🌐 PNG to Crack Down on Social Media 📱📋

Big changes are coming for social media in Papua New Guinea! 🇵🇬 The ICT Ministry has announced a bold new policy to promote safety and accountability online. Here’s what’s proposed:

🔒 Mandatory digital ID verification for users 16+
👶 Age restrictions to keep under-16s off platforms
🇵🇬 Social media platforms must register locally and comply with PNG laws
📡 All internet traffic will go through the country’s Internet Exchange Point

Minister Timothy Masiu says the plan reflects Christian values and aims to create a family-friendly digital space. Inspired by Australia’s digital safety efforts, PNG is looking to collaborate on best practices.

📅 Public consultation on the draft policy starts January 2025!
