MAGSASAKA PARTYLIST AND FEDERATION OF FREE FARMERS CONDEMNS ANOTHER KILLINGS OF FARMERS IN OCCIDENTAL MINDORO

Last night, two people (FFF member Rustom Bayan plus an unidentified person) were shot to death at 11 pm Feb 13 in Alacaak, Sta. Cruz, Mindoro Occidental. Another 2 persons were wounded. These 4 farmers were inside their hut when goons wearing bonnet forcibly took them out and shot them, leaving two dead while the remaining two managed to escape.

There were at least 3 carbine and shotgun-toting assailants, suspected to be hired goons involved in the murders of FFF leaders Gerriel and Josephine Tadeja last Dec 14.

PNP from Sta. Cruz and Mamburao are conducting an spot investigation.

As Cong Cabatbat, chairman of Magsasaka Partylist and MPL 1st nominee and FFF Chairman Leonardo Montemayor reported last Feb 10 to Sec. Estrella, these killings/violent acts against the farmers are related to their agrarian case in the former Jesus Abeleda ranch in Occidental Mindoro.

"We urgently need PBBM's, DILG Sec Jonvic Remulla's, and DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla's help. These killings and harassments must end.", former Sec. Leonardo Montemayor and Cong. Argel Cabatbat said.

A recent sequence of offshore earthquakes off Ilocos Sur has been traced to the Manila Trench, prompting concerns over the potential for a high-magnitude earthquake, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quakes, which occurred near Santa Catalina town, have raised the possibility of a worst-case scenario: a magnitude 8.4 earthquake originating from the movement of this segment of the Manila Trench.

Sa ginawang tsunami simulation ng PHIVOLCS, hinati ang Manila Trench sa apat na segments at ayon dito, ang mga sequence ng offshore earthquakes sa Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur ay nangyayari sa Manila Trench segment 2 (MT2).

Base sa model, ang worst case scenario kung sakaling gumalaw ang buong MT2 ay isang Magnitude 8.4 na lindol.

Dagdag ng ahensya, kapag nakalikha ito ng tsunami, ang unang alon ay makararating sa baybayin ng mga probinsya ng Zambales, Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte at Cagayan sa loob ng dalawa hanggang 15 minuto at ang taas ng alon ay maaaring umabot ng tatlo hanggang 15 metro.

Paalala pa ng PHIVOLCS, hindi kayang ma-predict kung kailan mangyayari ang lindol o tsunami kaya pinapayuhan ang publiko na maging mapagmatyag at kapag nakaranas ng kahit isa sa mga senyales ay agarang lumikas sa mataas na lugar o palayo sa dagat.

This serves as a notice of alert level raise from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3 of Kanlaon Volcano.

An explosive eruption occurred at the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano at 3:03 PM today, 9 December 2024. The eruption produced a voluminous plume that rapidly rose to 3,000 meters above the vent and drifted west-southwest. Pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descended the slopes on the general southeastern edifice based on IP and thermal camera monitors.

In view thereof, DOST-PHIVOLCS is raising the Alert Level of Kanlaon Volcano from Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) to Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest). This means magmatic eruption has begun that may progress to further explosive eruptions. All local government units are advised to evacuate the 6-km radius from the summit of the volcano and must be prepared for additional evacuation if activity warrants.

BREAKING: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday declared martial law in an unannounced late night address.

Yoon said he had no choice but to resort to such a measure in order to safeguard free and constitutional order, saying opposition parties have taken hostage of the parliamentary process to throw the country into a crisis.
