Taiwan Travel budget, tips and things to do. 5D 4N in Taiwan.

Before departing take a note on these items:

Pay your travel tax Php1620. You have two options, online and at the airport. For online payment: https://tieza.gov.ph/online-travel-tax-payment-system .

Fill up your eTravel departure card for immigration purposes. You can fill it up online at https://etravel.gov.ph.

Register for Taiwan Lucky draw for a chance to win up to NTD$5000. If you’re lucky enough to win $5000 you have 2 options on how to use it. Accommodation voucher which can be used for hotels and Evoucher which can be used for food, drinks and other items as well. Website: https://5000.taiwan.net.tw/index_en.html. Fill in the form 7 days or 1 day before arrival.

Our airline (AirAsia) gave us a Taiwan arrival card to fill up for Taiwan Immigration. You can register online at https://www.roc-taiwan.org/id_en/post/814.html but I’m not sure why there’s no reference number or QR code after registering.You can also ask your chosen airline for clarifications.

Once you’ve arrived at Taoyuan Airport. You can quickly see Taiwan lucky draw just outside of the arrival area, then after that, you can get your Sim card at the SIM counter located at the far-right side of the arrival area.

You can withdraw NTD via the ATM of Bank of Taiwan. I withdrew an amount of NTD $5000 using my GoTyme debit card. Take note that GoTyme and GCASH card have no transaction fee. So NTD $5000 = Php 8906 (screenshot below). NTD $1 = Php 1.78.

Is NTD $5000 enough for 5days in Taiwan? Answer is Yes, in my own opinion it is enough especially if you’re a budget traveler.

Why? From Airport to Taipei, you can ride a train that’ll cost NTD$150. The average price of a train ticket in Taipei is NTD$25-$60 depending on how far you will go. Bus ride costs $15-$40, take note that you should pay the exact amount for bus rides, as they don’t give change.

The transportation system in Taiwan is 10/10. Hands down on their transportation system. Very convenient, reliable and relaxing. You can use google maps on your phone for you to have a guide when roaming around using their public transportation.

For food. Taiwan has this snack culture. Not all places have rice meals. The average price of a snack is NTD$100 and for a meal around NTD$150. Also, we all know that Taiwan is famous for their Milk tea, the average cost of milk tea is NTD$100-$150. So, the total cost for food a day would be around NTD$400 per day.

If you’re going to Taiwan and you love shopping, you'd better have more budget than NTD$5000 and Taiwan is the place for you. Stores have big discounts on their items. The discount system is like “the more items you buy, the higher discount you’ll get”. Example at a Nike store, the discount per pair of shoes is 30% but if you’ll buy 3 or more items, you’ll get an additional 20% discount making it a total of 50% discount!

What are the things to do in Taiwan?
Taiwan has a lot of night markets; tourists and locals are bustling I should say. Especially in the Ximending area you can see a lot of shops.

If you love to go partying, night clubs are also famous in Taiwan. I went to the WAVE nightclub located in Taipei. The entrance fee for guys is NTD$400 with free drink and ladies have no entrance fee (this was Thursday, maybe it depends on the day).

Also, most of the attractions on our itinerary have no entrance fee. The only attraction we've visited with entrance fee are Taipei 101 and Yehlu Geopark.

All in all, my experience in Taiwan has been the best. All countries have different cultures for you to experience.

Taipei 101. 11th tallest building in the world with the height of 508 meters (1667 feet). It also have a massive golden steel tuned mass damper that can withstand an earthquake (recently 7.4 magnitude).

Entrance fee for tourist is NTD $600 (almost 1200 pesos) accessible up to 89th floor and 91st floor.
