RadioActive.FM is an alternative radio station broadcasting in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, New Zealand on 88.6FM (formally 89 FM) as well as www.radioactive.fm. From humble beginnings as the student radio station for Victoria University of Wellington Students' Association (VUWSA) in 1977, broadcasting on the AM frequency, in 1982 it became the first radio station in Wellington to commence bro

adcast on the newly-available FM frequency. In 1992 VUWSA decided that Radio Active could not make anymore losses, and sold the station to Radio Active Ltd, in the hope that the station could become financially viable. Radio Active commenced online broadcasting in 1996, being one of the first radio stations to do so. It has a very strong listener ship of around 45000 weekly plus a huge online audience via www.radioactive.fm

With a highly talented pool of volunteer announcers, many of whom have been with the station for over fifteen years, RadioActive is renowned for the wide variety of interesting music that it plays, as attested to by Brian Eno amongst others...

We recently joined our friends at City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi for their 10-year anniversay of Tuatara Open Late. It was a night full of fun, art and community, and a great example of what City Gallery Wellington brings to Pōneke. City Gallery Wellington will be temporarily leaving home on 30 June due to construction work in Te Ngākau Civic Square. It is no doubt they will bring their spirit on the journey with them as they continue to make art thrive throughout the city. You can continue to experience their shows with City Gallery Wellington at Te Papa with Generation X: 50 Artworks from the Chartwell Collection opening 27 July–20 October 2024 and Derek Jarman: Delphinium Days presented at The Dowse Art Museum in partnership with City Gallery Wellington 28 September–26 January 2025, with more to be announced.
