Bilas Peles or better known as New Ireland Province, a tourism haven. We spent a day driving along the Boluminski Highway and it is so scenic; never losing sight of the white sandy coconut palm coastline all the way to Namatanai. Grateful to visit this part of PNG.

We always love filming in Goroka because of its cool crispy climate, the friendly people, and of course those stunning bilums in the town centre.

Here are a few pics from an unforgettable week producing a promotional video for the Bird of Paradise Hotel in 2021. Sharing stories. Creating value.

A look back to when we carried out the first aerial survey with the Department of Works (Momase) in 2017, covering 16 locations in the Morobe and Madang provinces.

The images and videos were used by the DOW for project submissions that eventually received funding and new bridges installed in key crossings in Usino, Middle Ramu, and Gusap within the last four years.

In 2022, we filmed the completed water project at Bialla Town, West New Britain Province. It was implemented under the World Bank's initiative to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities to people living in the Bialla Town.

The World Bank is actively involved in funding and supporting various water projects in PNG to ensure access to safe and clean water for all. Such initiatives are essential for promoting public health, reducing poverty, and fostering economic development.

A team from the National Department of Health in partnership with Adventist Disaster and Relief Agency recently completed a week-long workshop focused on HIV/STI testing and a new prevention method called the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

The workshop trained stakeholders to carry out HIV testing in their respective communities and ensure that people with high risk behaviours take the PrEP medicine to reduce the risks of them getting infected with HIV.

STI/HIV Senior Medical Officer with NDOH, Dr Elsie Apuahe, explained that the oral PrEP is a medicine that must be prescribed to people who do not yet have HIV and are at risk of getting HIV from s*x or other unsafe activities. She challenged the participants to work together with their communities to do proper testing, data collection and referrals.

β€œLast year alone an estimated 6,500 people were reported with HIV positive cases in PNG, but this year it has gone up to an estimate of 72,000 of HIV positive cases,” Dr Apuahe said.

The workshop under the theme β€˜One voice, equal access, ending HIV for the key population’ proved valuable to the participants, as they will help educate and make communities aware of the preventable methods, and proper clinical advice to reduce the rising number of people getting infected with HIV.

The Children’s Ministry at Lae United Church (LUC) recently commemorated the World Children’s Day for the first time at their local congregation at Malaita.

The LUC children’s ministry marched from the Lae Show Ground to the church before holding special prayer sessions for children in need around the world, citations of bible verses, and ended with presentations from all fellowship groups.

LUC Minister Reverend Terry Nigani and its executive council took the initiative to mark the United Nation’s event with these activities and invited Dr Kamo Dumo to provide insights into major issues faced by children in Papua New Guinea. Dr Dumo, who works at the ANGAU Memorial General Hospital, highlighted poverty, child abuse, children living with HIV and poor education system as the key issues.

"Poverty is the reason for child trafficking, exploitation, child labour and lack of proper access to quality education, and secondly, psychological abuse," she said.
Dr Dumo said that one out of ten children living with health issues die before the age of 10 in rural PNG, and more than one percent of children are infected with HIV.

She thanked the LUC executive council for giving her the opportunity to speak to the parents and children because it was critical to raise awareness and challenge the church to take proactive measures to reduce the risks of innocent children facing such life consequences. β€œSo what must the church do? We must plan ahead before bringing another human being into this world, no proper planning will result in bad outcomes,” Dr Dumo said.

UPNG Morobe Students execute Project Genesis

Morobe Students Union from the University of Papua New Guinea recently delivered medical equipment and awareness to three rural centres in Morobe Province, under its β€˜Project Genesis’ project.

The students visited health centres at Situm, Wantoat and Salamaua and donated medical equipment and rations to the health workers and the villagers.

Health officers were grateful and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the executives of the Morobe student union for identifying their needs and providing the much needed equipment.

Officer in Charge at Situm Health Centre, Sister Benny, saluted the students for their bravery and their heart of service to the children and the people. β€œYou are the government of the day and what you have presented to the people of Situm will benefit them,” Sister Benny said.

After visiting Situm on November 21, the students visited the Wantoat Health Centre the next day to deliver medical supplies. Acting Care Taker, Yalio Mambom, was in tears as he received the presentations. He told the students that they turned patients away due to shortage of drugs, the geographical setting limited them from accessing basic medical needs made worse by poor road conditions.

β€˜This is the first time in history for UPNG students to come deliver this tremendous amount of needs that we have been in desperation for,’ said Mambom.

The students delivered the last lot of essential items to Salamaua Health Centre on November 24.

The Project Genesis was supported by β€˜Team Pluvia’ a netball team comprising of women from Lae and Morobe who participated in the netball championships that took place at UPNG in October. Team Pluvia Captain, Bianca Tuckayo, a Law student, said they initiated a donation drive both in Port Moresby and Lae after they won the UPNG netball tournament.

She said they reached out to donors and sponsors for clothing, detergent, utensils and other basic needs to accompany the medical equipment that were obtained from the Union’s fundraising drives, and business houses that helped support their project.

2023 UPNG Morobe Student Union President, Sherphatiah Jackwin, and Project Genesis Coordinator, Stanley Raphael, made sure the students were well prepared and ensured logistical arrangements were ready in time for the visits to the health centres.

Raepa Music launches first album

Song writer and producer for Raepa Music, Benjamin Raepa, launched his first album β€˜God i Stap Klostu’ on November 11 in Lae.

With his family by his side backed by the Raepa Music band of fellow gospel musicians, they performed 13 compositions in front of more than 400 people at the Duncanson Hall, PNG University of Technology.

Most of the songs were written and inspired by the challenges and struggles growing up while managing his family responsibilities, pursuing his education, and maintaining a deeper relationship with God.

One of the songs sung on the night was the β€˜God Yahweh’ worship song that many know. Benjamin said this special song was written while he was a youth in the music ministry of the Cassowary Road United Church in Lae.

β€œIt has a divine meaning because the lyrics and the melody was composed while I was ministering on stage and God Yahweh presence ascended upon the church,” said Benjamin.

Benjamin’s wife, Beatrice, has always been his support system throughout their journey. Their beautiful story dates to the days they both faced life at its worst but with positive minds and faith in God, they have always embraced the challenges and celebrating every success along the way together.

This album launch was extra special as it marked the commemoration of their wedding anniversary.

Concert goers were impressed with the sound and visual presentation including the live-streaming provided by Benjamin Edwards and his team.

Congratulations Benjamin Raepa Raepa Music πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬
