Wonderful care from nzbooklovers.

Alastair Clarke is a New Zealander who returned to the Wairarapa in 2016 from several years in the UK. He grew up in Pukerua Bay, a little north of Wellington, and he believes he was very lucky to have been free to enjoy the wonders of growing up in a world defined by wild hills, bush and the sea. The wonderful designer, Keely O’Shannessy, took this photo of me looking so happy in my work. Happy because she has been amazing helping me get Ugly Hill Press’s first book, Green Rain, looking so beautiful, and off to the printers. So grateful.

Simon Burt, my friend, who also happens to be a good writer, a thoughtful man (rare), a funny person in that wry way, and very kind, is writing a book which I am very happy to be publishing. It's non-fiction, Simon's stories on Route 52, the back road between Masterton and Waipukurau. Now, since Cyclone Gabrielle, in some places more of a goat track, but Simon drags his caravan, camps up for the night, chats with locals, and moves on. Sounds boring. It's not. I don't publish boring. I publish books with attitude. This has gentle attitude. With photos. Due out in 2024 if Simon stops faffing around.

Not that I'm great on social media, but Simon Says I should have a FB page for my publishing business so here we go. Hope I won't forget to keep you up to date.
Since one of the first books I'm publishing is a gorgeous, coffee table format, hard cover book on the independent bookshops of Aotearoa New Zealand, with photographs by Jane Ussher, why don't we kick off with this photo Jane took of me in my former bookshop, The Martinborough Bookshop.
