Due to the wet start to the day it’s taking our teams a little bit longer than expected to get everything set up so we are delaying the start of the show by 1 HOUR.

Woohoo! The road is officially open 🥳 huge thank you to all those involved in making this happen by Christmas!

State Highway 25A is now open!

Earlier this morning we opened the fully restored road and new bridge over the slip caused by the severe weather earlier this year.

We'd like to thank you for your patience and support over the past few months, and give an especially big thanks to the many workers onsite and offsite, from on the ground in Coromandel to Napier where many parts of the bridge were prefabricated, for the tremendous effort they've put in to reopen the road well ahead of time.

The area around the new bridge is still a worksite—the speed limit through the site is reduced and we have traffic management in place.

It's not safe to stop on the bridge and sightsee. Don’t stop as you’re approaching the bridge or travelling over the bridge. We know you're keen to see the new bridge and how the land around the bridge has changed following the slip—we've published some great drone footage on our page which shows the new bridge and the land around it in detail: https://www.facebook.com/NZTAWaikatoBoP/videos/331258043130990/

As you can guess, traffic will be heavy over the holidays. We need you to do your bit to keep everyone moving smoothly through the site—don't stop, stick to the speed limit, and travel safely through the site.

The wait is finally over, and we're beyond thrilled to welcome you to Dockside – Whitianga's stunning new waterfront hub! 🌊✨Pop by to check out our new sales office and the cafe/restaurant, Basker.

Last Saturday, with the weather on our side, we kicked off the festive season with our Christmas get-together whilst also celebrating the opening of Dockside, and Hunting & Fishing across the road.

State Highway 25A update: SH25A will reopen next week! Workers are on the home stretch, putting the finishing touches on the bridge before we open the road.

Workers have laid the final seal on the bridge and on the road leading up to the bridge, and they’ve also completed line marking and installed all the barriers and signage. This week workers will complete the final bits and pieces, including finishing the drainage beneath the bridge and tidying the site.

SH25A will open by Wednesday 20 December. The area around the new bridge will still be a worksite when the road opens—the speed limit through the site will be reduced and we'll have traffic management in place.

We know you'll be keen to see the new bridge and how the land around the bridge has changed following the slip—next week we’ll be publishing plenty of video and images, and you’ll be able to see the new bridge and the land around it in detail.

We’ve made the most of the SH25A being closed by doing maintenance on the rest of road, including clearing slips, stabilising slopes, replacing culverts, installing new seal and signs. There’s still work to do over summer, but workers across Coromandel will stop working from 12pm on Friday 22 December 2023 until Sunday night on 7 January 2024 to reduce disruption for you as you travel.

We’ll update you next week as the road opens. Until then, thanks very much for your patience while the amazing workers have restored SH25A for you, and thanks for your interest and support as we’ve updated you each week on our progress.

We are ready to welcome visitors back to beautiful Whitianga, and just in time to see our newest projects - Dockside Retail including our new Sales Office, the neighbouring waterfront Cafe, and Hunting & Fishing Whitianga. All set to open mid-December.
