IFMS restored in ENBP
The government’s accounting system, the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), was restored in East New Britain Province yesterday.
In a brief but significant occasion held at the Treasury office, the two deputy provincial administrators for District and LLG Services and Corporate Services officially re-launched the IFMS after the system went down last year.
Provincial Finance Manager, Steven Tamti, said after the malware attack on the Citrix, which is the gateway to the IFMS, the government decided to go manual, using the COVID-19 Trust Account.
“This is because the COVID-19 Trust Account was the only trust account available at that time, which the Provincial Administrator and the Provincial Finance Manager were signatories to. So we decided to run the system manually, following the malware attack in October last year, until this year.”
Tamti said all government accounts will now be accessed through the IFMS and transactions for this fiscal year must be accounted for.
“And this is why we will be working day and night to put all accounts back online before the close of accounts on December 16.”
DPA for Corporate Services, Marakan Uvano, officially launched the IFMS by clicking on the cheque run for the provincial government operating account, followed by DPA for District and LLG Services, Nicholas Larme, who did likewise for the Raluana LLG in Kokopo District.
