LOCAL BUSINESSMAN CALLS ON GOVT TO BUILD MANUFACTURING PLANT FOR MECHANIZED MINING

LOCAL Businessman and Managing Director of Tribal Mining Limited who has been in the Alluvial Mining industry for over 20-years has called on the government to build Manufacturing Plant for mechanized Mining in the Alluvial Mining Sector.

Mr. Justin Parker said this during the Session on Artisanal and Small Mining at the PNG Resources Week, Day 2 Program.

Mr. Parker said the Alluvial Mining Sector needs to be developed because the potential this industry has its unbelievable.

He says if this industry is developed it can raise K3 - K7billion annually that can contribute to the economy.

He says in this industry every toea a Papua New Guinean makes stays back and benefits the citizens and the nation prospers.

He adds that foreginers are taking the opportunity and tapping into this industry.

He further adds that today the gold price is at its highest and so Papua New Guineans can tap into the Artisinal Mining Sector as it is not complex.

Mr. Parker says this industry alone has the value over other commodities like coffee,cocoa,copra amongst others as it can bring in 95 percent of revenue.

OPPOSITION HIGHLIGHTS ISSUES AFFECTING THE COUNTRY

THE Opposition Team today raised grievous concerns regarding issues affecting the nation in terms of increasing Law and Order problems, the issue with fuel crisis and cash flow crisis, shortage of medical drugs and funding to procure drugs, amongst others.

In addressing this issue, the Alternative Prime Minister Reinbo Paita highlighted that there is a major break down in law and order in the country, and calls on the government to Appoint a strong Police Minister to make drastic decision and tougher penalties to be imposed to address the law-and-order issues.

Mr Paita also reiterated, that the government is not dealing with law and order, and it needs to start taking action.

There is an increase in illegal trade of drugs by syndicates that are growing in numbers.

"The issue of drug trade is so untouched and protected, our country is becoming a point for transnational crime and what is the government doing about it.

"We have reports of such, setting up crime factories here, and we can not continue to see this and not do anything about it. The government should have a very hard stance on this or else we will be spectators in our own land," Mr Paita emphasized.

He also added the country is flooded with illegal immigrants that are taking over reserve business from local citizens and he calls on the Prime Minister James Marape to appoint a strong Immigration Minister as well to make strong decision in addressing this issues that is continuing to cripple this nation to its knees.

Meantime, the Opposition is ready to rescue the country from the plight it is in, having mentioned they have drafted their policies to change the course of the country.

OPPOSITION'S SUBSTANTIVE HEARING DATE SET

ORDER 4, Rule 25 of the Court Rules gives the interveners 14-days to serve their statements in response to the substantive case.

The interveners are Attorney General Pila Niningi and Speaker of Parliament Job Pomat.

Supreme Court Presiding Judge Justice Derek Hartshorn this morning in a brief directional hearing truncated that period.

Justice Hartshorn said he would meet the parties halfway and ordered that the interveners have until Thursday 11th of July to file and serve their response and on being served, the Opposition Leader has until Thursday 18th of July (the following week) to file his reply.

The case next returns on Friday 19th of July for further directions.

EHP TO COMMENCE CENSUS STARTING NEXT WEEK

IN the Eastern Highlands Province, enumeration will commence next week Tuesday.

This is according to the Eastern Highlands Provincial Census Coordinator Mr. James Sipa.

Mr. Sipa says only 22 LLGs of the 24 LLGs in the 8 districts of EHP, have completed their 3rd tier training and are waiting for the enumeration to start.

He says of the 24 LLGs, two (2) LLGs are yet to conduct training (Unavi in Lufa District and Yelia LLG in Obura Wonenara District) as they in the remotest part the province that requires airlift.

Mr Sipa says they have received 1,400 tablets for the Enumerators to use.

Remote areas that does not have access to internet, will have to collect the data manually and later transfer to the tablets at the base.

Mr. Sipa says, they are in contact with the Highlands Regional Coordinator- Eastern End to arrange for Australian Choppers to assist with the airlift of enumerators and the census materials.

WESTERN PROVINCE INTO TRAINING OF THEIR ENUMERATORS

IN the Western Province, third tier training for enumerators is nearing completion.

Western Provincial Census Coordinator Mr. Pais Januarius says the trained enumerators will now take on supervisor roles.

Enumeration to start on Monday 1st of July, in the 7 LLGs of the Middle and North Fly Districts.

Mr. Pais says they are now preparing to dispatch enumerators to the more rural LLGs of these two districts including Star Mountains, Lake Murray and Nomad.

He expects to complete the two Districts in a weeks time, however, admitted that the current wet weather conditions may slow down their progress.

Western Province has received tablets for enumerating, however due to power issues, they will have to collect data manually and then input into the tablets.

Mr. Pais says the Western Provincial Government is working to secure fuel drums for chartered flights, to put the enumerators in place before the start of enumerating on July 1st.

EAST NEW BRITAIN PROVINCE COMPLETED MANUAL ENUMERATIONS

EAST New Britain has completed manual enumeration for its 3 Districts of Gazelle, Kokopo and Rabaul.

This from the ENB Provincial Census Coordinator Mr. Gedion Tovai, who explained that the remaining District, Pomio, will be completed off this weekend.

He says the remoteness and geographically challenging terrain of the Pomio District is the cause of the delay in enumeration.

Tovai says Rabaul has completed its enumeration, including the input of data into the tablets with Gazelle and Kokopo teams to complete inputting data from paper to tablet to be completed by either today or tomorrow.

He says once enumeration in the 5 LLGs of Pomio is completed, the team will be uplifted to Kokopo to commence data input with the tablets, as there is better internet coverage in Kokopo.

Mr. Tovai is content with the progress of enumeration and remains confident that all this should be completed in due time and will not overlap the closing date of the scheduled 2024 National Population Census by a day or two.
