said event.

Despite his words, his skill and strength were undeniable, leading him to victory once again which shows that he is a back-to-back champion in his event.

Du secures Bronze in the Men's Triple Long Jump

LUNA, Apayao — Earl Chazen Du's striking jumps earned him a bronze medal in the Men's Triple Long Jump held at Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC) on January 23, 2025.

The rising athlete of Luna displayed his soaring jumps throughout the game, clinching third place among his opponents.

Unfortunately, he was unable to advance in the category of long jump despite his effort and passion.

"I'm so proud of him," said Mary Jane Balleras, his coach. "Hopefully, he'll have more extensive training next time and achieve even greater success. I'm looking forward to the next games."

LNHS clinches Third Place in Dancesports

The Luna National High School Dancesports athletes, Stephen Vincent Nator and Kaizzha Antonette Dumaoan showcased their outstanding moves making them as the third placer in the Dancesports Provincial Meet held at BGVJr Memorial Sports Center on January 24, 2025.

During their dance elimination, Nator and Dumaoan danced through their techniques that impressed the judges landing them in the championship.

Right after a 10 minutes break the championship begun, six couples including Nator and Dumaoan danced through the music each showing their outstanding, energetic performances, and poise in Samba, Chacha, Paso Doble, and Jive.

Despite Dumaoan's accidental trip during their performance in the championship, she kept it proffesional and as a result, they managed to enter top three out of six municipalities that competed in dancesports.

Both athletes were awarded as third place in Samba, second place in Chacha, second place in Rumba, second place in Paso Doble, and second place in Jive.

Jezzel Mae Llameg wins Gold and Silver in Jump Events

LUNA, Apayao — Jezzel Mae Llameg of Luna National High School won gold in the Women's Triple Long Jump and silver in the Women's Long Jump competition held at Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex (AETSC) on January 24, 2025.

In the triple long jump yesterday, she showcased her exceptional skills, leaving the audience in awe. After delivering an astounding performance, she took the lead among her competitors, bagging the gold medal.

While in Long jump, despite her passion and dedication, her final jump of 3.93 meters was not enough to secure the gold medal.

Jezzel's phenomenal jumps earned her two medals. Her coach expressed her pride towards her coachee.

"I am proud of her because, even with a limited practice time, she managed to give an incredible performance," said Mary Jane Balleras, her coach.
