🐕 ** 𝐃𝐎𝐆 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 ** 🐕

𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - a beginner level agility training class on Tuesday nights at 6pm starting November 7th. Dogs must be 12 months or older and have a good level of control and emotional stability around other excited dogs. Off leash reliability is helpful but if your dog will stay with you and come when called we can work on that. If you are unsure, then come to Dog Essentials first for a while. Requirements when working are a flat collar (not check chain or harness) and lead (not a chain lead or retractable).

𝐒𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 – an introduction to teaching Scent Detection on Tuesday nights at 6pm starting November 7th. Teach your dog to hunt out and indicate on a trained scent for fun or competition. Your dog should not be actively aggressive to dogs or people and not overly anxious around them. Requirements are a flat collar or harness (not check chain) and lead (not a chain lead or retractable).

𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 – a general dog skills session on Wednesday nights at 7pm starting November 15th. The focus is on getting your dog engaging with you for improved response off leash including while distractions are present. This can be from young dogs to any age, but it is not a step by step course on the basics of puppy training, things like not pulling on lead are not specifically covered. Sign up for the online videos in the 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 if that is what you are after.

Cost for each of the above courses is $20 per course, which covers you until the December break. If you join the online 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 course, then the 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 is free for you to join. 👍

If you want to attend or ask if these are right for you, email [email protected] with your name, phone and email plus your dog's breed, name and age.

If you are looking for the 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 course with all the puppy and young dog basics covered by detailed online videos you can get this online: https://warkworthdogtraining.club/training/beginner-training/.

Interested in doing some scent work with your dog? Given there does not seem to be much chance of drier grounds for a while it has been decided to limit agility training for the next couple of months and instead do some more inside work. This Tuesday (the 18th) we will be starting some dogs off on beginning scentwork from 6 until 7pm. If interested email ([email protected]) or message the club. You just need to be a current club member ($40 for the year) and try your best to come along for the next 6 tuesdays as each session will build on the next and coming randomly will make it difficult.

06/06/2023

No training tonight at the club - grounds boggy and weather cold and wet.

25/05/2023

We will start a foundation level training class on Tuesday nights at 6pm starting May 30th. This will be focused on the skills around agility and will train with some agility equipment but will still suit people not wanting to continue in agility training but looking to train with their dog to get a better working relationship and the off leash benefits that come with that.

Having done some puppy or other training class would be useful but not required. It is required however that your dog is not actively aggressive to dogs or people and not overly anxious. We do not want dogs running up to each other (friendly or not) during a training class but sometimes that can happen despite everyone's best efforts. We will use long lines for dogs not yet reliable off leash and if your dog is over stimulated by the environment you may need to work alternative exercises at more of a distance from other dogs until we can get some more calmness and control instilled

Requirements are a flat collar and a harness with a long line if you have one - we have some for loan if required. You need to be a club member and if not one already will need to join for $40 which covers you until the end of 2023.

If unsure drop us a message. Although it will be built around agility skills the foundations will not require jumping or movement that will stress young joints. Young pups (less than 6 months) or those with no training experience at all would be best to enrol in the puppy class before this however to gain some experience. If wanting to attend email [email protected] with your name, phone and email, dog's breed, name and age.

There is a lovely 5 year old male minature poodle looking to be rehomed due to the health circumstances of his owners. He is still pretty high energy but well behaved and his people know he could have a more fulfilled life with a person or family better able to keep up with him. This is a tough call as he is a beloved companion but if you think you can offer him a new home message or email the club with your email details and I will pass it onto the owner.

Agm postponed. Due to the weather and flooding the Agm is postponed 2 weeks. It will now be on Tuesday the 23rd of May at 7:15pm

07/05/2023

AGM tomorrow night. Details on a previous post but reminder we will be having the AGM tomorrow night (Tuesday the 9th) at 7:15pm. Even if the weather is not suitable for training beforehand we will hold the AGM provided we have the numbers.

24/04/2023

There will be no official training sessions this Tuesday (the 25th) due to it being ANZAC day

23/04/2023

The AGM for the club will be held on Tuesday May 9th after training (7:15pm) at the A and P showgrounds. A new committee will be elected and 2 changes to the constitution are proposed - to change the financial year to match the calendar year and increase to the maximum committee size. The changes are detailed on the agenda on the link below.

It will be a quick meeting and Pizza provided so come along to support even if you have no wish to stand for committee. If you do however we really do need to change some officers as have some are not able to continue next year - being president, treasurer or secretary is not a big job for this club so please consider it.

02/04/2023

Members coming to the 7pm Tuesday foundations class should come at 6pm this Tuesday instead if they can make it. We have a committee meeting at 7:15pm and with the darker nights we may look at continuing this at 6pm.

Some great photos from the Warkworth A and P Show. Thanks to Gala and Ray for the cute dog shots.

With it looking like rain tonight it is unlikely much training will happen. The shed will be opened for the 6pm session but unless the weather improves no gear will be put out. We will not hold the 7pm session but if any of those people want to come early to run their dog and do some random training if the weather permits they can come along at 6pm.

19/02/2023

In case you missed it - last call for anyone wanting to do some foundations sports type training. Needed to begin agility but handy for just general dog fun and control. You need to contact us by message or email to come along - not just turn up.

We will start a foundation level training class on Tuesday nights at 7pm starting February 21st. This will be focused on the skills around agility and will train with some agility equipment but will still suit people not wanting to continue in agility training but looking to train with their dog to get a better working relationship and the off leash benefits that come with that.
Having done an off leash or Dog 2.0 course would be useful but not required. It is required however that your dog is not actively aggressive to dogs or people and not overly anxious. Requirements are a flat collar and a harness with a long line if you have one - we have some for loan if required. You need to be a club member and if not one already will need to join for $40 which we will carry over into next year so you there is nothing more to pay to attend classes like this in 2023. We will see how these sessions run and as we go into winter we may combine it into the 6pm class depending on who is attending and the level they are at.
Dogs must be at least 8 months old with some training experience such as our puppy/beginners, off leash or 2.0 classes. If unsure drop us a message. Although it will be built around agility the foundations will not require jumping or movement that will stress young joints. If wanting to attend email [email protected] with your name, phone and email, dog's breed, name and age.

13/02/2023

Training tonight at Warkworth (February 14th) is cancelled due to the wet weather, road issues and the fact most people will not see this post as power is out most places. Tomorrow nights puppy/beginner class will likely be on but probably under cover at the New World Carpark - will let people know on this tomorrow.

No training tonight. Hopefully next week it might start to dry out.

21/12/2022

Hope every enjoys the Christmas break and gets in plenty of fun training with their dogs. We will open the shed for agility work again on Tuesday January 10th. Dog 2.0 sessions will resume on Wednesday the 11th. Puppy training later in the month.

Those who could not attend Dog 2.0 we will decide in the New Year what will be offered (Dog 2.0 or a foundation agility class) and when. With so many weather delays this spring we need to finish off things started last year first.

A few club members will be going along to support the Dog Day Out this weekend. Come down and say hi.

A few club members will be going along to support the Dog Day Out this weekend. Come down and say hi.

The Warkworth and Districts Dog Training Club have been active in Warkworth for 25 years - helping out puppies and older dogs to better fit into the weird world we expect them to fit into.
The club has a small membership of casual dog owners who want some quality time with their dogs but also a few keen members competing in dog sports like agility, tracking, obedience and scent detection competitions.
Come down to Goodall Reserve this Saturday between 10am-2pm and check them out!

22/11/2022

There will be no gear put at this evening (Tuesday) - no surprise given the weather I am sure. The shed will be opened at 6 to tidy up anything remaining from the funday so if anyone is needing to get their dog out of the house they are welcome to come down but not much training will be happening.

19/11/2022

Funday this morning is going ahead. Is a bit soft underfoot at the grounds but should be OK. Rain is forecast forecast for after lunch so hope be OK for the morning. More experienced dogs from 10am and newer dogs who just want to have a go on some agility gear or other activities from 11. BBQ sausages available for $2. See you at the showgrounds.

17/11/2022

We are starting a new Dog 2.0 course next Wednesday (the 23rd) at the Warkworth Showgrounds. This will run on from 6 until 7 and will teach a range of dog training skills to lay a good foundation for any dog sport or just improving off leash control and your relationship.

It will start with the basics of good marker based training and move through putting this into practice with engagement games to improve recall and off leash attention. We will utilise some agility obstacles later in the course but no jumping is required and is suitable for dogs over 6 months of age up to any age. Old dogs can learn new tricks.

We will not be directly training problem type things like dealing with jumping up, chewing, pulling on lead etc and if those are issues look at the beginners/puppy class. Dogs with actual anxiety or aggression issues also should not enroll as these are best dealt with outside a class environment with a one on one trainer.

Dogs will not be required to be off leash while working but will be training towards that goal. It is the best place to start if wanting to do agility but is good for anyone who is willing to put some time in to do some fun training to get better attention from their dog. You should be willing to put in the training time at home and be keen to build your skills in dog training.

You are not required to be a club member to come and the cost is $25 for the 6 weeks - this covers the starter training pack which includes a long rope lead, clicker, treat bag and other goodies. Each week will build on the next so you should expect to attend every class but we may have some postponements if weather insists on it and will be a break in the middle over the Christmas period.
You can email ( [email protected] ) or message any questions or to get on the list and start training.
