Talents and culture greeted each other on the 3rd day of the 2024 Academic Week, held at the Gymbahan of Colegio de San Juan de Letran - Bataan, through various performances, including artistic storytelling, solo and duet singing, and even pieces of spoken poetry. It highlighted both the students' love for the language they use daily and showed that the Filipino language is not just to show Filipinos have their own language. It's there because it is an art piece on its own. Storytellers, poets, and singers, with some even asking their advisers if they could join the competition while it was going on, goes to show how motivated these young men and women are to showcase the different sides of the dialect they call their own. The winners of said events are to be announced on September 27, 2024, Friday. Along with all the previous winners for the contests and activities, the Collegiate department has held thus far.

In the afternoon, the event transitioned to a more traditional celebration แ…ณ the Pistang Pinoy. Students and the members of the faculty gathered to celebrate the event, with the traditional Filipino dishes being the centerpiece, brought by each collegiate program.

After the feast, Larong Pinoy took place. The air was filled with nostalgia or a sort of enjoyment seeing Filipinos playing games for Filipinos by Filipinos. To sum it up, it was purely just joy and fun as students actively participated in playing Filipino games traditionally played by the youth of the country and even kids at heart such as Chinese garter and patintero.

As the day came to an end, the events celebrating the Buwan ng Wika surely left a smile on the face and on the appetite of everyone who attended. The celebrations reminded us to continue preserving Filipino traditions, and how these cultural events will continue to create a stronger, connected community everywhere these Filipinos go next.

Engr. Lord Vien Baltazar, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer and the resource speaker for this dayโ€™s Segregation and Waste Management Activity, shared his knowledge and insights on solid waste management with the students and faculty of the Collegiate Department together with Rev. Fr. Reynor E. Munsayac, OP., Executive Vice President, and Mr. Markwin Legaspi, Director of Auxiliary Services Department. His talk included the different categories of waste and their proper disposal. This seminar opened up ideas and discussion regarding the recyclability of materials and possible projects within the campus. Currently, the Colegio encourages everyone, both students and faculty, to bring their own lunchboxes and water bottles in order to limit the use of single use plastic. In doing so, they will receive a 5-peso discount for their purchase in the school's canteen.

Another step towards a better and greener environment is spearheaded by the Letran Earth Awareness Force (LEAF) with their adviser, Asst. Prof. Alvin T. Dela Peรฑa, RECE, MEng'g, LPT with a Waste Segregation Management Seminar by LEAF Officers, Samantha Carbungco and Francis Bucaling and the LEAF Plantation Grove Presentation by Jerli Villanueva and Hanz Samos. Aside from the indoor seminars, with the combined efforts of the students and faculty of the Collegiate Department and the Auxiliary Services Department, an area for tree planting is cleared by removing overgrown weeds and other yard waste.

A clean and healthy environment starts with every individual and their attitude towards making an effort for a more sustainable future. This also serves as a gentle reminder that no matter how small a task is, it can lead to a bigger impact on the Earth and the people living in it.

In a battle of wits, different programs from the Collegiate Department showed off their knowledge and agility through a game titled, "Colegio Feud", inspired by the game show "Family Feud".

The winners from each game: Psychology, Engineering, and Accountancy are qualified for the last round to determine the winner. One representative is given 25 seconds to list the possible answers to a single question, but they are accepting only the Top 6 answers. The other two representatives are escorted outside to prevent them from hearing the question and answers. After the contestants are finished answering and once the top 6 choices are revealed, it is announced that the winners are to be awarded on September 27, 2024, Friday.

The Mobile Legends Tournament continued with Games 3 and 4, with Team 2 and Team 6 qualifying for the semi-finals. The first semi-final game between Team 1 and Team 5 resulted in Team 1 securing a spot for the finals.

The final game, along with the semifinals which shall determine Team 1's opponent, will be announced depending on the available schedule.

No festivity in the Colegio is complete without a Eucharistic Mass led by The Vice President for Religious Affairs, Rev. Fr. Stephen Mari Laja, O.P. at the College AVR to kickstart a blessed first day of The 2024 Collegiate Academic Week. This year's academic week is to be held on September 23-27, 2024. The students and the faculty of The Collegiate Department were set to participate in a week's worth of activities showing the prowess of knowledge the students of The Colegio have obtained while also showing what it's like to have fun while learning.

As the mass came to an end, the students of the Colegio flocked to the College AVR for The Umalohokan 2024 where the power of the students to elect the 2024 rendition of The Letran College Student Council (LCSC) was set to commence. Awaiting the students was the party list, Deus Patria, carrying their slogan of โ€œPara sa Diyos, Dugong P**a, Isang Patriaโ€ with 3rd Year BS Psychology Student Julia Patrice Carlos running for president.

Despite being incomplete within their ranks, the party list commenced the Miting de Avance head-on and shared their platforms that focused on transparency and student help. Each of the members of the party had a chance to properly introduce themselves and share their specific platforms. After they shared their plans for the department. The floor was opened and the microphone was up for grabs for anyone to ask any concern before voting lines were open throughout the Colegio. Despite the hard-hitting questions that pondered from "What can you do to exceed the past regime?โ€ to โ€œWhere are the other members who were not present during the Miting de Avance?โ€ The Umalohokan was a way to settle any doubts and concerns before the next council of knights was to be officially elected as the next leaders of the LCSC.

The following is the complete list of the party members for the party list Deus Patria:

President: Julia Patrice Carlos
Vice President: Charles Michael Zaratan
Secretary: Alyana Mae Marasigan
Treasurer: Judiross Aplacador
Senator/Rep: Psych and Comm Arts: Rohania De Guzman
Senator/Rep: Eng. and I.T: Karl Cedrix Morales
Senator/Rep: AC, BA, and HM: Gennie Morales

Afterwards, the Commission on Student Election (ComSElec) Chairperson Hanz Samos along with their adviser Asst. Prof. Donna Mae Rodriguez guided the students on how to vote through the website using their Letran accounts.

During the afternoon, the students were engaged with the various online-based competitions prepared by Instr. Aljon Torno and Instr. Sofia Custodio for the Esports competition at the IT Lobby. The Esports tournament marked the first time Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan held a venue for any sort of event with relation to online gaming in the Colegio.

A known fashion game among GenZs, Dress To Impress or DTI, encouraged students to tap in their inner creativity by creating outfits with a specific theme within a time limit. Students and faculty voted for the most deserving of the โ€˜Fashionistaโ€™ title among the contestants.

For a more competitive match, 8 teams fight to the top during the Mobile Legends tournament. The first match started with a fierce battle between Team 1 and Team 8, with Team 1 emerging as the winner. The second bout kept the audience on edge with Team 4 and Team 5โ€™s fight before Team 5โ€™s decisive victory.

The Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) tournament and the continuation of the rest of the competitions will be held on September 27, 2024, Friday.

๐‘ป๐’‚๐’“๐’• ๐‘ช๐’‰๐’๐’„๐’๐’๐’‚๐’•๐’†

We always shared our food with each other: one bite for you, another for me; one sip for you, another for me. Exploring cuisines was also done together, even though most of them were not my cup of tea. It's already enough that you're with me.

Every experience with food, I did it with you.

However, I always sought out sweetness to end every flavorful meal. The milk chocolate immediately melts on my tongue, like the words of decline when you ask me for some. I'm greedy when it comes to it, but you're greedier, asking me for more than I can give. But somehow, it tastes sweeter when it's for you.

Chocolates give me comfort, and so do you.

So when I saw you share the chocolate I gave you with someone else, I didn't know what to do. I should've said that I'll give you every chocolate in the world so I can stay with you.

Now, without you by my side, every chocolate tastes bitter.

The memories haunt me
They lay dormant in the recesses of my mind
They'd always find me
Alone, slumped over and fumbling for a light
Though, their claws and fangs had long been dulled,
I can feel the taunting reminders of their scars
I don't mean to be so haunted, but you've always left my soul mottled
I don't mean to be so haunted, but I still feel chills at remainders of your touch
