Title: Manus Governor Urges Inclusion of Provinces with Sea Boundaries in Fisheries Benefits Sharing
In a response to the Ministerial Statement made by the PNG Minister for Fisheries in the National Parliament on Tuesday, Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin has requested that provinces in Papua New Guinea (PNG) with sea boundaries be granted a fair share of benefits obtained from fisheries and marine resources extracted within their territorial waters.
Governor Benjamins emphasized that the Department of Fisheries annually earns significant revenue from the exploitation of marine resources, particularly tuna, in PNG's vast sea territories however the current distribution of benefits disproportionately favors provinces by which these resources are being harvested
Drawing attention to the disparity, Governor Benjamin passionately appealed to the National Government to allocate a certain percentage of the revenues generated from fisheries to provinces with sea boundaries.
He stressed that, just as provinces with land-based resources receive royalties and other benefits from oil and gas, it is only fair that provinces with sea areas should also be entitled to similar economic advantages.
Governor Benjamins believes that the inclusion of sea-bound provinces in fisheries benefits sharing would contribute immensely to the overall development and well-being of these regions.

Concerns on the continuous power disruptions and blackouts by PNG Power was raised in the recent District Development Authority Meeting
Council President and DDA Board Member representing the Bisakani Soparibeu LLG, Melki Ka-ang said in his queries, that the current power interruptions and outage is seen as a factor towards the huge drop in the performances of Public Servants and the general Public Service Output, adding the Private or Business Sector too is being drastically affected by these power outages
It is understood that the recent rationing of PNG Powers Energy Supply across Los Negros, Lorengau Urban and Lele Masi Bupi Chupeu LLG was due to two of its Generators being faulty
Currently PNG Power is using only one Generator to supply Energy
The Chairman of the District Development Authority Board, Job Pomat says, though PNG Power is a State Owned Entity, it is also a money making entity thus it should be financially capable to settle its own issues
The current power outage has been on going for over three months now
