Looking to our feelings to steady our souls instead of Truth is dangerous ground.

Why? Because feelings are fragile props. Only Truth is solid, unchanging and stable through and through. The beliefs we hold should hold us up, even when life feels like it’s falling apart.

We aren’t just promised peace on the other side of eternity. Isaiah tells us how we can experience and walk in strength and peace today:

“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:3-4, ESV).

This doesn’t mean our circumstances will feel peaceful. It doesn’t mean all our relationship troubles and hardships suddenly get better. Nor does it mean the prayers we pray suddenly all get answered. But what it does mean is our mind can be steadied with Truth instead of overrun with thoughts of fear, anxiety and worst-case scenarios.

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (ESV). The same God who rescued David from Saul, who split the Red Sea so the children of Israel could safely pass through, and the One who promises strength to His people through Isaiah — He is the same God you can trust with your life.

God is always doing more than you know — working toward a good you’ll one day rejoice in.

Have you ever cried over something so much that you run out of tears? Your swollen eyes just give out and dry up while a current of unrest still gushes through your soul. And you look up toward heaven in utter confusion — “Why isn’t God answering my prayers?”

Me too.

And there’s someone else in the Bible who was right there as well.

Hannah felt provoked and frustrated. Her anguish was so intense that she wept and would not eat. Before the Lord, she cried out in bitterness of soul, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant … then I will …” (1 Samuel 1:11b, NIV).

These words describe and articulate the deep distress of a woman from thousands of years ago, and yet here I sit in modern times relating so completely.

Eventually her cries of anguish gave way to the cries of her newborn son, 1 Samuel 1:20a uses very clear words to let us know Hannah’s answer didn’t come right away: “So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son … ”

It took time. But make no mistake. God’s timing, though not the same as Hannah’s, was perfect timing.

God hadn’t made Hannah wait to punish her. He hadn’t been callous or indifferent to her cries. And He’s not ignoring those of us waiting either.

God loves us too much to answer our prayers at any other time than the right time.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NIV

How comforting it is to know that wherever we go, God is there with us. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations and wonder if God is paying attention. We may feel so alone and even depressed. We can't feel God's presence, and we need His guidance and help.

God is with us, leading us, guiding us, loving us, providing for us -- all with His unlimited resources. What do we need? Do we need strength, peace, love, joy, or hope? He has it all. He is longing to pour out His favor and blessing upon us. We need to be open to Him and to trust Him. We need, by faith, to receive what He has for us. It is essential we realize how much He loves us and that He has a good purpose and plan for us.

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Ephesians 3:14-16 NLT

This Scripture is awesome. There is nothing that God doesn't know and can't do for us. He walks with us every moment of every day. We need to speak these Scriptures to our hearts. The devil can't stand it when we, in confidence, speak God's Word. It builds faith in us and gives us the strength to stand.

You can trust God. No matter what is going on in your life, He is there! God goes where you go.

Deuteronomy 8:3 reveals, “He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

Here are three things we can take away from Deuteronomy 8:3:

✨God is our provider.

The children of Israel were used to looking down at the ground in Egypt and working the land to provide for themselves. They trusted their own hard work for their provision. Now, they’d need to look up and trust God for His provision.

✨God’s provision is what we need but not always what we want.

This manna God provided wasn’t like the normal food the Israelites were used to providing for themselves. But God knew it was perfect nourishment for those in the desert. He knows our needs better than we do. God is more concerned about our ultimate good than our temporary pleasure.

✨God’s provision protects our heart. Our desires have the potential of corrupting our heart.

Man-made bread is not what gives the fullness of life God desires for us. Man-made success, riches and popularity are the same way. They won’t fulfill us like we think they will. Only the Word of God can seep into the hungry places of our souls and make what’s dead and discouraged become fully alive and deeply satisfied.

May we all choose to trust Him and let that be the lens through which we process our circumstances. May we see how God isn’t trying to break our hearts but rather make us ready for what He sees just ahead.

Lord, thank You for always having my best in mind. Search my heart for any shred of pride, and help me live a life of humble and complete surrender to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

No matter God’s answer to our prayer, our hearts can be settled to trust and love Him. I don't have to understand; I just have to trust. This kind of total surrender brings about a depth of peace and relationship with God you can’t get any other way. It all stems from living out Deuteronomy 6:5b, loving God “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Nothing in life is certain. Circumstances roll in and out like the ocean’s tide. And the unknown can sometimes seem so frightening.

We can’t stop or control things that roll our way any more than we can stop the water’s edge.

But we can make the minute-by-minute choice to let our souls rest in God.

Dear Lord, I want to love You with all my heart, all my soul and all my strength like Your Word instructs. Teach me how to give up the control I try to maintain as I experience uncertainties and hard times. Help me trust You, no matter what comes my way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

-Lysa TerKeurst

How will you rest in God today, friend?

28/10/2019

You have been created intentionally by a God who loves you, sees you and hopes for the best in you. Your weaknesses are not a liability to God. All of you is loved and held, and everything is redeemable. The rest of your life is dependent on His capacity — not your ability to cover up who you are.

You are the girl for the job. Not in spite of your weaknesses, but because His power is made perfect in them. We’re going to be in this world, and we might as well let God use us to change it.

Father, thank You that Your grace is for us, choosing us when we wouldn’t have chosen You and holding us when we miss the mark. Help us believe so furiously in Your goodness that we’re bold in our repentance and confession. Humble our hearts and open our eyes — help us change the world by saying I’m sorry when we need to. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
